View Full Version : Salvaging is broken

The only way I go my skill up is by blowing half of my money on Tier 1 Renown items. I'm Rank 15, I got to skill level 25 today, and I can't salvage a single one of the items I get from doing normal things in Tier 2. At this rate, I'll have to abandon salvaging if I want a mount at level 20.
Even with all the magical essence and fragments that I got, the only talismans I could make were sh*tty. +2 to one stat is nothing, especially when I can get more bonuses from an item that doesn't have a talisman slot. Right now, not a single piece of armor I'm wearing even has a damn talisman slot.
Fix this system by removing the failure rate, give more/all items talisman slots, and let me make talismans that I actually notice. If not, everyone is going to do scavenging or cultivating or some crap.
EDIT: more proof that Mythic doesn't give a sh*t about salvaging/talisman making. When you try to put in a magical essence or fragment that's too high for your level, the message you get reads, "your APOTHECARY skill is too low to use that item." They don't even care enough to label the damn error messages correctly.
DOUBLE EDIT: Mark Jacobs didn't want a crafting system that was based around grinding. Unfortunately, he failed.

Well, the reality is that salvaging and TM were the last two to make it in prior to launch, and to be quite honest, it shows.
Mythic will address this, no doubt, but it's a matter of when.

I keep getting "failure" messages when salvaging, but it salvages the item anyway. I assume this is like WoW's enchanting where you enchant an item but don't always get a skill-up.
Unfortunately, I've ranked up beyond the point where I have enough magical salvaging skill for the drops I'm getting, and so now I have a bank full of items I can't salvage, and no items that supposedly I'm supposed to skill up on.

Yep you lvl'd to fast and had bad luck on green item drops.. go back and grind lowbie areas for items to break or ask t1 friends to send you stuff. I had to do that not a big deal. How did it work in WoW when decided late to begin enchanting profession..
oh yeah that's right you had to buy low lvl stuff to break or go grind lowbie areas.

the failure message when salvaging means that you didn't get a fragment from it. you still destroy the item and you gets essenses.

I don't know how you managed to fail like this. I've salvaged everything I've come across while leveling, R18 now. Random drops, PQ items, renown gear. I've bought nothing specifically to salvage, and I'm at 45 now without any effort to get there. Currently at almost 19 gold. I just use the stuff I get to level TM.

People around here have a serious lack of common sense, intellect, imagination or anything resembling any of these. Salvaging isn't broken, it just requires you to do something more than mindlessly sit there hammering one button.
I've just reached tier 4, with salvaging skill around 160, talisman making around 140. How many AH items have I bought for it? None. How much low level area grinding have I done? None. I just invested a little time early on to do the quests in multiple racial pairings instead of trying to level up through the tiers as fast as possible. My failure rate? Almost zero most of the time. The only time I get a moderate (perhaps 40%) failure rate is when the ranks of the items I'm salvaging starts yielding fragments another 25 levels up.
Stop expecting the developers to do all your work for you and put some thought and effort in yourselves.

i do not know all the gripes and complaints of the nothing to salvage issue but i would like to see them label the levels on the items to salvage. At level 3 i recieved a sundered item there is no visible marking on the item when you mouse over it that tells you it requires salvaging level 25 in order to salvage it. As far as i have seen all the other crafts have this so how about a little love to salvaging. Its a poor mans disenchant and it can be frustrating at times, i wont even get started on the talismans and the fact that i cant dye half my gear most of the time.

Obviously salvaging was made for people to level it up alongside their character.
While I do understand some of the frustration, pointing fingers at Mythic in this case is not really fair.
In all mmorpg crafting professions I've encountered, if you pick a profession later in the game when you're kinda high level, you have to grind low lvl zones to level up your profession.
If you're so concerned about your mount money, I would suggest you find somewhere to grind mobs that drop the appropriate level of items that you can then salvage and level up on.
Easiest way would be grinding renown items, though.

So what's your sensual, intellectual, imaginative way to smash stuff for essences? Because I've smashed about 40-50 items and I'm still rank 9 in my salvaging. Is there some special way to left click on the item? Or do you know of some other way that doesn't involve on clicking on an item?

Seriously. Now they nerfed the gold essence thing, so making talismans is 100% cookie cutter now.
Please please PLEASE stop whining about stuff that works fine. At some point Mythic might listen to you and nerf it, which will just make the game less challenging and make all crafting products accessible to everybody who doesnt have a clue about what they're doing.

But it's not fine. I have over a dozen green items in my bank that I should be able to salvage, but cant. Yes, my skill is high enough, and yes, it's a green/blue item.
If almost every goddam mob I kill has a freakin seed on it, well then every "magical" item should be salvagable.
Multiple failures salvaging stuff way below my skill level (3 in a row one time) is just lame. So your skill level affects nothing but what you can salvage, instead of also affecting the success rate.. like anyone who's ever played an MMO would expect. (If it aint broke...)
The whole time limit thing on the weaker talisman's = no revenue at the beginning (who buys them.. seriously) not to mention +2 of any stat isnt worth diddly.
Very far from "fine".

I don't see what the big deal here is. I'm a level 13 Sorc and my Salvaging is already up to rank 34. The actualy talisman making is the money sink (or was) because you need(ed) fragments and the only way to have any chance to get them was to keep getting renown gear and scrapping it. The newest update made it waaaaay easier at lower levels to gain rank in salvaging with the broken equipment at the vendors. Conveniently enough they added fragments to the merchants too, which means you can do early talisman making without bothering to salvage. I'm not bitter that they made it easier for lower level salvagers/talisman makersm jsut wish it would've come a week earlier.
I agree that no one is going to buy the 8h weak talismans. Right now the economy seems a bit odd. Nothing is priced anywhere near a logical price in the AH. Nowhere is this more evident that in the talisman market. You can't expect to turn any sort of profit on gray talismans, they are a temp boost and typically small, not to mention the cost you put into them in materials and time. I'm guessing the real money wil come in when the longer durations and higher effects start showing up. I've already managed a decent 5d talisman, unfortunately people would rather spend 10 silver on a stack of 5 potions than 5 silver on a single talisman that will boost their HP for a week.

Magical Salvaging is like Enchanting in WOW (in both function and leveling). It's really something you should powerlevel later on.
I picked it up after I hit 40 with a ton of gold, and got it to 200 in half a day. Prior I had scavenging and made some good buck on the auction while I was leveling. In fact, the money I made more than covered the cost of all the renown gear I needed, and I also saved some curios/gold dust to level TM easier. The way I play, I've had no problems with the system.
If you want talismans for your gear while leveling, just buy it off the auction. They should be dirt cheap from all the high levels powerleveling their skills. I'm even vendoring 9-10 wounds talismans since there's so much on the auction (just mine alone), I can't even sell them all.
Edit: I really mean Salvaging/TM as a pair. Just having salvaging without TM is meaningless. Every TM I know also has salvaging, so if we want frags/essence, we can get it ourselves.
I really think salvaging is broken right now. I am 97 skill and I just bought a dozen green level 17 items off the AH to try and get to 100 so I can start salvaging a boatload of level 23-27 gear I have in the bank. 12 items, 6 failures, 6 successes and no point gain. Nothing. Just 10 minutes waiting for the mail server and gold down the drain.
