Well, first off, let me just say that the current edition of the High Elves TT army book contains one of the most beautifully written army introductions out of any of the army books. Any High Elf fans who do not know allot about the High Elves should really check out this finely written introduction to a fascinating people, the High Elves.

Having said that, my favorite moment has got to be Aenarion's battle with 4 greater daemons of Chaos. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Aenarion, he was the first High Elven Pheonix King. Over his lifetime he essentially became the most powerful Elf. His power was likened to that more of a god than an Elf. When Chaos threatened to overrun all of the known world, it was Aenarion and his dragon who were primarily responsible for preventing Chaos from succeeding.

OK its not 100% HE but in the lastest storm of chaos when they presented Valten with Althandin, a noble guesture that means I don't buy into the whole elf hate thing anymore

When Tyrion killed Malekith's personal champion, Urian Poisonblade, in single combat. Urian was trained by the Dark Elven Assassins, and said to know more 10.000 ways to kill an opponent, amd 10.000 more ways to cripple them and leave them at his mercy :p. At the Battle of Finuval Plain, he challenged the best High Elven warriors to fight him, and he killed Arhailen of Yvresse and Korhian Ironglaive, Captain of the White Lions, cutting them both down as if they were children. He then fought Tyrion for over an hour, neither being able to end the life of the opponent. Until Tyrion slipped and fell heavily to the ground, with Urian leaping over him with his sword held high, with Tyrion then thrusting the sword into Urian's heart, with his last words being "The simplest of tricks... You killed me with the simplest of tricks..."

This story seems to be more of a exaggeration of the true character, much like sigmar's story, but all good stories in warhammer are exaggerated, especially the racials iconic heros.

I'd go with Alith Anar's epic raid of Naggaroth. Take that, Druchii!

I'm not familiar with this story. Is it in the army book? Where could I find it?

Eltharion's near-death. By all rights, he was dead, and if for some reason you held on to the hope he'd make it, he was blind and heavily wounded. At this point, his father told him that his home was in danger, and then he willed himself back to life, and saved everyone from anarmy of goblins all alone. Exaggerated as it is, whatever story it was that became this is still amazing.

I only read the fan version...somewhere on Asur.org. Alith Anar's been out of the game for a while, and is only coming back in in 7th Edition.

I concur.

My 2nd favorite would have to be Alith Anar's entire backround/story. Pinning hundreds of Druchii bodies to a cliff to warn them not to piss off the Asur = cool.

As mentioned, Aenarion's conflict with the Greater Daemons of Chaos is definitely somewhere up there. That artwork of him coming into conflict with the Keeper of Secrets looks fantastic, and has been recaptured unbelievably well as a miniature here (http://www.games-workshop.es/comunidad/images/games_day/gd06/todas/cat07_01g.jpg), from a Games Day in Spain.

I'd also say a moment in High Elven lore which deserves honourable mention is when Eltharion wounded Malekith, the Witch King, in single combat. "A feat that no mortal had ever achieved." Ever. "While only suffering a flesh wound, Malekith is now wary of Eltharion's renewed resolve."

How do you think past lore will play out in game play beyond merely fighting named characters from the lore?

My favorite peice of lore was actually a write-up from the HE army book... like 2 editions of it ago when Tyrion model first came out (I think).

It wasn't supremely well written, but it shows Tyrion at a battle where the Keeper of Secrets that's been hounding his line for generations was leading a horde of chaos and dark elves over the Blighted Isle. He slays the demon, and then goes to the alter of Khaine, where he saw the Sword of Khaine. Now, supposedly the weapon looks different for whoever gazes upon it, but Tyrion saw a sword like Aenarion. The weapon whispered to him, taunted him with how the elves were dying and he could save them by taking the sword. He actually agreed with its accessments, but realized what kind of misery would be brought by drawing the blade again. So with it calling to him, he turns his back on it and walks away. IMO, that shows him as a hero even greater than Aenarion.

Aenarion's battle with the 4 demons ranks a very, very close 2nd. Just the idea behind that fight is cool.

Finally, the story of how the White Lions became the bodyguard for the Phoenix king.

That's very cool indeed. He was able to out-weigh the repercussions, and in a way say, "Perhaps all true, but how would an inevitable corruption help?" Not only that, but it sounds like he didn't even have as many people as Aenarion did pleading with him not to use it; that's willpower. :D

I'm a little confused... what is so wrong with using this sword of Khaine?

It corrupts the soul and makes one mad with a lust for war, war, war, WAR!

Well, when you become the physical embodiment of Khaine, the God of War (in the High Elves' eyes), that tends to happen. :p

Think we'll be able to see the "sword" and if we do, will it be different for each of us? More so, will there be quests surrounding it? Not to destroy it nor pull it out, but try, or maybe kill some powerful NPC that's trying to pull it out?

Is there any other good stories within Warhammer about the Sword of Khaine, before or after Aenarion? Like, someone "trying" to pull it out, or destroy it, or have used it before?

All Dark Elf characters receive a sword of Khaine with a randomly generated graphic upon completion of a simple quest at level 5. It is the best weapon in the game.

Upon the server detecting that said Dark elf character has sword, a virus is sent to their computer which recursively deletes their hard drive all the while an annoying 14 year old voice screams "pwned" at full volume from their speakers until delete is completed.

Not sure which, but one of the Phoenix kings after Aenarion was said to have gone to the alter to gaze upon the sword, telling his bodyguard to stay back. If I remember correctly, there are two beliefs of what happened next. A dark elf assassin jumped out and killed the king as he looked upon the sword, or the other story is that he was reaching for the blade himself, and rather than risk the doom and corruption of the blade his own bodyguard cut him down before he could lay a hand on it.

Eltharion:
The Goblin Invasion
During a raid on Naggaroth, Eltharion was stabbed by a Witch Elf's poisoned blade. As he lay dying he was visited by the apparition of his dead father, who brought terrible news. Grom the Paunch, the infamous goblin warlord from the Old World had landed on Ulthuan itself and brought a huge greenskin army to attack Tor Yvresse. Many Elves, including most of Eltharion's family, had been slaughtered during the greenskin advance. With sheer will-power, Eltharion dragged himself back from the brink of death and returned to Tor Yvresse atop his griffon, Stormwing.

In Tor Yvresse, the goblin's siege was underway. At the peak of the battle, the Warden of Tor Yvresse was slain by the Grom's shaman Black Tooth in a magical duel. Just as the city walls were breached, Eltharion reached the city. The goblins swarmed into the city and threatened to overwhelm the beleaguered defenders. Eltharion rallied the Elves and fought back with a ferocity borne of wild fury and grief. Eltharion slew Black Tooth in single combat, and the Elven counter-attack dealt a fatal blow to the goblins. With his cause lost, Grom disappeared and was never heard of again. In the aftermath Eltharion was appointed as the new Warden of Tor Yvresse. Due to the loss of his entire family and the devastation of his land, Eltharion became known as 'The Grim'.

Defeat by the Malekith the Witch King
Many years after the battle at Tor Yresse, Malekith led a Dark Elf invasion on Ulthuan to reclaim the Shadowlands. When he heard of the news of the invasion, Eltharion led an Elf army to the ancient ruins of Anlec, where the Dark Elves were amassing their armies. Eltharion's army was defeated, and in desperation he challenged Malekith to single combat. Malekith bested him with sorcery without difficulty. After Eltharion's capture and refusal to swear allegiance to the Witch King, the survivors of his army were all beheaded by the Executioners that had accompanied Malekith. Eltharion was taken back to Naggaroth, where he was blinded and tortured. Eventually Malekith had him returned back to Lothern alive, as a warning to the High Elves.

Blade Reforged
Soon after his return, Eltharion was sent to the Tower of Hoeth to recover. The master of Hoeth, Belannaer, trained Eltharion in the ways of the Swordmasters of Hoeth. Eltharion was a skilled student and learnt quickly, in time matching Belannaer himself in single combat. However, his mental wounds remained unhealed. Many months later, Belannaer gave Eltharion command of a Swordmasters contingent to aid the Everqueen: Malekith's newest invasion threatened her domain of Avelorn. Eltharion faced Malekith once again, this time wounding the Witch King and putting him to flight. Together with Alith Anar, the Shadow King of legend, Eltharion led a punitive army into Naggaroth. As they shored up their defences, the Dark Elf Assassin, Shadowblade challenged Eltharion to a duel. The two master swordsmen fought in an even contest of skill. Shadowblade eventually quit the field, but left Eltharion poisoned. Fortunately, Belannaer had arrived in Naggaroth with reinforcements and healed Eltharion's body with magic. Belannaer brought orders from the Phoenix King: Eltharion was to return to Ulthuan immediately.

Dude just doesnt give up. AND he wounded the Witch King.

I really look forward to seeing Eltharion in game! Maybe even fight beside him! :D
