Hello fellow WPs,
I hope Orock wont mind i stole this thread idea from him. Nice one man. Basically im asking how do you want to specialize your Warrior Priest? For clarity i will suggest the following areas:
more damage potential
greater healing output
more solid defense
enhanced buffing/support characteristics
im not saying these are set in stone, just a general guideline to find out how each warrior of Sigmar thinks its best to serve him. the following is my idea, from it you will gather i will go two ways, damage potential and stronger buffing capabilities. of course this means i wont be as tough as someone who went all out defense, or heal as well as someone who went all out healing. we are hybrids anyway aren't we?
Sigmar's Deadliest Weapon
nice topic Orock!
i want people to see me and run away. just run, not ask "him?, no way!" how would this be possible? not through mad dps skillz. a nice mix of offensive and buffing capabilities. im the kind of guy who thinks the best defense is an overwhelming and well co-ordinated offense. a blitzkrieg guy if you will. i want the enemy to realize that wherever i go, my army of badass witch-hunters, engineers and bright wizard mercenary psychos follows. i like to be the engine of war, the hammer of retribution, the guy who chases his enemy down the darkest valley, going on even when people have grown tired. basically, healing them when they are low hp, buffing them to get those crits in, and stunning the crap out of chaos and their elven and orcish peons, not to mention raining down the thunder of Sigmar's vengeance upon their hapless souls.
i try and play the bastion every ally can depend on. that unkillable that every enemy cant stand.need a heal? sure. need a class-specific buff? no need to ask. that magus giving you a hard time? no worries, i'll take care of him. does that chosen look scary? here's a couple of buffs to make you stronger. I am Sigmar's true son, and righteous representative, the minions and lords of chaos shall see my name and flee; in me they will know the meaning of fear.
suggestions more than welcome from other servants of Sigmar and the Empire.
Thank you.

Fun topic. Thanks to Orock and you. ;)
Here's my plan:
There is a very strong chance I'll be spending most of this game either soloing, or trioing with both my girlfriend and a close mutual friend of ours (if they decide to play). The three of us have an awesome resume in terms of -kicking in both pve and pvp in past MMOs. The ladyfriend, especially, pwnz face.
Anyway, because the three of us tend to be resourceful in holding our own in combat, I don't think I'll need to emphasize very much in my healing. I'll be healing, for sure, but we can definitely get by with less.
I'll be using my tactics and equipment to push my buffing abilities, defense, and melee as much as possible. Hopefully this will round me out so I'm pretty middle-road in terms of a fighter, and will have some awesome buffs to make sure the three of us are at the top of our game. The added defense, especially, will ensure I can last longer in the fight to keep the heals coming. Having to sacrifice healing power will mean I'll need to be extra alert on the cast. This is fine, though; I hate over-healing.
Ideally I will be the bastion of Sigmar's will that will keep my allies in the fight, as well as being able to physically contribute to the battle with my hammer.
God dammit, as if I wasn't excited enough already. Thanks a lot. ;)

Since I do enjoy all aspects of a game including soloing once in a while I sincerly hope that you will be allowed a certain flexibility in the game.
Meaning that if I know that today I will be playing with my guild I am going to pick mostly healing/supporting/survival skills.
If I know that tomorrow I will be playing alone I am going to pick mostly damaging/debuffing skills to be more effective in solo-play.
Now I do not know how gear and stats are effecting the warrior priest but I really really hope that unlike the wow-healers he will be able to focus on just a few stats.
For example, instead of a warhammer with +xx healing and a warhammer with +xx damage I'd like a warhammer with +xx sigmar ownage and how you use it is entirely up to the player and the spells which he uses. (which you hopefully can swap without much penalty.)
If you do not have this flexibility and/or you must spend a ridiculous amount of time obtaining 3-4 sets to perform well in every function than I am going to max him out as healer but will be twinking rather fast.

The Warrior Priest strikes up against those wretched Chaos creatures with Holy Might and heals his companions with the words of the Light, basicly this means that I'll need protection/DPS/Healing power in order to help my fellow peacekeepers.
I'd specialize in DPS and Healing power, that way I'll be able to keep them (and myself) alive, and I'd be able to do righteous damage on those green (d)orcs.

Playing a support class in a team probably means I want to prioritize.
1) Survivability by any means possible, whether outright mitigating the damage, or healing the damage.
2) Healing power in any way possible, whether that be more righteous fury generation or just straight up powerful heals.
3) Utility.
4) Damage.

Playing a support class means getting yelled at when things go horribly wrong.:o
My playstyle will mean finding a balance between offense and healing/buffing. I want to hold my own and I want to support my team. Playing to defense, in my opinion, is not in the spirit of the Warrior Priest ideal.
There should be a good amount of variety and all the different 'builds' will be able to bring something to the table. At least we will not have to choose between PvE and PvP builds in this game.

Damn your anti-rant underlining clause.
In either case, yes support classes catch a lot of flak, probably because they are so pivotal in PvP. I do realize playing defensively isn't the spirit of the WP ideal, but it's in the spirit of support classes in my opinion.

i can see everyone wants their WP to have a different flavor. i think in the spirit of the WP, the main thing people need us for, (in theory) both in lore and gameplay is to inspire and strengthen them (think Luthor). in other words either through blessings, healing or feats of combat, whichever we may be most proficient at. at least thats how i see my WP, who i plan to specialize in my own way.
but i still cant seem to get an image out of my head. a WP running toward an army of chaos, with a bunch of charging knights on horseback some distance behind him (cant remember the video).
i thought to myself, medium armor, no helmet, no horse, no fear, i LIKE THIS GUY.
Why cant i go into Cryo-sleep and wake up on the release date?

Flexibility shud be the key word for wp ....
but iam actually pretty happy from the way they have come out with them =D
if they actually give a few more melee abilities to generate rhiteous fury..that would be great :D
as brother sonofsigmar says....
NO fear....
ps: watch the mark of chaos intro video and ull know our true nature =D

Agreed, but to a point.
I think we'll have to decide between the two fields of our main two fields... confused? Let me explain:
Main two fields: Melee + Support
Melee: -DPS; how fast we kill our enemies
-Survivabilty; how long we survive under pressure
Support: -Healing; how effective our heals are
-Buffing; how effectibe our buffs are
I'm likely gonna go DPS/Healing for the most part, like heavyhebrew, but, like balls says, I wanna be balanced, hopefully managing a 60%-40% split between DPS/Heal - Survive/Buff. In short, I wanna kick major with my attacks and keep myself alive with heals, while still being fully capable of surviving a little while w/o heals and having some decent buffs. :)
P.S. If I ever find myself playing solo for a while, I'll likely go DPS/Buff so I can REALLY mow them chaos punks down.

This was precisely my idea, I asked myself why would people need me in their groups? or rather, what was my specialty as a WP? BUFFING. Im kinda leaning toward that rather than healing too much.
Not that I would negelct my duties as a healer, but I figured in a large war effort, there would be plenty of runepriests and archmages around who can heal from a safe distance. thus i would pack whatever tactics and morale abilities i have into buffing and damage enhancement. this would mean if i had a witch-hunter friend who hits for X damage unbuffed, a fellow WP could buff him to 3X damage per hit. But since im mad specialized in buffing, i could buff him to 5X. same for ironbreakers with 1.5X armor or whatever.
which means, after everyone is buffed to immortality, i have nothing else to do but smack away and toss the occasional heal.

Hmm... good point there brother. I think I might go with DPS/Buff in groups too.
The best way to shut people up when they start ragging on you about your low dps as a WP is to buff yourself to perfection and leave him high and dry to die! Mwahahahahaha! :p

Leave them high and dry, no actualy I just will stop trying to defend him from all the ravening ranged DPS classes that want to kill him :P

Actualy i'm being a dwarf hammerer, and i'm commenting on the healer that decides he doesn't want to heal me :P
But yes I did think it was good, oh and did you see the latest podcast?
Appearantly the all the healers do the same ammount of dmg but in different ways and the all wear the same armor

Lol, we've had this discussion already. I'll look at it again, but I think you're misinterpreting what they said.

Also, not that in the podcast the man says "these archetypes are basic guidelines that we will use, and that within each career there will be a great deal of variety and specialization."
Obviously, we're not gonna be the same.

I intend to play on a RP server for once, so this topic is actually pretty important to me. I'll be playing with a friend of mine who will be a Witch Hunter, and we plan on using the two classes to form a kind of opposition of personalities to make things interesting. His Witch Hunter will be the typical religious zealot, rooting out chaos with fanatical devotion, putting all common sense and compassion to the wind.
My WP, however, will be the opposite of this. His take on faith is that its not all about "doing" things for Sigmar, like smiting orcs and Chosen baddies. Sure, thats a part of the job, but thats not what its "about". Its about the people, and individual faith in the face of Chaos that Sigmar is looking for in his followers.
So my WP will be a badass mofo who wields a mace and a shield. A shield to defend the weak, and a mace to smash over the head of the people who are harassing them. But his goal is to lead by example and be a presence in battle that inspires people in their faith, and encourages them to rage against the dying of the light.
Thats what faith is about, IMO. Hope in the face of despair and darkness.

Being in a mostly support character mindset since that other game most of us played but got bored with, I hope the WP (if I roll one, undecided between it and the runepriest) will allow for a strong solo experience.
I hope I'll be able to find a nice hybrid spec that works well in groups and solo, a sort of holy shock build I came to love in that other game with that character that sounded similar lol. Holy shock (40/0/21), altough considered to be a fun build more than anything, was about being able to heal in a pinch, having a lot of survivability but if anyone underestimated you or said 'hey that guy can only heal" then they would feel the power of the spelldamage set I always was wearing.
So I hope the WP will allow me to heal quite well but also allow me to go toe to toe with most (or all? one can dream) classes without having to run away most of the time behind my hammerer or ironbreaker friends, simply because the dps when specced mostly for healing is laughable.
I think that WAR will make the WP great though, from what I've read they are definitly moving in the right direction with all the support classes.

When I play support I tend to play a more defensive role. As Asuril said, one might have to sacrifice healing power/efficiency, however, the ability to take a good hard beating could end up serving you and your comrades better in the long run.
Although, when push comes to shove It doesn't matter how you specialise anyway. For the bloody handed god will claim your soul in the end

If i was to specialize my warrior-priest i would like to make him a damage character because of my preferred choice. Best warrior-priest for damage is that obviouslly does damage but has a little spot heals. Your a warrior-priest that makes you a hybrid 1/2 and 1/2 embrace feel it. However there will be a compromise so know that you cant be the best damage dealing class then someone else not even the best healing unless you were to lose your healing points/damage points and put more into your career damage/healing mastery.
All in all its my choice of preference and what i would suggest.
