When I first read about the talisman system, I was amazed. Then I found out about purples, with their eternal timer.
I'm only a lowbie, not a level 40. But what prevents the TM market from disintegrating around itself as people only want the permanent purple gems? To me, it feels that the average Joe will not settle with 5day timers on blues, and the only market in the game will be for level 40 perminant talismans.
Why couldn't they make something fun like make the strongest talismans always have timers... permanency requires sacrificing power.
I'm reminded greatly of WoW's broken enchanting market where you are either "375 looking to enchant for tips," or "<365 please let me skill up with your mats. Alms for the poor accepted"

uhm blues are 2weeks arn't they? Green are 5days. And this is in ingame time. It doesn't expire when you are logged out.
All they have to do is to make blues be equal or even better statswise, and just make them much much cheaper to make.

For the most part there will always be an item upgrade to be made. This shouldn't be an issue for a very long time. Even still there will always be a supply and demand issue on talismans so settling with blues instead of purple will happen failry oftem im sure.
This won't happen because why would someone spend 50g on a purple talisman when a 5g blue talisman will last them until they upgrade their armor peice (which you do often enough even at rank 40).

Even if somebody buys a permanent talisman, they won't have that piece of equipment forever. They'll upgrade and need a new talisman.
Item permanency has never been a problem for craft skills in other games.
Oh and if you were planning to make money crafting, forget it. Craft skills in MMOs only look like sources of income. They aren't, especially if you factor the cost of raising your skill to master.

The rarity. On a normal success, you get a rarity talisman lower than that of the item disenchanted. Only on a critical success do you get an equal rarity fragment. So unless they start selling mythic items, you'll never get an epic talisman except with a critical success on disenchanting an epic item.
That being said, since money is so easy to come by and so useless, it is entirely possible for the rich and bored to buy tons of gear and just go crazy blowing it up. But if someone was to do that, the number of talismans they would be making would change the market drastically with or without permanancy timers

Blues in my experience albeit a limited one keep for 5 days and greens are 2 days and white are 8 hours.

A good high Skill purple talisman will be worth a huge amount of gold, probably going into 3 figures. People will change their gear all the time, even at 40.
The way talisman making is at the moment, white talismans are worthless in the AH and to vendors and greens are unlikely to sell.
90% of the money will come from blue and purple talisman making

There's always going to be a point where players aren't getting new gear very often. Once you're at the top of the Reknown ladder and attacked the enemy city a couple times, most of your gear is going to be set for a while. Perma-talismans could kill our profession in the long run. It's just going to take a fairly long time to get to that point.
I recommend that they give Purples an 8 day timer. Actually, I think they should drop Blues to 4 days while they're at it. 96 gameplay hours is a long time.

Yeah, either a timer on purple, or perhaps make it weaker. One of the things I LOVE about this game is how so many things are balanced. You can't just min/max one thing and expect it to win **cough** resiliance **cough cough**.
I'd love it if shorter lived items were given a higher ceiling on the stats or something.

I sell green talismans every day. Never hurts to have a few in your bag to get that item that would be an upgrade if only you had xxx talisman.

Gems and Enchants in WoW are the equivalent to Talismans here, and JC/Ench are the two most profitable tradeskills there. Just because some items are permanent doesn't mean the skill is marginalized. People upgrade gear, level alts, etc. Even *if* permanent fragments were common, just make those. You will never have a solid market as a leveling tradeskiller. Anything you can do, a higher level character can do better.

Exactly. I made a TON of money on my JC character... and they were all Permanent. I expect to make even more on my TM since the market will stay constantly fresh.

Plus the fact that most people will drop it, heh.
Without resorting to chain DEing renown gear, by the time I hit R15 on my Rune Priest, my wife's R15 character was at 72 Apothecary. I was at 6, yes, SIX TM. I plan on keeping it regardless, but man that was an eye opener.
(To give some indication of the kind of glutton for bad tradeskilling I am, my rogue has had, at one point or another, 375 Mining, Herbalism, Skinning, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, and Leatherworking)
