Will we be able to push people back and then stab them? Like in 300? Or push them off a cliff?

I don't think anything has been said about being able to push other players, but I think we would know by now. It sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't see it happening.

Well if there is any type of mind control spells then you can do what people did in WoW and make them jump off a cliff
No... you do not have the proper loincloth selection for that.

AFAIR one of the devs once said that CD works somehow like this - you can push your enemy but rather slowly. I suppose it may be hard to push someone of the cliff when both sides are doing the pushing, unless they make some classes (tanks?) more powerfull in that matter.

CD won't work against allies so this shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think it's possible with this game engine.

Actually I've used Xerxes on and off for years, but more in reference to the psychotic computer in System Shock than any historical significance...

If you want to be able to kick people, play the newest Might and Magic game.

I think you can run through your own sides troops but not an opposing players. This way opposing troops must kill the tank or guard that your healer/dpser has with him. It makes for alot more tactical attacks than just charging and and doing your most mega attacks on the healer like in other games, thus making the point of a tank worthless.

I am in no way against CD on enemy targets, becuase it does indeed add some depth to the game by allowing a few new tactics, and the problems that could be present should be handled easily. CD on friendly targets would have been a bad mistake, but thats not going in, so thats all good and dandy.
However your argument is faulty, as mythics other mmo shows. Going for the healers first was my no means always a good idea, infact often it was pretty bad

It still hasn't gone away.
Back to the topic, Mythic's getting CD done right. Enemy CD is a must, while I'd hate to see friendly CD since that would mean a group of asshats would be able grief people horribly. Concerning pushing, I'm not quite sure how that will be balanced. It'd be pretty stupid if a shaman could push a chosen off a cliff. Perhaps the tanks should get an innate ability that allows them to push passively while moving against enemies, while melee DPS gets a similar but weaker ability. If several players are simultaneously pushing an opponent, the push bonuses should stack with diminishing returns so you don't get insanely powerful pushes.

I dunno but in games i played such a wow, Guild wars City of heros/villains, UO always going for the healers was the always the best option otherwise the dpsers kept on destroying your team mates one after the other as any dps you do on them will simply be healed off.

Leonidas and the 300 spartans is a classic story, but since it's mainly told in history classes, nobody pays attention. However, turn it into a movie with blood, gore and minorities dominating a majority (Persians vs. Spartans) 1NS7AN7 PR0F17 3S! W00T!

They turned it into a movie about that? Interesting, I didn't realize that was just done to fuel the hype.

CD is something that should be in other games, for the stated facts, such as running past the melee classes to take out the healers first, get at the low health, low armor classes, or just running through someone to get away.
Will CD make tanks overpowered? I dont think so. True this means that a group of tanks can form a shield wall and protect the casters while they do high damage out of harm's way, a single tank will not be able to hold someone, since they can simply move around him. This also means that tanks in PVP will have more of a tactical role besides 'just run in and do damage'.
In PVE this means that a small group of tanks can block the path of a mob if a healer or caster ends up pulling agro, and will probably become the most used method of crowd control.
Remember, opposeing players block movement, NOT line of sight. Want to hit the casters and ranged people first? Better have some casters and ranged DPS of your own then. Just like in a real battle!

very true if you dont go for the casters first you just opened up a can of whoop on yourself
Will characters be able to run through each other like on WoW? If not im sure you can slowly push them backwards, they then have to make the decision of jumping off the cliff or dieing to 10 people.
I just had to jump on the bandwagon.
"They look thirsty!!"
"Well let's give them something to drink!"

Collision Detection between players of two different factions will be included. There isn't any pushing, as far as I know. You can still pass through allies, however.

Last I checked, you can use the sprinting ability and sacrifice some energy to ram and push back big tanks blocking your way...................don't remember where they said this though.

That really would be an interesting game mechanic to be able to sprint at an an enemy and push them back, hope its included at release.

I wonder if Mythic will include a limited physics engine for things like this. Its a stretch, but if they pull it off then get ready for the best mmo ever made.

I dunno, if I was playing my Chosen as a tank, I wouldn't want to be be 'pushed out of the way' by just anyone, other than perhaps by another tank.

best mental image about this is the fact you could actually have a "clash" before a battle, with each side sprinting into each at the last second hoping their momentum will drive the enemy back.
if one char has more overall momentum (speedxforce i believe with force being worked out in game terms as size/strength or what ever) they knock the other char down, if they are overall equal (ish) then its a stalemate. would make picking out your initial target more interesting than just running up and hitting em : \

Yes but look at the black orc, and keep in mind that swinging a 2 handed weapon usually causes your target to move...

If that is true then i suppose when getting sprinted on by a black orc or chosen the enemy will be trampled to death, unless he is a tank himself.

If my mind doesn't tricks me, I heard Paul speaking about skills that push enemies back, I think he showed an animation as well, making the Orcs fly backwards. I also think I saw a vid with a Hammerer smashing an Orc aside a couple feet backwards with his hammer. So I think there are some skills that can 'remove' enemies out of the way.

Momentum is equal to mass multiplied by the velocity of an object. Basic momentum calculations would cause lag for computers, never mind your stalemate ideas. Also. Poor goblins.

Any idea that requires me spending £700 on graphics cards and an extra couple hundred for a physics card is a big no no.
Also, pushing enemies back would be horribly exploitable, think 1v1 combat with one opponent just repeatedly using the "shield bash" or whatever skill to keep moving his opponent backwards, disrupting skills etc at the same time, definitely not a good idea.

I can confirm the video showing knock back effects. I suppose if you were standing near a cliff and someone performed whatever it was in the video, you could potentially fly of the edge. And while I've never played a class able to torture other players in this way, I fully support its implementation. Players will eventually learn to fight with their backs against a wall or something. I personally love the added dynamic that collision brings to a game.

They've said that there will not be clipping for your players on your side. Only for RvR/PvP.
