I take up butchering for my dok since my shaman is already on scaveging @ 200.

I level like what i do normally and i decide to give up butchering after 20 minutes. most of the mobs in PQ are humanoids which facilitate scavenging.. and its so boring to farm those bats/ cats while my peers is doing PQ happily { i try to farm other stuffs , take up alternative route to level }

I give up. I switch to scavenging again....

I m sorry this is a anti-butchering note but i bet many out there has the same feeling...

can EA make 50% of the PQ to be animal based?

One advantage of Butchering is that Kill Collectors are almost always animals. So you can get "bonus" KC exp while Butchering.

Butchering is also very specific in what you get from the animal. Specific animals give specific materials.

Butchering is something you sort of have to put effort into doing. It's not something you can do while you're doing your normal questing.

There are some PQs here and there that have animals in them, but you're correct there are far more PQs that are humaniod based.

Butchering is far from useless.

As the previous pster stated many kill quests are based around beat killing. Many of these when completed (usually 50+ kills) give bestiary Tok Tactic unlocks.

Kill two birds with one stone and end up with a plethora of ingredients for other skills.

I find its best taken on an alt.

I have one main (still lowish level) with I have TM and Salvaging on. And spend plenty of time RvR.
I then have alts - Apothocary and cultivating, scavenging on its own and butchering on its own most of these are Pve

This way I get everything I need for crafting without having to hit the AH, and can then sell any unused ingredients for good money.

It does mean I level up my main a little more slowly, but I'm getting to see most of the content and am self sufficient.

... in all of my time butchering I never realised you could actually COMPLETE KC quests. O_O

From the item database, it seems butchering gives more main ingredients for strength and toughness related stats, while scavenging gives more magic related (wis, int, resists) effects. You also get 0 talisman related items from butchering, which can be good and bad. It's too bad more butchers don't realize this, as they could make a tidy sum from selling stacks of these ingredients on the AH to the scavengers.

... in all of my time butchering I never realised you could actually COMPLETE KC quests. O_O Ditto. I'm rank 26 and don't have single tok tactic unlocked. The humanoid one would have been nice, as it's impossible to ride through certain areas without pulling one. It makes sense though, as it would be too easy to level in some areas with the KC essentially giving you double XP.

Your class has nothing to do with the decision. It really depends on what you wish to supply or what you plan on doing.

If you want more Apothecary supplies, go butchering. I also believe that this will be a better one to get if you wish to sell stuff as most people won't take butchering. And personally I don't have a problem getting stabilizers.

If you don't want to every have to just farm mobs, go scavenging. There are many more Scavenagable mobs out there than butcherable so you won't have to go out of your way to find stuff to scavenge. You will also get much more TM supplies as a scavenger.

You also have to look at the fact that everybody and their brother and sister and cousins are taking up Scavenging, so if you are in a PQ expecting to get every mob killed, chances are somebody else is going to be there doing the same.
