Picked up Salvaging at Rank 20

Oh what a bad idea that was. How the hell do I level it?

I've been back to T1 and killed literally 100's of mobs and got 1 Ruined Equipment and one green item, and neither gave a skill up. Only + point was, the Kill Collector in T1 did give my a nice XP bonus for my efforts.

For comparison, if I had picked up scavaging, I could go to T1, kill 5 mobs, and gain 5 skill levels. I can accept it maybe supposed to be a harder skill to raise, but having to kill 100s and 100s of mobs for a single skill level is too much.

This needs fixing.

Yeah same thing happened to me, I've picked it up when I was like level 15 and now I can't level my skill. Anyone found an easier way to do it than to come back to T1 and hunt for shattered equipment? :|

Buy the cheapest greens from the renown merchat. Id wait with leveling up crafting skills till after a patch comes. Right now, salvaging is pretty messed up.

Your best bet is to find a renown agent and buy the cheapest green you can. I had salvaging at the earliest I could get it and I still needed to do this because I didn't find enough greens along the way to keep salvaging leveled where it needed to be in order to salvage items I was finding at my character level.

Exactly. You cannot salvage uncommon+ RR gear of any level that I know of. I've tried.

I picked up salvaging right off the bat, salvaged EVERY item i came across as I gained ranks and I quickly outleveled my profession and became too low a level to salvage the item drops at my rank.

So even if you picked up salvaging from the start, you're still screwed. I am currently level 13. I once salvaged 10 items in a row and all of them failed and gave no points. :(

Same boat. I started around 17. I went to another realm and essentially started over at chapter 3 with quests and pqs and got a fair return on salvagable items for the time I spent (not just pharming mobs). Plus I filled in more chapter influence, got some xp from the quests, and enjoyed a change of scenery. Can't say I've caught up to my level of drops, but I closed the gap quite a bit and don't feel like the day (or two) was wasted.

I didnt have to go back or camp or buy anything, just take your time leveling and do a PQ a few times. Now at level 20 my Salvaging is at around 80 with no problems at all.

Oh i did. I have over 20 first place finishes for PQs. I did all the PQs for chapters 1-7 on greenskins and 5-7 on chaos.

Its luck.

Last night I bought 13.5 silver axes off a chaos vendor and salvaged them. The first 10 I got 2 points. I bought 10 more and got 9 points. Now i have a skill of around 27 or so, back in the game. But the point here is that given the failure rate of salvaging, and given that you can get +500 points for contributing to a PQ and finished last place with no loot, and considering that you can lose greed rolls in random PuGs, you can end up at rank 15 and have a 10 salvaging skill.

You can't salvage belts or accessories, or green items with only one stat.

Look for greens with 2 stats--the Tier 1 renown gloves, for example. Buy those and salvage them to level salvaging and to get enough shards to get Talisman up to 25.

true story, this is what i did.. bought like 40 pairs of gloves and just salvaged them all.

I PvP level too much to do this. I have found myself at the renown merchant at the end of each level hurdle (i.e. close to 25, 50, and now 75) purchasing and breaking down gear to get enough fragments to get to the next round of levelling. I'm broke but I do have my mount and have nothing else that I really need to spend gold on at this point so it's all good.

Thanks to all the suggestions. In the end I did just as suggested. I went to T1 and bought about 64 pvp gloves @ ~9s each (so around 6g). This allowed me to power level salvaging up to around 50, after which I was able to salvage rank 11 gear then rank 17 gear, and at ~65 I can salvage rank 21 gear (which is what's dropping around where I am).

This gave me enough materials to power level Talisman making up to rank 30. But now I need rank 25 materials and the stuff I am getting from rank 21 armour drops is rank 50-75-100. So I will probably have find the lowest priced renown gear that salvages into rank 25 materials and go spend a bunch of gold power-level'ing from 25-50. By then ofc I will be of sufficient level that I will be getting 75+ mats, and will have to do the same from 60-75 :o

But at least I got going, and I can make +3 willpower talismans oooh

Not entirely true. Just last night I salvaged an item that only had intelligence on it - ie: only one stat.

I went to the lvl 1 reknown trainer in Ekrund, unchecked the usable items box, and saw NO green items in his inventory Where would I go to get these cheap greens to salvage?

In War Camps, there are two special RvR merchandise vendors. One sells weapons, the other, armor. What I don't know are where the War Camps are in each area. I ran my SoK all the way through the first half of Tier 2 and didn't see a single one.

AFAIK, from T2 and up, the RvR gear merchants are only found in keeps your side owns.

Now this poses me a little problem. I am in T3 now, however I am stuck at 31 talisman making as I need Rank 25 materials, so I need some lower level RvR gear to salvage for the mats. But ofc I will be chickenified if I go to a T2 keep.

I wonder if I will be able to buy stuff from the vendor even when I am a chicken.

Keeps are the castles in the RvR areas.
You can find all the renown gear merchants in the guild tavern (Sigmar's Hammer) when your city gets rank 2.
