As the title says, clothing and colours. Now, I'm not too sure about you guys, but I'm not sure about all this 'white and light blue' colour scheming used by GW. I mean, it looks good and stuff, and it's the usual elvish colour. But they also have a green themed high elf army. What do you think of coloured clothing? I think that lord of the rings online did a reasonable job on it, allowing people to dye their armours, which is nice.
Also, the clothing itself. They all wear robes, right? Don't they ever wear anything else? Or is it really, just robes? It's just a question as I'm not too sure.

Silken robes are symbols of nobility and wealth, they're also incredibly practical and help in storing body heat as well as being loose enough to release excess heat. I have yet to hear of a High Elf who didn't wear a robe.
As for the blue and white, it's canon to the official army of the High Elves. While in game terms everyone is able to produce their own color schemes (my own is rose and gold), in fluff the elves will be wearing white and blue for their own colors. Just in the same way you see Slaanesh always painted pink/purple, tzeentch is blue, etc.
Robes, Leather Jerkins, Ornate Armor depending on where they come from.
Blue, White, Silver and Gold are canon. Sometimes Blue is replaced by Purple, Red or Green. Shadow Warriors wear black and grey. Caledorians Red and Green. Lothern like Red and Blue apparently.
Just depends on where they are from.

Regular HE clothing seems to borrow heavily from classic Persian costume:

The heavier ornamentation is more like that of the Mughal dynasty however:

Reminds me of 'The Legend of Arslan' and it certainly ties in with a lot of the oriental influences in the Ellyrian cavalry etc.

First link doesn't work for me but, meh.
Also, shadow warriors, do they wear robes? Judging by the mini's I'd say no. At most they'd be wearing a tunic.

That would be a mostly no, answer. Like the Elites of the Asuryan army, they're always at arms. They probably sleep in their armor with poisoned daggers under their pillows. ;)

Yeah. They tend to wear helmets or face-masks, cloaks, chainmail, tunic and shirt over or under the chainmail, leggings, and high boots:

Just to link some more concept art of High Elf clothing (from Warhammer Mark of Chaos):
High Elf Spearman:

- note the tall helmet, the long robelike armor.
High Elf Swordmaster:

- note the plumed helmet, the gold and gemstone ornamentation, the scale-mail robe.
High Elf Archers:

- note the simple robes, the clean lines, and the use of simple colors, the use of gold/silver and gemstones.
High Elf Phoenix Guard:

- note the elaborate plate and scalemail, the use of contrasts between silver and gold.

That is what makes them unique from other fantasy elves, in terms of looks. They are not just ubermensch humans with the archtypical Western ideals of beauty. I.E. tall, pale, and blond.
Instead, they look very alien. Lithe of the limb, tall bullet shaped heads, black eyes.

From a TT perspective Elves wore more than just robes. Dragon Princes for instance wore much heavier armor.
As for colors, my own personal HE army was Green and Gold w/white highlights, but I do know that blue is a somewhat traditional color for them.

While I'm all for blue and white, I think a limited clothing dye system would be best to provide customization and keep integrity at the same time.
My thinking is that all armor in the game (or at least the majority, most notably chest, leggings, helmet, gloves and boots) should be able to be changed slightly in color in some way. Eg. A HE robe could be red and white, blue and white, or green and white.
With some of the more intricate armors, this could probably be a big hassle to incorerate, however, from what I've seen at least, it looks like armor options out there are quite limited in the first place (all Teir 1 magus pictures seem to have the same clothing, I'm not as sure about others, but I'm fairly sure most of them have had fairly specific to their class clothing) I really like this, as it makes classes ultra recognizable, but if that truely is the case, I want to be able to customize how my armor looks to at least some extent.
My hope is that classes each have their own set of 2-3 options per equipment slot in each tier, with some color customization options. I am fairly certain this wont be the case, but I hope dearly that we wont have ultra mismatched generic clothing in the game. (Eg. grey wizard's robe : pure grey, all support classes can use at rank 5)
