View Full Version : How do you feel about Dark Elves so far?

With the announcement of the classes people are going to have mixed feelings. I'm curious how many people like and dislike what Mythic has done so far.
There of course will always be decisions that dissipoint. But dangit I think were missing the whole idea. It doesn't matter what the classes are. We are still going to own those dang High Elves along with the Empire and the Dwarves! We are DE's dangit and we will own regardless of class 8-)
And on another note there will be expansions so hold out for those classes that were left out!

IMO, Mythic did a pretty good at them, but I'm a true disciple of Tzeentch, so I won't be playing Dark Elves any time soon.
For the ones that wanted cold one knights as tanks well . . then mythic would have chosen harpys as melee dps ...

Bitterly disappointed with both choices. Not sure if I can stomach it enough to play DE or the game. Probably will try to play BG when my guild beta spot comes open and when they are in the game to be played to see if its worth it.

I got my Black Guard so I'm most certainly going to be playing an elf come release. Couldn't be happier with the tank choice :D:D:D

Before, none of the destruction careers were as appealing to me compared to most of the order careers, but after seeing the concept art for Blackguard...I had to change my under shorts ill tell you that much. ;)

I had high hopes for the Dark Elves. None of the other careers really caught my interest besides the Orc Choppa. I was pretty enthusiastic about playing WAR, but if I am honest I have to admit that the Elf classes have put a damper on my enthusiasm.
I'm happy overall with the way things are shaping up, would have preferred corsairs but WEs were probably the better choice. Can't wait to play a BG, the art looks awesome.

I'll get to play a Black Guard as I had hoped. And the Witch Elves look cool and sound interesting.

I'm not too fond of the "Black Guard" armor and was hoping that they had true COK in the game but if they do them right in regards to them being a "true" tanking class (something I don't think Witch Elves will be) I will be happy.
One thing that would really tick me off and bother me with this game and I am seriously thinking about it now is if "Witch Elves" with the skimpy clothing they wear has a better AC-DC/mitigation than me, while in full plate (exception warding specials). I will be soreley mad about it (they can have a better DPS selection as that won't be my job).

I'm happy also with the Dark Elves. I'd prefer to play a HE, but it depends whether my guild rolls Order or Destruction.
Oh, and "Up with the cursed Asur!"

Well I was hoping for both classes so quite happy so far. They still leave the horribly ambiguous question of support and ranged DPS unanswered but Witch Elves are a lock in the DPS slot so I am mucho happy. And I had always hoped even if I didn't expect them to do Black Guard so pleasantly surprised there... interesting though that the picture for them is holding a sword vs. a halberd. Gonna be really interesting seeing how they turn out. Yep two thumbs up so far. :D
I'm a bit disappointed with the battle being all on Ulthuan, not because it's not a fitting setting in my opinion, but rather because we won't get to see any Naggaroth :- /
Also the choice for the High Elven healer class made me a bit uneasy, because I'm afraid they'll do the same with the sorceress.

I'm a bit disappointed. I'v been gone for quite some time and decided to check back on any news. To my surprise, several Elf classes have announced, which I was looking forward to seeing. Sadly, Witches are what will kill my DE experience. So much so, that I'm considering going over to Order and playing a HE instead, just to beat on them.
DE are already getting more popular just by this single class, and the forum views and posts are 3 times that more than the HE. I would of loved to play as a DE, but I hate being on the over populated side, and enjoy fighting for the weaker side. I think HE will probably be pretty fun anyway..

I really can't answer, I'm happy with those classes, but in the meantime I'm still worried because I haven't seen yet the class that suit me...
I wanted a carer with a rogue look, still very iconic to me for the darkelves,
so my last hopes are for the Shades as range DPS, or corsair, but I prefer Shades...
If there is no pure vicious range DPS with roguish look, I don't really know if I will even play this game.
That's why I can't stand not knowing the last classes...

I am seriously considering if I do play a Black Guard to follow the lore and not allow a WE to join my group unless its someone in my guild or a friend from another game. I fully expect the zones to packed with ZOMG BOOBZ! players and if I follow the lore the only class allowed to group with Witch Elves are Assassns. That way I would not only be following lore but I would be spared the "hey guyz watch this emote, she flashes the group if you turn the camera the right way!" kind of players in the world.
The good ol ignore list will be full opening day if it should all be at its worst. Hopefully I can jump ahead of the pack with a good bit of leveling.

Well, I absoloutley love the black guards, they look purly awsome and by all means are looking great. Though i wish they would follow the "real" TT black guards look a bit more than they have done, regardless that they still look awsome though even if they don't look alot like "real" black guards
Im not very happy with the witch elves, though i was 90% certain that they were in. Though I will play dark elves regardless of them anyway. And since i will play on a RP server, i expect to avoid the most of all the lollers that likes to look on skimpy elfs. Those that I don't avoid I will ignore.
Though it do worries me a bit that the dark elves will probably be overplayed to some degrade beacuse of witch elves. Anyway, overall im happy with the dark elves, I just hope that they won't be overplayed

This is actually a good idea. Warhammer is a rich setting that would be fun to RP in. I just might roll my Black Guard on a RP server and give it a shot. Might be worth it just for slightly more mature playerbase. You don't even have to be super in character all the time as long as you don't go around saying things that break immersion or otherwise act stupid.

You echo some of my feelings on how the Elves turned out. In every game I've played I usually start out as a mage type character. I'm a bit sick of it now and with WAR I wanted to start out as a melee class. Witch Elves basically killed most of the urges I had to play Dark Elves and the Choppa is the main thing keeping me interested in the Destruction side now.
I am almost hoping the majority of my friends and guild will want to play Order now. I find the Swordmaster very appealing and the thought of killing Witch Elves is very attractive to me. Although, I am not entirely convinced that Order will be the underpopulated side. There are too many factors involved to reliably predict which side is going to be overpopulated and which will be the underdog.
I am seriously considering if I do play a Black Guard to follow the lore and not allow a WE to join my group unless its someone in my guild or a friend from another game. I understand you are disappointed by Witch Elves, but I think it is a bad idea to artificially limit your groups by excluding certain classes based on personal feelings. If the person is an , annoying, sucks or a combination thereof then that's definitely grounds not to expose yourself or your friends to them. Not every person that plays a Witch Elf is going to be like that though.
That said, I also expect Witch Elves to be one of the most popular classes destruction side. I always laughed in WoW whenever I did Warsong with my horde friends and every game had at least 5 Night Elf hunters and/or rogues. Sad thing is I am not even exaggerating those numbers. I think the record was 9 hunters and 1 paladin.
Anyways, if I do end up going Dark Elf I plan on getting out of the Elf lands as soon as possible. I imagine on release the majority of the people will stick to their starting lands, so, that should limit my interaction with those type of people.

I fully intend to play on one IF they include them. Even if they don't there is usually a server in every game thats more RP friendly then others. I hope to catch the complete essences of what a Witch Elf is.. cold, heartless, and thoroughly evil.

I didn't even consider the possibility of them not including RP servers. If would be foolish of them not to include at least one at release to steal some of the roleplaying crowd from the competition :)
But you never know I suppose.

I need to wait an see the total picture of all the classes and how close or far off Mythic has gone in relation to lore to DE's. Right now am going with Greenskins after they butchered Chaos. If DE's stick close to lore and you don't see the same distortion of lore as was done with Chaos then I'll go DE instead of GreenSkin. Visually they look awesome though IMHO.
Let me change my vote from unhappy to bitterly disappointed. What I've seen so far of Witch Elves sucks big time.
Can't tell yet if I'm going to play something else though, since I was hoping for the Sorceress as ranged dps the whole time anyway.

Heh, I can relate to that sentiment.
When I first saw the Witch elf in her fighting stance I was like, 'Oh cool I'm playing that!'
Then when they started talking about the mechanics I was just like... 'never mind.'

why are you repeating yourself? you have made your depressing point 3 times now? You should play the game based on the fact that you love warhammer and its IP not because they dont have 2 of YOUR favorite classes. though its completely up to you and no one elses. Just think you could be a little less pesemistic when theres 5 other races and 20 other classes. im SURe you can find something that you could enjoy.

I'm happy. Witch Elves and Black Guard are two very iconic classes for dark elves in the tabletop game. I was still hoping for a Cold One Knight, but there are always expansions for that.
Not a big fan of using poisons, but the Witch Elves are going to be deadly. I also have a feeling that the Witch Elves will be rather hard to play, and alot of people will be turned off when a Sword Master kicks the crap outta them on the field if not played smart.
Witch Elves are gonna be squishy. And believe me there will be no sneaking around with that armor on. So as soon as their fishbelly white skin is seen you can bet the ranged dps will pick her off like *snap* that

I just made a quick poll at the time to see what people were feeling. I'll probably make another one once the remaining classes are announced and add more options. There are a couple things I would change about this one if I remade it.

I don't see Witch Elves as being any more challenging to play than the other careers. The people who suck will get the crap kicked out of them no matter which class they play. Although, I am curious if the tank archetype will typically beat the melee dps archetype in a fight assuming all factors are relatively equal.

After seeing some of their mechanics in that Swordmaster/Witch Elf video you can bet I'm going to put any Witch Elf I fight against in combat asap. If Witch Elves don't have a way to close distance real fast then I think it will be a major pain to get their out of combat opening attack off most of the time. If taunt puts people in combat when it lands then I think an on-the-ball tank would royally screw over Witch Elf damage; no opening attack and reduced damage against everyone but the guy in tons of armor.
Your point?

As I understand it that's how it's being designed. Tanks are strong against melee dps, melee dps is strong against ranged, ranged is strong against tanks.
In a one-on-one fight, all else being equal, I'd expect the Witch to put up a good fight, but the tank to win in the end. Now two witches against a tank on the other hand... ;)

As I understand it melee classes are getting a sprint skill to quickly close the distance with ranged classes. Also, I tihnk that's where the whole positional attacks come in... part of the trick in playing melee dps classes seems to be trying to be the one to decide when combat starts.
Either way, I think it'll be a lot of fun. :)

me too, i can't believe the pessimists around here.
War has 6 races, and a total of 24 careers.
you can whine all you want, but if you try, you'll find a class that you like.
however, instead of looking good at which class looks a fun class to you, everyone is mocking and crying in a corner:rolleyes:

Mixed feelings too bud. Getting a bit jumpy, and DE continuity is pretty important to me. I hope the other classes playable by DE will suck, because I feel like I have to play a WE now that I know they are playable. Going insane hoping for a beta key.. /wrists :P

Those spikes on the Black Guards armor would certanly be impractical in a real battle. Good thing this is a fantasy game. But I guess you want the heavy armor in this game look dull and uninteresting. Cant say I agree with you.
I dont think anyone can compare platemail armor for females that consists of a metal thong and bra with the ornamental armor of the BG.

Yeah, hopefully all classes will be able to put up a fight regardless of who they square off against. I definitely expect 2 on 1 fights to heavily favor the side with two.

Yep, playing melee classes in pvp can be very tricky and frustrating at times. Fortunately Mythic is giving lots of anti-cc and a lot of abilities to close combat, which I like. They've mentioned wire-work a few times when talking about Elves. I wonder if we will see more abilities involving jumps and leaps for the Elves in regards to closing and escaping combat, like Agile Escape.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion just like you are entitled to yours. There are people, like Bulwyf, who have been playing Warhammer almost as long as I have been alive. I think it's understandable for them to be upset when a unit they've loved for years doesn't make it in a game of this magnitude. One thing I did find funny about your post is the one person you quoted and agreed with is the only person I know of who has said she wouldn't play the game if a certain class wasn't playable on release.

I had been hoping that the Witch Elves would remain NPCs. Not only because I think they are more ominous that way, but also because I fear how players will behave with them -- considering how the somewhat cartoon, GPU-light style is bound to attract a younger-minded audience than something darker and more technologically progressive.
That said, I do like how the Witch Elves are being handled. I am especially happy that they are lithe and graceful rather than voluptuous and humanlike. The cinematic initially had me worried that wouldn't be the case.
The Black Guard... well, as with the Hammerer, I think it's regretful to make anyone's 'personal guard' playable if they are not going to actually be their personal guard. I would have preferred the Executioner, especially because I think it makes a poignantly dark mockery of the Swordmaster.
Ultimately, I voted 'Unhappy with DE but will still give them a shot.'
