Pimp your horse

I got thinking about the idea of a being able to customize your horse. When you're riding around in combat, people will mostly see the armoured horse that you are riding. This means that every KotBS will look basically the same at a glance or two. So, how about being able to the customize your mount?

I was thinking choose the basic colour of the horse behind the armour, and then the colours of the armour and the highlights on the armour. You could just choose from a few appropriate colours (orange, yellow, black, etc) on each one, and possibly a few types of armour for the horse to choose from. I guess just a mini-character-creation screen in-game when you first get your mount (I'm assuming about rank 20 as there's no mounted knights on all the current screenshots of lower levels and I wouldn't expect the class to start with the mount).

Anyway, what does everyone else think to this idea?

I'd be interested in seeing different varieties of armour and breed with the horses. However it's not that high on my list of priorities. Think the detail of customisation would be dependant on whether they did anything about mounted combat.

In theory, boars would be orc mounts, wolves goblins. Not a clue on dwarfs. Dark Elves, either horses or cold ones. ( Raptors, basically. ) Empire, horses. High Elves, horses. Chaos... probably horses.

Not all the SAME horses, you understand. Just because they ride the same basic creature doesn't mean it'll look the same.

As Imperial knight i must say, no, no orc-or chaosheads on my 'saddle'. :D (bad smelling, and very ugly for human eyes, uhhhh)

A chaos followers head is just another human head is it not? Besides, skulls and other symbols of death are symbolic memorabilia to the Empire.

What I'd like to know about horses is do you have one that is actually yours? I mean is it going to be like renting one to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible or will you have one that is yours to do with as you will. If so great, and the idea of being able to customize how it looks goes beyond my highest expectations of pets as I have thus far experienced them in games.

I'd like there to be some differentiation between mounts at certain levels. That is, as soon as you can have one you can jsut about scrape enough coin together to save a mount from the glue factory and ride around on some boney nag. As you progress, better class/race options are available. Then at high levels I want all the bells and whistles, enough to say, "if I can be bothered to dismount just because you looked at me funny, you know I will cause you pain."

I'd love to see banners at level cap, coats of arms, clan colours, dangling bits of vanquished foes.

Actually having stuff you can apply to your mount rather than you to increase speed etc would also be a better idea I think, none of that gear changing when mounting pap.

I really hope this isn't just banter and when I check the WAR homepage I'll find it written somewhere that all classes will recieve mounts that they can customize!:p

Being a warriorpriest I would be looking for chaos skulls and tomes and ancient symbols of sigmar to hang from my horse so I hope they will bear that in mind. If you think about it, so long as they introduce mounts at the beginning of the game, customization should be easy to have too. They already have it for players so I would have guessed the same rules apply to mounts as to characters.. Trophies from battles, coats of arms, symbols of your race, etc.

It's things like this that will really seperate WAR from other MMOs. This is why it has my full attention because if the rumours are true, and Mythic truly listens to their players, they will get very rich and players will be vey happy :)

Customizing is everytime something fine :)
Customizing mounts must also fit to the class. So knights have battlesteeds, means armoured horses, all other classes for the empire should have different horses.
But so, also the beginnermount for a knight should be armoured or he would not be a knight.
We are not playing a game to reach the title knight, we are from beginning knights and so development to knight is finished, means we have all equipment to call us imperial knights.
We are not any paladins, warriors, or knights of any fantasygame, we are warhammer knights. So customizing must depend on class, also especially for combat... depend on possible equipment.

For decorations i would like also for horses some feathers, crests (different suns and so on), we are playing Sunknights with 'sunny' armour and not white wolves, the most untypical imperial order. I differ extremely between different orders, but also have a sight on which order we are playing, not which kind of type we or i prefer for warhammer tabletop.
I play empire since 20 years and everytime most imperial knights are only splendid in appearance or splendid or with other thoughts.... splendid, except white wolves (i also like) they are more barbarian looking, untypical...a special imperial order (all orders are something special ;) at least in appearance.)
So decorations also customizeable should be perhaps some brass, golden decorations/fitiings like different kind of 'Suns' 'burning flames' and so on (sure also the typical imperial skulltypes, here for sunknights more suns, best would be some different). Should fit to our knights and not only on preferences. Also some (metal, perhaps coloured) shields hanging down the side of horsebackarmour could be very individual and a customizeable 'fitting'. Also the shape of horsearmour could be very similar different dewcos, or some fittings could be better than designing absolutely new armourtypes.
For dead bodies hanging down the saddle i must only think about: the best warrior will not any more recognizeable because he looks like a moving corpsehill. Flat decos are everytime very easier to present. How about chaotic shrink heads??? :D

If you pull out mount options one that is almost never brought up is the CART.

Or the squire horse. What about an option being to have a squire accompany you with his horse pulling a cart full of equipment? Oh your armor is damaged? I have some repair items in my cart, lets get that fixed before we go into battle.

The options are limited to only your imagination.

Sorry Klayton but I find the idea of any kind of NPC that follows you around ALL the time with a CART highly unlikely... I'm not dismissing it as a ridiculous idea - it sounds kind of cool really - but just think about how much room a single player would take up and all the extra hassle it could cause.

Pets, ok... In some games hunter/ranger classes can have pets which are NPCs that follow you around all the time but I highly doubt a mounted knight will have a human NPy trailing behind it with a loaded cart. :???:

Someone put in a post about customizing armour that it would be cool to have a squire following you around on foot carrying a banner... This generates the same problem. Imagine how crowded PvP would be with BANNERMEN aswell as players and NPCs! And it's inconcievable for more reasons beside that too.

That's an engineer's own personal mount. he wouldn't give such an expensive creation to any mere knight.

Quite. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to open an 8th edition Empire book and read how the inventor of the mechanical horse was summarily executed for summoning daemons and imprisoning them in soulless metal. Mere steam could not move these abominations!

I would have scrolls and parchment hanging from my Horse, because I'm gonna be a WP, I think that sounds like it could be possible. But the thing is, in my mind WP and horses don't seem to go, Wp seem like the type to be walking with their own two feet, not on some unreliable animal.

Don't know where you got that idea mate. Most warrior priests ride horses, seeing as how their job involves a lot of travelling. They're not dwarfs you know.

It's the fact that they travel alot makes me feel that they enjoy being on stable ground. As I said, regardlss of Lore or anything else, in my mind, they just don't look like the type of person to ride Horses. Just my feelings about it :)

As for my own Knightly steed, should I ever play my Knight that far: Pretty common brown, black mane and tail. A rifle or a couple of pistols strapped on the back of it. Some form of banner with the colours of Wissenland would be welcome as well.
