Signature Pics

hey guys i am an avid warhammar player and was following warhammar online last time till it got closed down:( , and i found this searching for mmorpg's.

back then i payed [in another mmorpg's money] for a custom sig to be made for the forums there. I am just wondoring will we ever be able to use pictures in our sigs, or upload our own avatars.

Well, no. Some people would just use them to pimp their fansites. And we can't have that, can we? :p

Well, okay. Seriously, they make the forum a lot slower to use. I should know, we allow graphical signatures at our own forum - but then, we aren't having the kind of traffic WA gets.

The big reason we don't allow big flashy image signatures is become this forum is about the content. We want people will be able to recognize people by the quality of their posts, not their photoshop skills. While I've seen some very talented artists put together some very cool image sigantures, ultimately I felt they detract from the forum. So to the dismay of some, they won't be allowed here at Warhammer Alliance.

While there are many mature posters that could've had pretty images both as avatars and in signatures, there are also an amount of posters that would abuse it for whatever purpose.

I favour reading good posts before watching images. Remember that not everyone has broadband either, despite what you might think.

Besides, I don't think it would be fair to put yet another strain on the moderators in having to moderate avatars/signatures as well.

I guess the Show signatures/avatars and Images checkboxes in options have no function then. People can still link images to thier siggy, like i have done above, so I guess that makes it elective viewing of Sig images.
Yeah Moderating Sigs would be a pain, even if [IMG] was enabled at reaching a certain rank, and disabled when a sig is reported as bad.
People would still use large sigs and not compress them, So show images checkbox would have to be off by default so people would have to choose to see sig images.
50% of people who use Sig images prolly shouldnt, lol

I have an idea which i would like some input from both players and admins.

Why dont we allow photoshop sigs, BUT only 1 per guild that has proven stability on these forums. Like I would like one done for The Inquisition (sorry CoN). I understand players would say "Thats not fair because I dont like to RP".. well.... to be honost and blunt, no sig for you.

Though that's something that needs to be sorted. All right: Guild Avatars and Smilies pending sorting out. (eg. I'm gonna throw ideas around with the rest of the team and see what comes out).

I'm afraid images in signatures definately will never be happening on these forums. However, feel free to add as many links as you like to your signatures, keeping within the limits of course.

Personally, I'm glad we don't have pictures in signatures. On most forums that allow them they really clutter up the page. Making it harder to read the actually discussion between all the damn pictures.

However, I'd really LOVE to see custom avatars (limited in size obviously). The generic ones are so impersonal. Not to mention that I'm used to recognizing people by their avatars, not their names. So I see everyone with the same avatar as the same person, unless they're posting straight after eachother.
I keep thinking anyone with the imperial fighter avatar is Enarion, for example :D
