View Full Version : What's your weapon style?

So far we've only seen Chosen with two-handed weapon or a one-handed weapon and a shield. But let's pretend the choices are a little more varied than that. What weapon style would you like to have for your Chosen?

I'm a bit sick of playing a duel wielding class since I had two Rogues in WoW, so I'm looking forward to using a two hander.

One handed weapon with a shield, and there'd better be brutal looking morning stars to use.

Actually Tzeentch loves magic.
I won't play a Chosen, but as always my answer is "Da BIGGEST weapon".

As I said in my own thread on Chosen weaponry, I'll either go with two-handed maces or a pickaxe and shield. Lots of people think shields are lame, but I personally think that a good shield can be pretty imposing-looking.

Usually go for 2 handed swords but idk in this game a sword and shield does sound nice to smash someone in the face with a chosen shield (spike and all) hmmm I'll wait and see.

Dual wielding axes or dual wielding axe and mace. But only if the game mechanics doesn't gimp it. 2-handers and 1h+shield usually works out better from a gameplay POV.

From what I saw in the description page of the chosen, it showed an advance Chosen armed with a greatsword and a shield. Hopefully, it will go past the concept page and become a vialble spec for the tank classes in the game.

Unless you count a puny Imperial man's greatsword, they can not duel wield two-handed weapons.

Vote isn't up there, which is: it depends what type I want to create from that class... If I want a heavy hitter - I'd go with 2-hander, I want a guard type - I'd go with s/s, if I want a more multiple attack inclined tank - I'd go with dual wield... So, it all depends on what type of tank I'm looking to create

It is a longsword, thus held with one hand, not a claymore or a great sword.
You also have to keep in mind that the Chosen is about 8 feet tall and as strong as an orc, therefore the proprtion of his weapon sizes compared to a normal human's are bigger.

Well..... at least its more intimidating than the longswords in WOW.
That is because pixies don't exist in Warhammer........they all died a long time ago. The only reason haflings still exist is because the Empire protects them highly to make sure their marvelous cooking recipes don't die out.
So yeah, the setting of Warhammer is a lot more mature.......so no need to worry about over-gaudy weapons sparkles with pixie dust.

Hmm... How do I go about saying this? Ah well, basically I just don't want to switch from my asskicking weapon to my tanking weapon like WOW, there I said it. If I need to tank I shouldn't have to put away my claymore, I wanna keep my claymore out and take my shield out of my inventory and in my off hand slot. I'm willing to take an attack power penalty for it since I'm not using both hands to swing the blade (hey it worked in Diablo 2).

I really like that idea. It'd save having to carry different weapons in your inventory, and it wouldn't be hard to balance either if they just lowered the players attack power like you suggested.

Seriously though, two-handed pick or flail would be my weapon of choice if they are available. Unlike with a sword, a pick is meant to piece plate or mail without really changing styles or having to aim for the joints. As for flails (at least Warhammer flails) THEIR FREAKING MEAT HOOKS ON CHAINS! If they are animated properly they would kick so muck *** it would almost be funny.

a two handed hammer or axe ..ill go with hammer, nothing like smashing someones face in with a giant hammer early in the morning
Well since Adam Gershowitz (Design Manager in charge of Combat and Careers according to the article found here http://only-war.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11543) already said that chosen will be "-- very defensive-minded, very defensive-oriented --", I'd say 1h + shield. Two-handed sword, without a doubt. I was disappointed with a certain game which didn't actually have a two-handed sword, but from renders and screenshots, it definitely looks like WAR will be my new best friend.
Two-handed swords are just so...powerful. IRL I'm too small to wield one, so I make the most of my gaming experience with them. ^^

why not do both. A few heads on the belt, couple hanging on the shield. 1 or 2 faces stretched across... more trophy space the better in my opinion. Plus if they do get scuffed up it just gives you an excuse to go get more.

I love one-handed and shield combos. But I would like to see some real viable moves that actually use the shield as a weapon, such as a knockback or some kind of stun. (If I had a shield I know I'd smash someones face in if they got close enough:))

I think I'd play with a 2-handed runic sword, it just fits my character. Although even 1-handed swords in Chaos-terms are pretty large. I would prefer to play with one 1-handed sword, but I think I'd have a penalty too great compared to 2-handed and shielded players. Unless they have a method, that gives a dmg-penalty to wielding more weapons, which I've seen in other games.

I'd go with two-hand or duel wield, but mostly duel wield simply because game mechanics favour duel wielding in a long winded fight. Two-hand is only good for a quick and easy kill in game mechanics.
Two Handers.

my guess is that they will have at least the option of 1 hander and shield open, just for tanking purposes in PvE. unless shields arent that important in WAR as they are in WoW, for tanking. so i think a nice one hander flail and shield would look really nice for chosen, if not than just a big bad sword/axe totally works for me, i am not sure they will get different choices, as mythic has said that they really want this game to be iconic, so chosen get big swords, black orks get choppa and shield, witch hunter sticks with flintlocke and rapier, and what not. so we will see. i honestly hope they stick wtih that, would be really cool, deciding what type of weapon to use is hard, so this way they choose it for you.

I voted for the Two hander, but not the two hand sword or scimitar or anything of that sort.
I'm talking about either a Halberd, Bardiche, Spear or Voulge (Spears are easier to use with a shield then halberds because of the blade type, Halberds are for swiping -> hard to swipe while stay protected behind shield.)
I fully believe they should put the polearm weapon family into the game =D

Well if each individual weapon type can have a special affect I would definately have to go maces for some sort of stun affect. I just dont like the look of the swords on the big huge chosen. They seem more empire like so I would stick with axes or maces.
Honestly, no matter what a chaos warrior wields, he is gonna look so bad that you'll defecate yourself. I'm partial to the one handed sword and shield myself, but while watching the cinematic trailer I was thinking "Yep, gonna get me a big mace with lots of spikes and bludgeon some empire". So officially I'm going for 1 handed weapon and shield, but I love 'em all.

I am a firm believer in situational gearing.
That being said, if I am in a group I'll most likely go with the shield and one hander (the longer I stay up the more debuffs I can apply in order to help my allies).
If I am alone, out-numbered, or just need to full out dps I will go with the two-hander.

Sword and board all day long...well as long as it's a viable RVR weapon choice. I too would hate to see melee ruled by two handers ala WOW. Also I agree about the whole two-hander in one hand with a sheild deal, I'd be all about taking an AP nerf while it was equipped with my sheild
