While I dont agree with your tone and alarmism, it could be revised a bit.

One obvious suggestion is to make fragments loot drops. Another is to decrease the salvage failure rate.

I can't stand the failure rate on magical salvaging. It needs to be decreased big time...

And as far as getting the fragments. How about buying the lowest level RR green gloves and salvaging them. Its the consensus that theres no better way at the moment but sinking lots of money into it at earliest stages.

go to t1 zone to the rewnown merchat and buy item tha folows the rule skill on it own or skil with a career or a race and green con do not buy naything with just race or career on it or white and make sure its lvl 1-10 and it shold produce t1 fragemnts at high % .

I leveled my talisman making from 0-40 by buying those 3.5silver boots in the tier 1 renown merchant. I spent 4g overall, including the box, curios, and essences.

Just be sure to uncheck the filter so you can see all the items. The item is a pair of green boots that costs 3.5s and it has +7 initiative on it, I think. The other boots next to it are 8silvers.

I was trying to do just this BUT, when I salvage the renown gear I'm only getting magical essences..??? WTF?

How do you salvage for fragments???

You do realise that the essences make up fragments don't you?

Read the tool tip on them, right click the stack and carry on playing

Echos make up Whispers make up Essences yes... but fragments are something else no?

I don't believe essences will give you fragments. The leftover essences create single magical essences used in making talismans. I've only seen fragments come from salvaging magical gear green or higher.

Thank god i thought i was the only one thinking the rate of getting fragments is way to low.
luckily i read about buying renown gear to get fragments so i will be trying that when i get home.

I bought the boots for 3s and some copper when I was destruction. Just unclick the filter.
I don't know if they still have it, maybe they patched it already. I just rerolled to Order two days ago. I can't find anything that I can salvage that is less than 8s.

I'm in the same boat. The cheapest thing I can find to salvage are the renown gloves for 7s and change.

I don't see where you are finding 3s boots.

noobs,

buy cheap rr gear, 5s to 8s max per item. Salvge them for skill ups, currently i get like 100% fragments from these items, then I put stacks of 20 fragments on the AH at 6g per stack for other noobs to buy. I have a fortune in gold, and easily levelled up my TM to 100+.

Problem is, there is no use for the talismans at the moment, gear has no slots, guildies not interested. I only do TM to level up my skill, but there is money to be made from salvaging.

I can see this craft being very much like the enchanting craft of wow. No one's gonna want the low level talisimins, they'll all want the high level stuff, religating the would be TM to either AH it cheap, give it away, or just vendor untill they're high end.

As it is, in my guild we have one offical TM (the GL) and a few alts do it as a side hobby but are signifigantly lower at it than the GL. This mainly tends to werk cause any green thats not BoP that the guild gets that we don't need goes to him.

Stop trying to salvage higher level items, and salvage items you've been able to salvage for 30 crafting levels. You won't fail, and you'll get levels almost every time. Failure rate is directly proportional to the you skill level versus the item you are trying to salvage. Failure = no, or very infrequent levels.

So I am rank 22, my renown is 16 and my magical salvaging is in the upper 60's but my talisman making is at 14....why is it only at 14???? Because i can NOT get any low lvl fragments to make talismans!!

So, how do you get fragments?? I went to the AH and they are selling 40s per lvl 1 fragment....

What utter garbage....a great and wonderfully borked crafting system!!

Because the profession sucks in my opinion. There is so few drops of the pieces you need, it's just not worth it. Go with scavenging and make all your money back and more.

just keep track of your skill,

for example i know that my salvage skill will work fine with lv25 items. i know that because i dont get any more skillpoints from salvaging these items AND it almost never ends with failed attempts (read your log if you never saw this message..)

so now i know lv25 items work for sure. so i try lv27 items (maybe lv28-29 ) to level my skill. it will not work on EVERY attempt but you get skillpoints almost every time if it succeeds.

now, if i just need fragments for talisman making i know that i can salvage lv25 items for fragments since it will most likely succeed. if i'm out of items i go to renown gear merchant and buy items for the appropriate level (lv25 in this case).

also for those people who are saying i only get essences but no fragments:
if you dont get any fragments but those echoes/whispers then the attempt to salvage an item failed (again, try reading your chatlog :) )

The problem is that the system is not based on definite numbers. A succesful salvage (essence, fragment and all that) will not always yield a skill point, even if the item is of a suitable level. A low-level salvager can luck out and succesfully salvage and item too high for his skill level. As an example, I salvaged two level 11 items yesterday. One was salvaged succesfully, but gave no skill point. The other failed. That could mean anything. I still have no idea what level items are suitable for my level, and I don't have enough greens that I can continually experiment with what level green I should be salvaging.

It would be an enormous help if there was a salvaging level limit on magic items in the same way that seeds and spores are limited by your Cultivation level. Salvaging, and in turn, Talisman Making, is expensive enough as it is, and very dependent on all the other trade skills. We need butchers to help cultivators grow their plants so they can make Goldweeds for the apothecaries (who also need butcher items), who can in turn create Gold Essences, and then we also need the scavengers' Curios for better results. That's a dependency on every other gathering and trade skill in the game, besides our own dependance on salvaging!

of course you wont get a skillpoint everytime, and maybe you can get skillpoints with low level items or even fail to salvage low level items, but thats was not the point i was making..

Go to Altdorf- find the Steam Tank and do the associated PQ. You can complete it by yourself [in under 2 minutes] though as many as 3 can do it together and all get loot bags, and it contains a lvl 11 green. This breaks down into a Lvl 1 fragment IIRC

with the latest patch you can now buy level 1 fragments off crafting merchants. these will easily get you to level 35-40 talisman making.

It's probably because you're trying to salvage level 22ish item's with salvaging skill in the upper 60s. Try to think straight and get info on what you're talking about before complaining. The golden rule is that if you want a good success rate NEVER salvage items that are above level (your salvage level divided by 5).
So to salvage a level 22 item you need salvaging skill level 110.
