View Full Version : Q from a scavenger: Watering Cans
I've been searching on here, google and other war sites but just haven't been able to find good info on watering cans.
I'm always picking these up with scavenging and wanted to know:
- Are they're consumed on use when cultivating? (Would it be a waste to send a stack of 20 to a guildie)
- How does the quality of the can affect the resuts? (For example, I scavenged http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=184957 earlier today - I'm debating if it's worth holding onto for something special)
- How many of these will a cultivator go through over the span of a few days?

You use up each watering can, so no a stack of 20 wouldn't be a waste. I generally only use watering can's on green seeds. But when I have extra cans I use them on all the seeds. So I do and don't go through them quickly :-).
I have yet to discover a difference in quality of can, but it seems to me more likely to get crits and special events with uncommon cans.

I've gotten my cultivating skill over 100 now, and since my friend is a scavenger i get my fair share of cultivating/apothecary ingredients from him.
Because of that, I have been leveling quite quickly, but I have mostly used watering cans for grinding because that's what I get the most of from him.
From my experience, white watering cans rarely do anything else than cut down the time it takes to grow a seed/spore, so I think anyone you send those to would be quite happy to cut down their time for each seed. What you could do, however, is to save the green ones if you want some potions for yourself. With scavenging, you should be able to get seeds that provide the stats you want, so if you then give a bunch of seeds, watering cans and other stuff to a cultivator/apothecary, you should be able to get some nice potions.

I maxxed last week. Watering cans, soil and fertilizer can greatly increase the chance of a "special moment." That's the kind of critical success that yields a dye, resin and/or a special new hybrid seed type.

this hybrid seed seems like the type of thing you want to return a yield seed back, so you can keep using it. I have a question now. Once you have a good seed you want to re-use, say a level 75 seed, do you need level 75 water, soil and nutrients for success? Or say can I throw in like 25 (soild) 75 (water) 1 (nutrient) and still have a decent chance because i used the 75 skill water can. Do all the additives have to be equal level?

i've never used anythign but level 1 soil water and nutrient on all of my seeds and i've gotten maybe 15 pigments and a butt-ton of seeds back(which sucks when your cultivating to get the seeds out of your inventory.) I find spore will more than likely give you your seeds back. oh and im around 190 cultivating

When growing a seed, you need not add any soil, water or nutrient, but in doing so you will increase the chance to:
#1. not get a critical failure.
#2. get a hybrid seed or the same seed returned when harvesting.
#3. get multiple returns from a single harvest.
#4. get pigments/fixers/resins.
I am only 150ish cultivating on my rank 3 alt, but I farmed a good amount of 100/125 Seeds, Soil and Water with my scavenger and kept all the stuff of green or better quality. Using these I tend to get resins, fixers, and pigments quite often, in addition to getting on average about 6 or so uses out of a single seed.
If I were you I would keep only green or better quality and try to sell them on the AH or give them to a guildy.
Each time you grow a seed into a plant, you can use 1 of each soil, watering can, and nutrient. occasionally the nutrient is returned, but never the water or soil. So to answer your question a cultivator will go through them very very fast. Obviously most people will tend not to use higher quality cans for leveling, but it really depends on your income... if you farm alot, then you loot alot.
