View Full Version : Shadow Warrior? Somehow shadow and high elves don't seem to mix

Hey everybody, mockingbyrd7 here. There's something I'm not entirely clear on: why is a Shadow Warrior on the High Elf side? I'm not too familiar with Warhammer but from every other MMORPG I've played, High Elves have been arrogant, but good and sometimes light-obsessed. How does "Shadow Warrior" fit into this? Unless High Elves are different in this game?

Thanks in advance.

Shadow Warriors are the people of Nagarythe (Where most of the High Elves who swore loyalty to Malekith) come from who remained loyal to the Phoenix King, They are in the part of Ulthuan which is often the first target of any invasion. They have an intense hatred for all Dark Elves after millenia of war and have become masters of Guerilla warfare. Thus they are the scouts of the Phoenix Kings army.

They use shadow magics and are the darker side of the High Elf society (Though not in the way Dark elves are) and are fierce and vicious fighters. Their also the most likely elves to be found abroad as they are more likely to spend time with other races.

They aren't disliked by other HE but most are wary of them due to their warrior-like nature.

Don't forget that they are not above 'dark elf' tactics to win. Shadow Warriors are like terrorists, they will do Anything to win, even give their own lives, but they'd do it for a good cause. They'll torture, hit and run, kill a person who has surrendered, and send carved heads of the warriors back to their ships so as to dishearten the rest of the raiding party.

It's very true that they hate dark elves, this is mainly because due to the magic used during the Great Sundering, Naggarythe sank beneath the waves, devouring and killing many of the elves.

Also, the main reason people dislike Shadow Warriors, is not because of their war-like nature and rather un-elflike habits, but rather the fact that many of their kin joined the Witch King in his efforts to become the High King. "Touched by the Witch King" is the saying that applies to them. But still, they are treated with a feared reference rather than common disdain, since it is well known by elves how fiercely they fight, how well they guard, and how swiftly they kill.

I'm actually kind of new to Warhammer, too, but I got some warhammer codices and army books... and I gotta say the answer to your question (imo) is:

Warhammer is just hardcore like that. It's like thinking outside the box and saying "You know what? Why NOT?"

I'm not Warhammer pro, but iirc Warhammer High Elves are not pansy fairies. they're arrogant, imperialisting born overlords, remote and deadly people. maybe fairies on steroids with world domination ambition.

And Shadow Warriors are the cruellest of the bunch.

They better be a playable class, damn it.

Thanks for the replies, they've been very informative. They sound like a cool class, maybe I'll play one.

If they do the Shadow Warrior right it will be one of the coolest classes in the game. When Malekith instigated the civil war, only a handful of elves from his home province of Nagarythe remained loyal to the true Phoenix King. These were the first shadow warriors, led by the last remaining noble of Nagarythe who did not betray the Phoenix Crown: Alith Anar. They are outcasts of general high elven society, and are waging a constant war against the dark elves. They will travel to whatever ends of the earth necessary to find and defeat the dark cousins.

Alith Anar had disappeared millenia ago, but has recently returned to aid Eltharion in his attacks against the dark elves. His most infamous act (in the eyes of the dark elves) was his nailing of 700 druchii to the cliff walls as a warning to further invasions. He also snuck into the court of Morathi, mother of Malektih, danced with her in disguise, and then stole a magical talisman from her.

Shadow warriors are awesome.

It's like... They've spent to much time studying dark forces and all that, so they've come to use what they fight.

Not as such.

They're the only High Elves that give into their hate, and because of this they're under constant suspicion from the rest of Ulthuan. The other High Elves try to see the Druchii as any other foe in fear of submitting to their rage and becoming little better than the Druchii themselves.

They didn't get that way by learning from the Dark Elves. It's all natural, baby.

I only state that the "shadow" in their name propably comes from the hatred they have against Dark Elves, they hate them to death and even die happilly (still hating) fighting them

And that their king, Alith Anar, is the Shadow King.
And that their heroes and mages use Shadow Magic.

Also, they're more or less the only high elves with black hair.

I believe it may also have something to do with their unorthodox methods of disposing of those dirty Druchii. Unlike conventional troops, shadow warriors tend to be sneaky, infiltrating lines. Not going toe to toe like a swordmaster. Not to mention the grotesque things they do outside of combat... such as pinning Druchii warriors to the side of a cliff.

This makes their personalities much "darker" than those of their brethren. So the term Shadow Warrior fits them, even though they're Helfs.

Shadow warriors are in the High Elf army and they are considered as High elves, but they are truly known as Shadow Elves, fighting with dark methods for the light.

Not entirely true. Elves from Caledor are noted for typically having black hair.
