View Full Version : More people = Pointless posts

Is it just me or are these forums starting to be watered down with more people? A few months ago I would say that %90 of the posts were all extremely productive and worthwhile to the advancement and developement of WAR. Now that these forums have exploded in population though it seems that that statistic has reversed and I find very very few productive posts anymore. I pretty much only read them every once in a while out of boredom now. Most are pointless and/or redundant now. Or is it just me?

You mean like this one?

The main reason threads may become less productive is because there is very little information about WAR that has not been coverered in threads now. After each newsletter and coming up to E3, threads will become even more productive than they are now.
Just be patient and do not resort to threads like these for starters! ;)

Everyone take a deep breath. Go outside. Enjoy the real life. With so much of existing information already being disseminated, it's difficult to come up with really unique topics of discussion without getting into this is right, and that is wrong posts. That said, as more information is released there will be more to talk about. I think we'll hopefully have more to talk about very soon actually. Not to mention, E3 is around the corner.

In terms of the quality of posts. The best thing a person can do is to contribute. Everyone who participates influeinces the quality.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. It has gotten to the point where I can only read the threads made by people I know from the old forums, which is pretty sad. But I guess all I can say is look up one post.

I think one problem too with having such a big amount of posts and posters is that it will quickly become a too big picture for the developers to view and get a grip of, as well as things being rehashed in a slightly different way and semi-meaningless topics arising. With this in mind it would perhaps be of interest to make sort of an "Overview" thread in which the administrators/mods can detail the areas/topics that have been discussed by the community and what conclusions have been reached and what important points and issues have been raised. A big job, but a good proposal if you ask me. Not only the developers could make use of such an extensive overview but it could also be used as a waypoint to further more discussions.

Good idea. But loads of work.

As a relative newcomer to this particular forum, I would say that it is still a very good community. The posts I see being made are almost always on topic, and the topics being discussed are almost always ones that are germane to the Warhammer game or storyline in some way.

I personally would like it if more people for MMO's visited and participated in some forum for the game, so they can both keep abreast of current topics of interest and (in some cases) potential problems. New voices in the community are not always a bad thing either. When someone new comes to the forum and is interested in the game, wants to know more about it and has questions, it is actually in our bests interest as a community to try and respond to them as best as we can, even if the questions/topics have come up before.

I have been in forum communities (guild forums usually) where almost no-one posted anything at all, it was quite depressing actually to visit the forums and see that no-one had replied to someones question or post from a few days ago.

If the forum community continues to grow however, it does make more work for the moderators, as it would be a true shame if things ever got quite out of hand to approach the level of the World of Warcraft forums. Reading those can be quite amusing, as you really cannot do much but laugh at all the forum Trolls and flamers and the like who are grasping at attention. The sheer amount of negative commentary is a bit of a turnoff for those forums though. Ahh well, live and learn.

But so far things on this particular forum seem to be doing fairly well. As it is fan run, the people behind it (and the moderators and such) are doing a pretty good job... and because they are fans of the upcoming game like the rest of us are, they can post about what they think to their hearts content as well. That in of itself is always a plus for fan-run forums.

Even when most posts were good, I seldom ventured to threads that didn't involve people I knew, besides on the off-topic forum.

No one says you have to read them. Of course, when it comes to the WAR section, I can understand too much off-topicness can be annoying, but the mods do what they can.

My advice: make good posts yourself. Let the others do what they do. Just make sure no one can point their finger at you. ;)

Well I'd think a large part of what this community forum is about is giving the developers our thoughts. Especially as they seem to be coming here and looking in every now and then it would be foolish not to convey our views, hopes and wants to them. But if we expect them to actually give take in the majority of out ideas for processing I think they need to be made aware of what they are and what has already been discussed.

It needn't be the job of one man or indeed woman. Quite simply put you could put down areas and have people post an "overview" of that topic. For instance organised like this:

*Guilds (this would be the overall topic) - From here the person charged (or charging himself/herself) with the job would go on and reference the different sub-topics in that perticular field. For example:

-Usage of the term guild. Views, pro's and con's
-Single race guilds, Views, pro's and con's
-Functions. What functions could a guild have. Views, pro's and con's.

After such a suitable list had been composed it would be far easier for the admins/mods to add to these topics or subtract from them once new ideas come up or new information is given about the actual way the game is heading.
