Ruined/Shattered Equipment

I have a capable Cultivator and Apoc and I was thinking of taking Salv/Talisman making on an Alt. So, I kept all ruined and Shattered equipment and mailed them all to that alt (now have around 30) and a few random blue/green items.

* Can you skill up from ruined/shattered equipment?
* Does ruined/shattered equipment have a level? i.e assuming you can skill up, can you still skill up from it still when you have 50 Salvage?

Essentially, I was trying to work out whether to go straight for the cheap renown gear to salvage and then save this equipment for when you hit a "hump" trying to get those skill ups. Any insight on the above would be great.

You can skill up from the broken equipment, but it does have a level. The only way to 'tell' what level it is, is by being lower level than it and thus being told you can't salvage it. I imagine the name (ruined/shattered/sundered) probably tells you what skill level it is, but I'm not sure.

You can level your Salv with ruined and shattered equip, but you wont be able to level your talis. For that you need fragments and for fragments you need to salvage real gear.

Yeah sitting at around 50 for each right now.
oh there is a very simple method of working out what level for Shattered, Ruined and Sundered.

So a search at the Auctioneer for level 25-25 crafting, You will see Ruined equipment show. Similarly a search on level 50-50 you will see sundered equipement.

If you want to test and you have these fragments, you can put them in the auctioneer at a ridiculous price, do the test and then cancel the auction.

This is something that I expect to work later on the other types that I don't yet know.
