View Full Version : Ordo Mortis

The Ordo Mortis is Invite Only. Don't ask to join, or even hint please. If you're good enough, and what we're looking for, we'll come for you.
The Kolver hills, Ostland. The forests are rumored to be haunted, strange deaths occurring, myths spread. Villages within live in a state of constant alarm, watching the world outside go by warily. They believe it to be a plague perhaps, or a creature that stalks them. Their eyes grow weary from watching, and some move away. But there are always the travelers, they pass through once then never pass through again. They fear the forests at night, their company falling dead at the slightest whim in the strangest of circumstances. Traps are laid out, nothing is ever caught. Balms and medicines are created; nothing seems to stop the death. And yet, almost at the heart lies a sanctuary. Completely untouched by death and the outside world is the local monastery, though the locals leave it alone. They know better than to bother old monks.
The monastery is huge. Built in the name of Saint Pieter, it stands proud atop a bare hill jutting steeply from the forests below. To those who can view it, it is splendid and picturesque from afar and up close. Great arches rise and meet, a huge central building with great spires covered in ornate carvings surrounded by lesser. A tower pierces the sky, allowing for a magnificent view of the land. Its tip is sharp and thin. Colossal stained glass windows created to perfection line the walls of the central building, each showing a beautifully created scene. Arches line up together and peak to form an entrance, huge oaken doors halting a man’s way inside. The path up to this enchanting greeting is winding and paved, all the way down the hillside to the mud track. A walkway fit for royalty.
If by some chance your fate were to walk up the grand path, to knock upon the foreboding doors and to be allowed to enter the hallowed ground, your senses would reel with shock at the interiors of the grand domain. The inside of the central building is spectacular: during daylight it is left empty to fill with multi-coloured lights filtering through the stained windows, and during the night it becomes alive with thousands of candles, flickering and creating such a magnificent atmosphere. The floor, instead of being lined with pews, is home to a huge and lengthy table. The legs are beasts, holding the polished wood aloft. Chairs line this centerpiece, red embroidered velvet allowing for a comfortable seat. Splendid candlesticks stretch from one end to the other, alive with candles in the dark.
And the rest of the monastery; It too, is created to indulge the senses. The tower is lined with windows, each step one takes up the winding staircase giving an even more potent view. The final few steps lead to an attic and a balcony. The view during the day is blinding, at night, all the more brilliant. To the back of the central building is a haven, a quiet place, a huge library filled with the knowledge of the world. Row upon row of bookcases, the walls seething with shelves, a literate’s heaven. Comfy sofas, rocking chairs, small tables are all present between columns of this vast collection. One could lose himself for a lifetime. The buildings around the central one are storage facilities, rooms for accommodation. Each is elaborate and customized, and all the windows have been removed and sealed for the purposes of privacy. Beneath the central building are crypts, filled with fallen heroes and lords.
And the monks… the monks…
The monks are dead.
Their blood drained. Their robes tattered. Their bodies thrown to a nearby swamp. They are gone and no more. New monks now inhabit the monastery; they claimed it for their own. These monks too though, are dead.
The monastery is a haven, yes. Free from disease, free from trouble and strife, free from the mortal world. Immortals inhabit it, vampires; the undead. They use it as a base, a meeting place, somewhere to perhaps call home. They stay within its walls for as long as they wish, abide to its few rules, enjoy the company. But as with all vampires, each eventually grows tired of the others’ presences, and will leave. This process can take years, centuries, and there are always those few who have stayed present through decades. Talking to other immortals, reading through the vast library, adding to it, entertaining themselves as they should will.
They form among themselves a sort of rulership. This is based loosely of course, and those among the small population are only expected to obey to a certain degree out of respect. The elders are treated as wise and powerful, and so are respected and obeyed. Councils are formed from the oldest present, and these decide fates and rulings. None dares disobey this council though, for it is final, and to do so would be to end a beautiful immortality. The hovel demands respect, for it is a sanctuary away from everything, a rare place, and none would wish to destroy it within sanity.
It was chosen in sanity. By a group, searching for a restful place. They found it and fell in love with it, the location, the architecture, everything about it was enchanting. And so with barely a word they slew the worshipping monks and claimed it for their own. A nest. And of course the outside world was still communicated with, through letters confirming the presence of monks. The outside world was to be kept informed, so no suspicion would be raised. However, the monks now wanted privacy, and other than the odd letter were completely unheard from. These requests were honored, and now no one suspected the truth; from the locals, to the authorities. It lay almost completely forgotten to the world, and that’s exactly how they wanted it.
Beneath the grounds, the main building, an ancient lies buried. In a state of complete inactivity. None of the immortals above know if he is still alive, if he is conscious. All they know is that he has requested to be left to rest. And he has prophesized a return, when they should need him once more to protect them. But for now he lies dormant, waiting. Those above respect, as is demanded of one so old.
They hide from the day in the crypts, or in the windowless rooms. They come out at night to wander the grounds, to sit at the vast counseling table and talk. They go out to hunt, to dine. And they live a dreamy life, a state lacking in adventure. They leave in search of foreign lands, in search of new views and art, or merely to live among mortals again, to get away from the tiring presences of other immortals. This is sanctuary to them, and peace.
They languish now, feeding from the locals who put the deaths down to myth. They thrive, learn, and become a changing community. They are immortal, they are fallen, and they are one.

Exarte Mortis
I. Thou shalt not spill the blood of human or immortal, nor raise hand to thy brethren within these sacred grounds, save only that defense is a right that shall not be denied you.
II. Thou shalt hide not thy troubles from the masters of the convent save only should they not affect it, lest thou lose the right to take sanctuary from them and turn all the hands of our Ordo against thy flesh.
III. Thou shalt abide by the council's decisions, save only that they may be contested at the time of their announcement.
IV. Thou shalt not raise hand against the Ordo itself, though neither shall you be bound to obey when the Ordo rests outside of thy senses' reach.
V. Thou shalt not reveal unto others the location of this Ordo, nor of the resting place of any who come unto it. Nor shall you give knowledge of the names of those who come unto this Ordo, for such shall name you anathema to our kind.
There is but one punishment for breech of our laws. Exile shall be visited upon you and for ever after shall you be named anathema to those who follow this code.

I go offline for a week, and what do I see?
Ramhez has written more than all of you.
Ramhez.
Dudes, dudette. I am severely dissapointed. C'mon Otto, what's happenin'? it's been a month!
I'm gonna be proddin' some buttock if any of you come online. Ever.
That goes for all of you ('part from Cass, but including Ramhez), get online any time soon. Don't want the ol' Ordo to die. Not yet, anywho. There's some organisin' to be done. If Otto ain't gonna do a blasted thing about the Swamps, we'll sort somethin' out.
Also, Igfig matey, I'm apologisin' on MT's behalf for not carrying on with your RP.
Bloody slackers... slackers I say! there'll be a cut on everybody's muffin rations.

Y'know Illya, I'm not sure. Maybe have him following us to the place, a latecomer of sorts. Though that might be tricky with the broken bridge... hum... yeah, I'm not sure. Just go with whatever you want.
Illya
11-12-2005, 08:13 PM
I'll see what I can do.
edit: I've gone back to the necrarch idea, seems to fit in best. I can't think of any way Alexei would come to where you all are, so I'll just use Vardante in this rp. Ta!

Just to say that we are all still alive, and that there is a roleplay going currently if anybody's interesting in posting something like once every few days or so. It's mainly to introduce Dinny in, but anyone's welcome if they have a good enough alibi for being there.

Osiris? well wax my elbows and call me Lucifer, mine eyes deceive me not!
You're not really one of the pointy-toothed sentimental creatures of the night, but I don't think there's anywhere much more suitable... perhaps the presence of a different being would raise some of the controversy and politics that caused the Ordo to revert to a hierarchy of power and some damn good writing from us all.
Alright Osiris. I invite you into the Ordo Mortis, unless there is anybody opposed, as an honorary member ('til the day ye' should finally create a new character... which is, conveniently enough, the same day that Hell is scheduled to freeze over.)

Right then. Someone please point me to some sort of relaxed, aimless roleplay thread so I can remember how to write. Or make one. Or... God, somebody do something.
Wait... at the moment I'm actually just assuming that I have... invitational immunity. Sovereign, speak. Write. Use your Super Powers and swing your cape around a bit. Whatever. Give me an honorary membership until I figure out whether I can still write or not. I'll roleplay my character into shape then write a profile, if you want one. Or don't give me an honorary membership and I'll just do it anyway. It doesn't really make any difference, I guess, I just get this warm glow inside when I see my name on the charter.

Yeah, so do I. Having said that, I enjoy such acts. So, if I get really bored and able, I'll be joining that too, though as what... well, I don't know. Something.

Okee. I have set up the new Loose Ends. I'm not so sure about the order of some recent events, but we are beginning shortly before the Grand Tournament starts.
I was thinking I'd awake in a safe house of some sort. The figure can be whichever of you gets there first. The attacking vampire is a Strigoi, if that's important.
The size and outcome of this RP are equally undefined: that is to say, do what you like.
The attacker could be a valid character if you need one, Kai.

Hmm... a female Strigoi, eh? Interesting. Disturbing, yes, but interesting. I just might take your offer. I'll probably post tomorrow, or tonight.
Oh, and furthermore:
Damn you, Igfig, for letting my poor lil' Bretonnian lass stumble into yet another dagnerous plot without her knowing it :D... I've a hunch that with what's been going on about her person recently, her life expectancy won't be very long anymore...
Draco
05-27-2006, 04:23 AM
Anyone mind if I use this RP as the 'When Henreight met the rest of Ordo Mortis' thing? It'll be like When Harry Met Sally. I can even do a fake orgasm scene if need be.
Ok, maybe not. But yeah, anyone complain a bit if I have me arriving and saying 'hey' and other tings?

Ah, but Mahite has already left the city. She's on her way to Altdorf for the Grand Tournament. Won't play anny further part in the tournament unless you want her to.
Kai-Loq
05-27-2006, 06:44 AM
Ah, okies :). No, I think I'll let her take a rest for now. I also decided against playing the female Strigoi... sorry. I don't see myself playing a character that basically hates the entire world and its population...
I'm working on a new character, however, so I'll probably manage a post tonight. Like Draco's, it'll be an introduction to the Ordo, I guess.

Draco
06-04-2006, 04:36 AM
Ooh, boobies.
I'm not too sure where to bring Henreight in atm. Feels a bit weird for another vampire to turn up where two are already. Might leave it a bit and have him pop in later.
If there is a later.
Kai-Loq
06-04-2006, 05:02 AM
I don't care continuing on my own for a bit, after all I could use some time to get Ada properly 'played in' (ahh... the joys of innuendo when rp'ing a Lahmian...). Still, I dislike double-posting, especially in an rp. But it's your call, really. I'll continue all the same, on my own if need be.
EDIT:
Oh, now may not be a great time to mention it, but me and Laggy put up a fun new rp, called Sniff-Squeek vs Menkauhor. I'd say, head over there and give it a read . It's supposed to be a light, wacky rp that mainly looks for players that don't take themselves too seriously all the time. Anything goes, really .

The Ordo never dies. No matter how much you stamp on it or not post on it for a few months, it'll still come struggling back.
Sort of like Anaris. But more comprehendable.
Igfig

Actually, it was twenty-four characters in length.
Also, stuff.
Anaris
12-06-2006, 05:17 AM
It was an oblique reference to the whole "post must be ten characters long".
Also, you all suck but not quite as much as everyone outside the Ordo Mortis. Congratulations, keep it up.

Apparently we're all dead. That was fun.

Oh, once there was a forumite named Illya,
Who had a very novel way to kill ya,
He'd bury you in profiles,
And demand countless trials,
What will it take to finally fulfil ya?!?
Nah, I don't really care too much in the Ordo, I don't have to read them all.
EDIT: Be nice, Anny-dear. You've spilt sourpuss on yourself.

Just to let you know on the subject of Generations, anyone remotely sensitive to mental things will sense Jean's mental search. In addition, don't take that post as me foreshadowing something that's coming soon or attempting to kill you all. It's just I got bored, so I introduced your erstwhile foes.
Sovereign
12-08-2006, 09:00 AM
Hehe, don't worry about your characters. If they weren't at the Ordo itself they ain't dead. So if you want them dead then they are and if you don't then they ain't, nice and easy.
That's some mighty stuff Anaris. I'll pop something up on Sunday at the latest, but I'll need to know the limits of what I can do to the girl. I ain't gonna kill her... but there's a more demonic plan in the works that I'd like to use.
Nice to see Celeste back again Illya!
Anaris

She's fast, but not even nearly as fast as Pierre. She's not very durable - she'll cut easily, her bones break, whatever, but she won't die and she heals well, though not fast at all. A day or so will see her back on her feet from nearly anything. Thing is, she won't fight you. But if you touch her or she touches you, you'll hurt - contact with her skin or close proximity burns. Lastly, she's part of the folklore of the area. She's got easy access to the minds of any local humans, and while she won't harm them or throw them up as meat shields, she can slip among them and hide a lot better than you, and she knows the city.
Basically, the limits are: If you think it's possible after hearing all that, you can do it.
Sovereign

I'd idly like to note that Sov and a large part of the surrounding buildings are now in immediate danger. Woot, this should be good - we'll see what you do when help turns up, eh?

Anaris
12-27-2006, 07:05 PM
That lack of posting there? That wasn't the Anaris Interval, despite what you may think. Now, this is going to look like an excuse. Well, two excuses. But actually truthfully, I couldn't think of anything to post except two lines saying "Jean got bored after a little while because he couldn't find them, then he sat down and brooded for a bit", and maybe two sentences about Pierre running around. I suppose I could make some sort of post about something completely unrelated (a la Peeves). But also I didn't have internet access for a little while. Waaaaaaaah. Oh yeah, and we'd been posting loads so it was someone else's turn, right Sov, Cass?

It's not my turn to post.
I kid you not. I have two lines I can write. If you really want me to remove the silly post and put a real one in its place, it still won't be much unless I pull a Cass (no offense) and stretch out those two lines to like a million by talking about the clouds Pierre sees on his travels around Brettonia and the sunlight on the trees and other completely unrelated airy fairy crap. The only thing I have to say is that Jean is continuing his searching and the others are GOING TO BED. Sorted. Now somebody wake up.
I'm reacting to you guys here. That means you need to act first.

Since it's never actually going to happen, here's a summary of where I expected Loose Ends to go:
Don Paco Fernando de Delmarez y Ibaraa y Souza comes to Marienburg or something to find Mahite Martin. After looking for a while, he gets jumped in an alleyway by a female Strigoi vampire. He puts up a relatively good fight, and so she decides rather arbitrarily to force the Blood Kiss on him, but is forced to flee partway through by the arrival of Kasimir. Kasimir takes Don Paco to a safer place and explains to him what happened, and that being only halfway blood-kissed is dangerous and will probably kill Don Paco if he doesn't get it completed.
Don Paco goes forth in a race against time to find this Strigoi that bit him, using his considerable detective skills to track her down while at the same time dealing with the terrible emotions being foisted upon him by the vampiric transformation. Kasimir helps him somewhat, but he's mostly busy with that girl he liked. Dramatic scene where Don Paco finds a useful lead from a guy, but the guy is terribly annoying and before the Don knows what's what, he's killed the guy and drunk his blood.
Eventually he tracks down the vampire who bit him. They fight. Paco uses his wits and cleverly exploits the Strigoi's animalistic instincts to outmaneuver the vampire and subdue her (tying her up, or cutting off all her limbs, or something). He forces her to finish the Blood Kiss and then kills her. He wanders off, vowing to never lose a hold on his human mind and sensibilities despite the beast within. Kasimir finds him and inducts him into the Ordo.
Epilogue: A while later, Paco has journeyed back to his hometown of Delmarez. He goes disguised, of course, since were he to return openly he would be welcomed and would have to stay, which would mean the death of all he holds dear. Posing as a messenger, he tells his family that Don Paco is dead and relates his final wishes to them. After looking back wistfully at his teenaged son, now head of the household, for the last time, he turns and strides forward to begin his new (un)life.
So yeah.

Cacophony and Discord (http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20265): a new Ordo Mortis RP, thought up by myself and Sovereign. Anyone is welcome, in any capacity. Most of you should remember the Ophery Falls, I think.
If we don't get much interest from the Ordo, may open it up to other decent writers in non-vampiric categories.
*pokes the corpse* Wake up!

Cassandra
02-24-2008, 06:45 AM
No, you can't access the old forums unfortunately. I don't know about An Ending.
The current Ordo roleplay is Cacophony and Discord, feel free to do whatever, it needs a plot now that we're done with the whole Sov/Keras/Ada thing.
I don't think that what happened to Kasimir was ever explicitly stated. I know that Sovereign broke his legs and used him to bait Pierre out of hiding. I can only assume that he gave him Final Death soon after that - or you know - not. Regardless, he didn't turn up in Generations or afterwards so whatever goes really. It's not been covered.
I remember you Ramhez! Sort of. Poor Kai, he's such a newbie.

"Have you seen the Abyss, Kasimir? Before this night is through, you will know the Abyss."
I liked that line.

I remember Ramhez, I just didn't read the edit he did to that last post he made. you know, the "Ask sov about Mortiis. And I'm sure you've actually posted in my pointless 'who remembers this guy' thread, Kai?" one.
Don't ever call me newbie again. I'll sit in the corner and sulk, don't think I won't.

I'm very flattered. Anyway, thought I'd just advertise the fact that I've posted up a little bit of fluff in the RP forum, at the risk of there being people reading this thread that will understand all the big words. Heck, you might even enjoy it a little bit.
EDIT Yeah I forgot to mention, it's called I Bet You A Dollar That Nobody Cares. That isn't the title for the actual thing, I just called it that in anticipation of the general reaction it's going to receive.

Eh, I remember the name. I was in Darus and the Crew. In fact I was in every guild Jake was in, I think... the Order of the Ebon Blade, the Carnival of Corruption, which we actually co-founded... not that any of this is actually relevant.
If you're wondering what these shiny new forums are like, I think the phrase 'General Gameplay Forum: 86 viewing, Roleplay Forum: 1 viewing' sums it up quite nicely. Or this (http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27580).
