I made all the links direct links so you don't have to deal with that java popup image viewer thing they've got running over there. Shield 1 is amazing. Almost makes me wish Swordmasters could use shields. >.>

Damn those shields are cool. And the main city gates are freaking awesome. High Elves forever.

Well, the shields are most likely for the Swordmasters. I know, that lorewise and so on, they only use their swords, but they are the tank class, and will (most likely) need to use a shield in some situations.

To me it looked like they were just humans in elf armor... for the most part :(

everything looks very High elvish which it is supposed to be like but my favorite things was the HIGH 2 staff and the hydra thing

edit: the staff shows magic and the hydra well thats just really cool

I've got to salute the guy who did the Elven Gates art, as it's really quite magnificent. If they even come close to replicating that in game, I'll be impressed.

On second thought.. I just looked at DE concept art and it looks more striking and more creative.

I s'pose it seems more creative, because High Elves, though different from other elves in fiction, tend to have similar architecture. I'm partial to both, but the over abundance of spiky bits makes me dislike Dark Elves more.

To me, the black, blues, and purples are what I really find nice about the Dark Elves.

Swordmasters do not use shields. They use SWORDS and ONLY SWORDS. Tank class or no, they will not use shields. Ever. Period.

If they do, I will shove a hot poker up Mythic's bum.

Those shields will probably be for NPCs.

Anyways, on topic, those pics are really cool. I love the city gates, and from what I've seen of in-game footage, they've done a pretty good job of it.

I hope you are indeed right, though I suspect you might not be. If I remember correctly, Black Orcs aren't depicted as using shields either, yet lo and behold: In WAR they are a tank class and they have shields.

The bottom line is, that Swordmasters, being the tank class, probably will get shields. I'm not saying I like it, but I think they will. Whether you use them or not, is of course up to you.

They have already said that the Swordmaster won't be relying on his armor to protect himself, but rather his abilities, like Wall of Darting Steel(Blocks incoming projectiles and those trying to walking through "will just be cut to ribbons") :cool:

While I sincerely hope your right, who else would use shields? Maybe NPCs. But the giant sword on shield 1 suggests swordmaster.

Lothern Seaguard, Spearmen, Silver Helms and Dragon Princes all use shields. I'd say those shields are for these NPCs. The Shield with a Sword on it looks to me more like a Silver Helm would use it, or a HE Hero of some kind.

Just to add a point of information:

The DE's get shield concept art even though the Halberd normally wouldn't allow for the use of a shield.

I'm just saying. Yeah, it's strange to see an Elf wearing that type of armour. It is very Anglo-Saxon, but it is important to remember that in mediaeval times it was only so designed to accomodate for everything from a fit man to a fat man to a woman's breasts. I wouldn't think that would be a factor here.

Swordmasters prefer their greatswords, but lore wise they could use shields if they so choose. They are trained to use all kinds of weapons and equipment. What can I say, after spending hundreds of years perfecting your skill with a greatsword, you might want to try and get good at something else too just for a change of pace:D

The swords blackguards carry are status symbols I believe, and are not normally used in combat.

But seeing as how swordmasters train for decades in how to use all sorts of weapons, I see no reason why they wouldn't pick up some sword/shield techniques.
