Start up level problem - always failed

I am level 7 in Skill and am salvaging level 9 items, tried 10 level 9 items and it always failed without skill level increase. Is this a normal occurrence or i should salvage level 5 items to increase skills.

Just read a post with :

1-9, 1
10-14, 25
15-19, 50
20-24, 75
25-29, 100
30-34, 125
35-38, 150
39-40, 175?

So this means, to salvage level 13 items, i shd be at least 25 skilled ?

no, those are the levels of the fragments you get... to have a good chance to successfully salvage you should have 5x the level of the item.. so for level 9 items you should have 45 skill, for level 13 items you should have 65 skill etc

From my experience, you will never fail as long as your salvaging skill is at least 5x the level of the item you are salvaging. I.E you need salvaging 60 to safely salvage level 12 items.
