I was wondering, how much does the weapon dps on a weapon affect skill dps ? I'd imagine that it would have a direct relationship (20dps on a weapon would increase the dps of a skill by 20dps) but im not sure. If it doesn't have much affect, would it be best to just grab weapons with the most strength on it (in the case of a melee dps).

It depends on if it's a 2 hander or not (however speed itself doesn't play a role)

Oh well in my scenario im talking about my Marauder, using a one handed weapon. Just curious as i have a higher dps weapon with 40 str or a lower dps weapon with 50.

oh now there's a helpful post!
Can you explain? Instead of leading one question into another question, just explain how it is calculated for 1 and 2 handed weapons.

While it could have been worded better, it's basically because nobody knows exactly. Bottom line, you get more damage from abilities with a 2H weapon equipped. You're welcome to do some log parsing and testing, and then post an answer.
Please note that this forum is designed for people to post answers, not questions. If it's not already answered in another post, this early in the game (it's launch day for Pete's sake,) it's because people haven't figured it out yet.

It increase your percentage of armor penetration. Obviously since it's based on a percentage it will have more effect on high armor targets (tanks) than low armor targets.

Those are wrong for dual wield. All in-game results are not following the formula. Would like to see less conjecture, more analysis of actual in-game results.
Unless armor is not considered in mitigation calculations and has a separate unreadable effect on damage.

An earlier post is wrong, 2-handers and 1-handers behave exactly the same, just at the same item level a 2-hander has twice the stats and approx. 50% more DPS.
To answer the question, for auto-attacks 1 dps = 10 strength and for abilities, 1 dps = 5 strength in terms of damage. The formula for ability damage is:
Tooltip damage + (Strength/5 + Weapon DPS) * 1.5
This is before all mitigation, toughness, armor, resists, etc. Auto-attacks are generally less important than abilities, so I say between two weapons, one with higher DPS, the other with higher strength, divide strength by 5 and add it to weapon DPS, and pick whichever has the higher number.

The whole blog post was created from "analysis of actual in-game results" :p
I spent lots of time with my spreadsheets.
If you are able to provide me with exact testing to prove this wrong (player's stats, weapon dps, weapon speed, OH weap speed and dps, your level at time of testing, mob's level, which mob it is), I might be willing to go through the admittedly mind numbing excercise of validating the formulas.
Better yet, if you can post a combat log with no buffs, but the stats that are germane to the discussion, we can analyze them to see how they do or don't work with the formulas posited. Cause I *really* don't want to level a new toon just to prove someone wrong or right :p
