It seemed like this was the right call, but thankfully I haven't gone very far down this path. Right now cultivating seems obnoxious- it eats bag space like crazy, with a bunch of different variation of each herb variety. I get stuff out of it that I can use in my apothecary skill, but the pieces that look like they should be vendor pieces to me just aren't. From what I've heard, cultivators need stuff from scavengers, and you can scavenge for stuff for apothecary needs as well. Has anyone made this switch? Is it better to have apothecary and scavenging?

With Scavenging, your Apothecary will be totally self-sufficient. You can level to 155+ (possibly 200) without ever buying/needing an ingredient from someone else.

Cultivating is just....ugh. It's horrible and it makes me want to shoot myself in the face, multiple times.

I have made the switch, but I have started leveling Cultivation on my auction mule.

My main has a plan of apothecary/scaveging now, and really cultivation is not that annoying with the plantme addon and 4 plots. I was culivating 184 and droped it.

Cultivation is a mini-game more than anything else (I think it's fun but that's just me). However, as an Apothecary/Cultivator you are screwed when you get to around skill level 25. At that point, your lv.25+ herbs will break the crappy vials and unless you are very lucky or spend tons of money at the AH on watering cans, dirt and nutrients, you won't have any stablilizing (secondary) ingredients. These are easily gained from butchering and scavenging, but not from cultivation. It takes luck and tons of supporting items to get them as a cultivator. Right now, the only unique thing about cultivations is the ability to grow Goldweed, which I've heard is inconsequential because you can make hi-level gold cores with crappy weeds and good gold dust. Cultivation is the losing gathering skill right now, mostly because it produces far too few supporting ingredients without support from other skills. Butchering and Scavening does just about everything cultivation does right now and more. Cultivation's one up-side is the variety of potions it allows you to create.

Easy solution: use more cloudy water. Can't use just one, must have two at least.
