Bat Wing?

So I randomly looted a grey "Bat Wing" today, which is bound to me, and won't sell to a merchant. The flavor text on the item says "May be of interest to someone versed in Apothecary" - yet it won't go into any slot for potion making.

Any guesses as to what this is for?

Have you tried right-clicking it? I have found some items like you describe (bound on pick-up and cant be vendored) and right-clicking on them gave me a new ToK entry.

This is a turn-in item for a tome unlock.

If you are Order take it to Felde Castle (the Order camp in the south of Troll Country (NOT the warcamp)) and look for a bright wizard inside. I forget his name. If you have the item in your bag and click on him, you'll get a tome unlock ("At least it's not guano" or something like that) and a title ("Echo Hunter").

There was a point when i was in tier 1 when i had a bunch of these random BOP items in my bag.

Thinking it was junk i got rid of them all.

Imagine my distress when i completed this bat thing and some random chaos troll drop that they were used for tome unlocks.

I cried myself to sleep.

On a different note.
I did a quest at wolfenburg that i found during the PQ there.
I didnt bother reading the quest details because i was ina rush to get back to the PQ.
But the reward were "strange warts" they arent binded or anything.
Seems a bit weird for a reward. Is it a sort of joke, or is it used for something?

I just found "Troll Droppings" today, which appears to be for the same kind of tome unlock. Neat...but....ewwww

If you have more than one bat wing in your bags, the unlock doesn't work; destroy all but one and it will (I learned this the hard way!).
