For pure leveling, is anything really needed besides seeds/spores:?
Can I just place the seeds/spores on pots and continue fighting and increase in level?
Is there a cap on this?
I am not talking about critical success for rare mats, just plain leveling.
Thanks in advance

I think that the soil/water/nutrients only speed up the process. This will "increase" your output of better materials for dyes and such only because you are increasing the number of attempts. I don't think they have any effect, but this hasn't been proven/disproven by anyone I've talked to.
Side note: I really think the lack of a recipe system is making the professions confusing. No one knows if a blue watering can will yield a better harvest, or if you use all level one modifiers will give you the same. I personally am frustrated with the fact that the professions aren't self sufficient, like Salvaging won't get you all you need for Talisman Crafting. I think it's a good idea, just frustrating.

What type of recipes do you want? The products of seeds/spores is pretty straight-forward. As for soil, water and nutrients I am working on some detailed data some of which suggests that each additive affects a different characteristic of the harvest (critical chance, special chance, number of products). I don't have enough data yet, so this last point isn't entirely clear. I will also add that it seems that the effects of additives is related to your cultivating skill and not to the level of the seed, but again I need more data (and alot more soil/nutrients).

I definately see a major difference between using higher quality mats and higher critical success.
When using low grade materials, I usually get the plant but that's it.
When using medium or high grade materials, I get a lot of seeds back, with a decent number of apothecary stabalizers and the occasional dye.
I haven't done any hard numbers, but that is just observation.

What I want to know is if it is necessary to add all three additives. Watering cans I have tons but the other additives are harder to obtain. Naturally I expect that all three has benefits but if I can just add water and have a decent chance of getting my seed back then I can forgo waiting to obtain the other additives.
