no that would be kind of point less and make it so that he would just have to hit once and stand back. they want healers to be able to do damage and heal when the time is needed. Not to run up there give the enemy a wack or 2 and become a heal bot.

I guess he doesn't fit into the healer archetype from the podcast then, because if he's expected to do melee dps.... he can't be weak to that lol
true be he wont be dishing out crazy dmg...

lol that's kinda lame lame lame! :skull:
WP is the only support class that's need to be in close combat(well that's the purpose of WP?) mean wile other support classes can be lazy and stay back and nuke and heal.

There are two types of each archetype from what I see, healers are divided into melee healers and ranged healers. WP is a melee healer so I wouldn't worry much about it.

And so far it looks like that WP is the only melee one.

Well, we still haven't seen the Dark Elf healer yet, so we don't know what they'll be like... and despite the fact that the zealot appears to be wearing nothing much but a skirt and some bones, the latest podcast referred to Zealots as "Close Support" type characters, which would imply some kind of melee interaction, though I'm not sure how they'd pull it off, exactly.

I'd laugh if a scrawny, tattered cloth wearing old man runs at me swinging a bone and steak knife....

But will you laugh when he begins siphoning your soul into Tzeench's gaping maw? Who knows, they apparently will rely heavily on debuffs, maybe they have an aura that reduces melee damage to them and their allies or something.
Edit: looks like the boys in the Zealot forum are talking about the same thing... http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15927

I've been wanting to see a WP in action, thanks for linking this. That said I think this class looks awesome, and if I weren't planning on playing Destruction I'd really think about playing a WP as my main.

When that screenie from the video says that healer classes are weak in "close combat" I'm sure they are referring own melee DPS, and not specifically close combat fighters. That screenie also mentions healers excel in 1 on 1 fights. This is where the Warrior Priest comes in.
Even though the Warrior Priest will have the weakest close combat (compared to other melee DPS classes) that's offset by his survivability (i.e.) medium armor and cures. He also have some nifty abilities like an AoE ring that deals damage to foes, and heals allies. So they can win against a melee on 1 on 1.
However this doesn't mean that Warrior Priests don't fit into the healer archtype described because a bad WP would be one that spends too much time/energy trying to knock out that one opponent. They are esentially "weak close combat" fighters and their cures would beter serve those "strong close combat" instead of themselves, because those players will be able to kill more players per heal than a WP can.
Those posters that know me, will probably be going "OMG, WTF!!11" because it sounds like it's going against everything I've posted thus far about +DPS specced healers. I am very for +DPS specced healers, but I guess I've neglected to mention that they should only be DPSing along with their fellow pure DPS classes, not by themselves.
Hence why I kepting calling them "support" classes. Support healing, and support DPS.

The zealot isn't close combat anything.
The zealot is ranged support & offensive spell casting. The podcast is wrong.

Ah yes. How could we ever have forgotten that the podcasts are all 'spin', and that they aren't to be considered truth? Unless you have access to the full list of Zealot abilities and are personally familiar with playing one with all the abilities, even the ones not yet listed or even implemented, I'd hesitate to call a podcast wrong.

The PAX write up impression was that between a zealots Ritual Circle, certain buffs he had and abilities, he could hold his own in melee quite well.

Perp, you seem very certain of yourself... I mean it's a game that won't be released for another 5 to 6 months at least, so pretty much everything on this board is hearsay and speculation.
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the guys who made the podcast know more than you do, mmmmkay? Whether they've changed their minds about it, or will in the future, well who's to say. It is their game, after all.

Nope, Rune priest, shamans and i believe now zealots are all ranged type healers while so far the only true melee one is warrior priest.
