View Full Version : A new pet owning class?

Personally, i love goblins and squigs in warhammer. I came from WoW. Any WoW players here know that hunters completely own. They are probably the best class. This is mainly becuase of their PETS. Will the squig herder become a class I will play because they are fair and cool, or a class I will play for the squigs while resenting how I almost don't need to try? What is mythic going to do to balance this class?

Warlocks beat hunters. I played a hunter and warlocks most of the time could kill hunters and my memory of my pet was he was useless. Pvp hed run in and die. PvE he would run in do a bit of damage then get in an aoe and die. Both Pvp and PvE pet would die unless you wasted all your mana on mend pet. Warlocks used there fears and dots to destroy people. The pets for warlocks did add alot of damage though so it can work. My point is dont make them like hunter pets that just get .

Okay, one pet class in one game is overpowered. That has nothing to do with it being a pet class, and everything to do with that game. That game is not this game. There have been plenty of balanced pet classes through the history of MMOs. I see no reason to worry about the squig herder any more than the ironbreaker or the marauders.

Preach it.

Guys, seriously, this isn't WoW. It is ok to draw comparisons, but thinking that squig herders will own because a class like them in another game was overpowered is asinine.

Well I hope that Myth follows the way that used in daoc. Pet classes were damn annoying, Fun to play, but still balanced in Daoc. Take Spirit Master, Squishy Caster and with the Daoc casting system excellent pet who could block and parry attacks aimed at you.

I Know for fact that the pet is made for the squishy gobbos protection, buddy and armor :D

I think they're going to own, just because they're so damn cool.
I've always liked squigs in WH, and the prospect of commanding a small number of them AND shooting at an enemy is just too good to pass up.

I highly doubt they'll be overpowered or anything.

I really love the idea of beeing a supercool goblin with red blobs around me when I kill other players

Well, warlocks could kill hunters (they could kill anything), so could my protection paladin (easy enough), so can the PoM-Pyro mages, and there's always the full stunlock rogue... actually, quite a few classes could kill hunters :p

But back on topic, from what we've seen so far, both the herder and the squigs will be fairly fragile. Also, each can be attacked separately and taken out to lessen the overall power of the Herder.

Actually, the Herder will probably be a regular glass cannon class. The problem with WoW hunters was they had good damage AND good range AND good armor AND durable pets AND tons CC. The herder promises damage and CC so far, which doesn't sound too IMBA...

from the small bits n pieces i've read on classes i think the herder and squig will both be kinda light in the armor and health department.

the herder not wanting to get into close combat and trying to stay at range most of the time. a collection of different squigs so you can use the one you need depending on the situation at hand.

what i did like reading was the idea that squigs can jump through enemy lines to cause trouble for those in the back. if you have a bunch of enemy tanks protecting the squishies that you can't get past, just send the squigs over to temp the enemy in breaking ranks ;)

i also love reading the part that the squig would keep on fighting even after the death of the herder :D

A Squig Herder is one of the many many classes in this game I am likely to play. From the videos I have seen so far involving SH's they kick in the DPS department, however they are low on the surviveability scale.

Probably in the scale of things they're the least surviveable class in the Dwarf vs Greenskin pairing. A Hunter in WoW had decent HP and the second best armor classing, a SH has scraps of leather for armor and low HP being a tiny scrotty Goblin, and unlike the Shaman he can't heal himself, and his Dwarf counterpart the Engineer excels at medium-short range combat and wears decent armor for his class type.

What he does do is pack a whopping punch from a distance, and I mean a serious dynamite loaded punch, work tactically with your Orc melee brethren and you'll be one of the most ditested gits on the field. If you watch the latest RvR videos of a Squig Herder in action during a Scenario he was causing absolute mayhem, despite the fact he a) hadn't learned how to use his pet correctly or b) Squigs weren't working properly in that build >.<

Also unlike the WoW Hunter, the SH will be able to call on a variety of pets on the fly, be they ranged damage, melee damage, tank, or status effects, so in that respect they are very tactical. So far we've seen a Horned Squig (probably melee DPS), a Spiked Squig (Fires his quills for Ranged DPS), a Battle Squig (Larger than the others with big teeth, probably tank), and Poison Squig (Had large funnels on his head for bellowing out gases, status effects DoT's etc.).

So in summary a SH will be a tricky class to master, bad SH's will be cannon fodder while good ones will be . Should a Witch Hunter or Hammerer manage to get up to you, you'll probably have to work damn hard to get away from him alive, but should you catch them at a distance you can nuke them to kingdom come.

Squigs Stay alive when you die, that idea makes them a ton more annoying if there are 2 armies against each other.
Squig Hearders are the class you will want lots of if you intend on Zerg Rushes IF and only IF squig hearders can have several squigs out at once. (they say squig pack, so who knows?)
Think about it this way, 10 squig hearders, with 3 tank squigs each = 40 targets. If you have 10 of each greenskin class, it will come to a total of 70 different targets to get rid of,
with 20 of each it goes up to 140. If you just have an army of squig hunters, and you have 40 in said army, you also have 120 squigs for a total of 160 targets to get rid of to win.
and of course there's different kinds. Melee squigs are best for zerging, Poison squigs (expecially if they have AoE effects) are great for helping support your troops by helping down the targets they are facing, and ranged squigs are obiviously best if you just want to stand off and snipe off targets.
I'm seriously considering rolling Squig Hearder, An all Squig Hearder Guild would be interesting indeed if they can control more than 1 at a time.

Just because game developer of game X is an nincompoop who had a hissy fit over game Y, where he started off getting banned for cheating, and decided to crap all his idiocy up the rectum of game X, doesn't mean that WAR will be similarly burdened.

Thank goodness.

Well just like most of the people on this thread I'd like to say this is not WOW this is WAR and we all know war will wtf pwn wow, so why even take the time to compare them?
But to answer your question I am hoping that Squig Herders will be a little more like Beast Lords from ever quest 1 then anything else, Beast Lords had a buff to give their pet a proc on their attacks and a buff for their stats, and there pets could potentially be useful in pvp and pve depending on the skill of the Beast Lord. The pets were extremely balanced and very "in-sync" with what the Beast Lord was in eq 1, and that is how I hope the Squig Herders will be as well.

I'm hoping Herders remain the only pet class, because it makes them truly unique.

I doubt it will happen though. Everyone really seems to like the Delf Beasties.

The new word from Josh at Mythic is that it's only one Squig at a time. See the thread on that issue on this forum.

Hopefully the Squig will have some staying power and a variety of fun commands.
