I love dwarves, and the dwarf community.
I heard about WAR some time ago, and decided to roll a goblin shaman, cause I like goblins, and I like being a support kindof guy.
Now.. I heard about WAR while I still played WoW (With mah shaman), and as time passed.. I played less and less with my shaman and more and more with my warrior. So now, I'm kind of torn whether or not to be a shaman, or a tank. I stopped playing WoW, with love lost for my shaman and alot of good times with my warrior. I do love to tank, an awful lot.
First things first, I think the idea of tanking another real person in WAR is exciting. And may be challenging. So I'm leaning more towards a tanking class at the moment.. but there's just so many of them here!
I've been reading and comparing the current tanking classes in the game. And I narrowed down my preferences to Dwarf Ironbreakers, and Black Orcs. I love both Orcs and Dwarves. Dwarves, being tough, stocky little . And Orcs, being big dumb ugly brutes with bloody axes and spikes and whatnot.
When I picked my race at WoW.. It was close call between Orcs, and Dwarves. I picked Orcs because Dwarves were allied with Gnomes and Elves.. no thanks. (And I liked the Orc lore in Warcraft alot too)
---------------------------------------------
But enough about my life story, there are still somethings I am missing.
It appears that in terms of being a traditional meatshield, Ironbreakers take it? Reading their description, they gain grudge by taking hits, as well as their allies taking hits, and they use grudge to hit harder, and do more things to make themselves a bigger problem, which is pretty cool.
Black Orcs however, seem like the kind of tank who gets in your face, and beats your face, and uses 'disabling' techniques on you, to hinder your output of damage in combat.. I think. It seems that they are more focused on tanking single targets.. I guess they disable one target enough to a point where the target has no choice but to take out the Black Orc to do anything in combat? Personally I like the grudge system more than combo points.
Now my question to you, is not what I should pick. But why YOU picked the Ironbreaker? And why do you like your tanking skill above others?
Thanks in advance for reading and replying. ;)

Hi. Well i would go for the black orc. Mainly Because the dwarf earn grudge when him and alies get hit, so he does more damag. But you'r alies are not supposed to get hit really. So in a way his ability to do more damage isnt really ment for him, its ment for the dps. While the black orc reduces the tamage enemie do to his alies, witch is good. In the end the enemie almost don't have a choise then to hit the tank. witch is the tank's purpose.
But i wouldent choose untill the elf classes come out.

I've always been a dwarf fan, but nothing says 'dwarf' more than warhammer dwarfs. GW got them right,;and their culture, history, and character are utterly brilliant.
I love the gritty determination they posses; the sheer power of will they can muster even when faced by an appallingly overwhelming force. I love the way that they grit their teeth through thick and thicker just to stand by their kin and comrades, even if they know failure and death is certain. The way that they would walk through the fires of hell just out of honour or duty to their generals - not out of mindless obedience, but out of respect and friendship.
Not only all that; but I like the way that they are not foppish or poncy for an 'order' race. They're down-to-earth, gritty, and grubby. They can fight dirty, and they relish the prospect of tearing apart a band of greenskins and leaving their remains dripping from axes, hammers and shields. They march relentlessly against their ancestral foes - to repay them for their grudge-warranting deeds a hundred-fold in blood, mayhem, and dawi vehemence.
What better class of the dawi to represent this than the Ironbreaker?
I picked the Ironbreaker for a few reasons. firstly I am a Dwarf fan, so I am biased. Secondly they have kick- looking armour, the best if you ask me!! Thirdly, I love the concept. Ironbreakers are as hard-as-nails, and lore-wise they can endure greater hardships than most other warriors in the Old World.
Plus the "Grudge Bar" sounds great. Each hit against your allies is a hit that will be returned a hundred-fold... If your enemies ignore you as an Ironbreaker and go for your allies - then they are about to wind up dead. This mechanic forces them to acknowledge your furious existence, and forces them to attack you, the tank, and attempt to bring you down fast!!
Sounds like an ideal tanking mechanic, a very "hit me, or die" feel to it.

Hopefully attacking another tank won't give nearby ironbreakers grudge - imagine a group only of ironbreakers going completely mental this way!
I could imagine that all attacks made on you friends by your foes would give a little amount of grudge, but the most of it would come from the attacks made on your friends by the foe you have taunted and targeted, if you understand that? So that attacks made by an enemy under the influences of your taunt give you like 30% more grudge. Or something like that.

To me the Black Orc is more or less a stun tank, that's great and all but i'd rather choose Ironbreaker becuase he's more of, Don't touch me tank or i'll kill you!

Exactly. From what I can tell of an ironbreaker, they are the kind of person you spot out in the world and go "OHSHI-", and yes they do have the best armor, making them walking fortresses. I do like tanking skills of ironbreakers alot because like you said. The grudge system forces players to acknowledge your furious problematic existance.
The last you want to do is ignore an ironbreaker and attack his allies, cause soon enough you'll have to deal with a pissed off and possibly drunk ironbreaker stomping at you full of grudge.
Black Orcs however, seem like the type of class to make themselves a problem in a different way. Seems to me that they get close to a group and start pummeling, and stunning, and snaring everyone and make themselves into a problem by being more frustration than a threat. Which doesn't seem as cool, but seems pretty helpful too.
I always loved being the more traditional tank, and the ironbreakers are very appealing to me at the moment, but I'm still trying to learn a little more about Black Orcs.
Thanks again for your responses everyone.

One would think that it does work that way as well. Especially since the taunt is meant to make people want to attack the taunter. And I really doubt it makes an exception out of another tank that is in your group. It is a protection for all of your allies (probably groupwise only). I always see the same claim, with every single MMO, that a group of only whatever class would be so devastating because of so-and-so, but that is far from the truth. The simple fact that every class has a downside, so does the Ironbreaker. You can only truly shine if you have a diverse group, not a group with just one class. Or look at the Choppa, the longer he fights, the more powerful he becomes. So why would that mechanic be alright for a Choppa, but it would be wrong for an Ironbreaker to be able to protect another Ironbreaker? Would one not use the same line of thinking with the Choppa? They would be really powerful as one group, but they won´t be either, I am sure. Since they will also have a downside.

Lemme get a quick comparison in here if you guys dont mind
-------
IRONBREAKER ------------------------------------ BLACK ORC
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Short ------------------------------------------------- Tall
Smart ------------------------------------------------ Dumb
Drink more than anyone -------------------------- Drink once in a while
Eat roasted meats --------------------------------- Eat Roasted grots
Pissed off about everything ----------------------- Just out for a good time
Smell like rocks ------------------------------------- Smell like hell
Constantly being mistaken for trashcans ------ Constantly being mistaken for moss
Stuntie, Beardling, Midget, etc. ----------------- Greenie, Shrek, Retard, etc.
Rip out Orc Teeth --------------------------------- Cut off Dwarf Beards (DAMN ELFS!)
For RP, theyre both pretty even, but I still love my dwarfs a ton. AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, THEN YOU CAN TAKE A SHORT WALK OFF A LONG DROP!
KARAK SADRA! I WILL AVENGE YOU!!!*random drunken mumbling before he falls down, smashing a table in half, snoring loudly*

For me the choice was pretty easy.
I knew I wanted to try a tank to see if Mythic's ideas do actually make them more useful in PvP than they have been in other games.
Of the various tank classes, none of the others appealed to me. Ironbreaker as a first choice was easy.
What to do with my first alt is a bit harder. Right now I am leaning toward trying a shaman.

Why Ironbreaker?
Simple nothing for me is more satisfying than sitting there getting pounded on by an entire group and not dying as they all get cut down. Im not fussed i didnt get the kb, becuase i made the kb possible.

"You’ve been told that the Ironbreaker’s gimmick is Grudge. This is a lie. The Ironbreaker’s gimmick is hitting like a freaking freight train if you so much as look the wrong way at one of his groupmates."
From a guy who played WAR at some convention
As for why I'll be playing an Ironbreaker:
1) I want to play a tank - I love tanking in other games, and tanking in PvP seems even better.
2) Dwarf women look much better in WAR than in any other game.
3) Grudge, their armor and weapons - it all looks damn cool! :D (well, maybe not some tincan hats, but the rest is)

An interesting matchup for an Ironbreaker would be the Black Guard. Similar mechanics.
Grudge versus Hate.
Dainty little posh namby pamby elf versus ale swilling mithril encased angry dwarf.

From my perception, Ironbreakers will be the must have tanks on the order side, better than Knights of the blazing sun (which sound more like a burden that helpful) and Swordmaster, they have the best history of all the dwarfs, being sent into caves and squashed places to deal with what ever is thrown at them including rat ogres and such, as well as being able to survive cave ins. As well as the picture of them in a great formation if our city is being destroyed nothing will get past them.
They also sound like an awesome pvp tank what with having to be dealt or healer or melee dps is gonna fall quickly.

Dwarfs, Gromril, Shields, Grudge.
