I am level 20, and my cultivation is level 130 (apothicary level 130 as well). I am only leveling like one skill pt in cultivation every 15 seeds or so, maybe more. Is this normal? I may be doing something obviously wrong, but here is how I cultivate:

*I have the level 75-100 level seed. I buy the level 1 soil, water, and nutrient.
*I cultivate them using those items.

Is there something else I need to do differently? I mean, is there higher level soil, water, nutrients that i should be using that I don't know about? At the moment the only ingredients that I know of are boiught from any vendor, but they are all level 1 items. Any help is appriciated. thanks...

(im having the same issues with apothicary...I still just use the Thin Glass Vile, and level 1 water...3 of the waters as stabilizers...is this wrong?)

You really need to use higher level seeds. Generally keeping the levels of the seeds as close to your current level as possible. The 100 is still viable but what i would suggest is trying to buy a few lvl 125 seeds (pray there are some) from the AH to get yourself to 140 cultivating.

After that find one of the world RvR objectives that are labeled with "Artisan's gift" and talk to the sergeant there to get the +10 crafting buff. Not only will you be able to use level 150 seeds you can also use the 4th and last plot. This will basically guarantee skill ups for quite a few levels. I personally had quite some trouble finding 150 seeds on the AH so i resorted to this seed which can be obtained from the quests also listed there:
http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=89445
The seed listed there is nearly indestructible at the cost of planting slower. I suppose those quests might be rather impossible considering your level so that might be an issue but then again your tradeskills are getting ahead of your level at the moment.

If all you wish to do is level cultivating your main focus should be getting the highest level seed you can use (DO NOT forget the crafting buff if it could take you to the next level of seeds!) and buy the rest of the materials such as water and soil from the merchant just to speed up the process.

My thoughts at 194

Soil/water/nutrients are a waste for skillup hunting. They can speed up the time a bit but I'm grinding or pvping while it's going so I don't care if it takes twice the time.

You can get skills ups up to item level +50 but trying to go past +40 hurts.

Check the AH all the time for seeds, I find about a stack for cheap each time I check.

Do PQs the seed level you're looking for and need the seeds.

I am always growing something I check my 4 plots every 10 minutes or so and reload them.

The soil/nutrients/water are nice to use for crit chance for dye and ingredients, and hybrids but again I wound only use them on a slecet number of high level seeds.

I haven't used soil/nutirents/water in the last 100+ levels. I'm sure it would have helped the 20 out of 300+ that ended as wilted but I don't think it's worth paying attention to.

I also have pots-a-maker at 140. Unless you have scavaging or a frined that does I wouldn't level it till your in your 30s where money is flowing. at about 120-130 you will need the right level of water or it will fail everytime. This water is 2-4g a stack on my broker so it's just a pain.

Pretty much agree with everything said. Additives for cultivating is a waste when just trying to get skill ups.

You need level 100-125 seeds which are found in T2, so just head to a PQ and need like the other poster said. I have never had anyone question me needing seeds.

A slightly different direction of the topic but...

Has anyone actually seen much of a difference when using water and soil that's higher level? I'm at... 130ish cultivating, maybe higher, and I really don't notice much of a difference between using a cultivating level 90 water/soil or both vs using the lvl 1. And yes, I have a scavenger so getting the soils and waters is just a matter of time for me.

Also... I've seen a variety of different plants, seeds, crossbreeds, etc... but the one thing I take note of painfully since I have been trying to lvl a butcher for nutrients too is...

Where are all the BLUE/PURPLE seeds and ingredients from cultivating? My level 8 butcher has already gotten blue apothecary main ingredients from mobs... in over 200 seeds planted harvested, I haven't seen 1 blue result. Even from T1/T2 seeds which I don't really get skill ups from anymore...

Yes there is a huge difference using nice soils, waters, and nutrients. With 150-175 seeds and top notch 150+ additives, you can go on sprees of chain proc special moments, get multiple herbs per harvest, as well as almost always crit success and get your seed kicked back to you.

Very good to get resins to stabilize your potions, as well as dye pigments and the occasional fixer.

EDIT: In response to the OP so there is no confusion, additives do not increase the chance of a skillup. Just toss high level seeds in your plots and then go questing, changing them out every so often, basically levels itself.

Were you using green ones perchance? I notice most of the 100+ items seem to be green but my scavenger is just getting into T3 so I've been stockpiling them for the next growing session I do so I havent used many yet.

I do have some blue watering cans too...

Most blue items seem to be 150+, and yeah I was using mostly blue items.
