Question about Magic Essences

So I just recently picked up salvaging and started breaking down items to get my TM up. My TM is at 45 currently and my salvage is at 140. I've been breaking down renown gear and getting a crap ton of fragments as well as these other stacks of salvaging items that say if I salvage 5-10 of them they turn into magic essence. However when I go to salvage them .. nothing happens ><

Am I doing something wrong? Bugged? Wtf is the deal?

5 greens produce a blue.

heh, in your pre- edited post you mentioned 5 blues for a purple.
Ive never been able to combine blue for anything better, does this actually work? if so is it only on the higher end blue essence?

You can't make purple essence from all I know (and you don't need to).

200 crafting Essence are still blue
