I myself believe, and hope that the shadow warriors will be a ranged damage class. Though I have no real sources... from the majority of the threads and other places I have read they all made it out to be a ranged damage class.

While profiecent in melee combat, they shine in ranged combat, so I assume range.*

Also, there are lots of other choices for melee dps class, most notably the White Lions, and yet there isn't really much in the way or good, iconic ranged combat units since the Archmage already has the support class spot.

For people who think they will be melee, let me propose this question to you. What would be the ranged combat class?

*May be incorrect, going by just what I have read in these forums, correct me if I'm wrong.

If you think they will be the main melee class, please do us all a favor and smack yourself 15 times. They are the freaking Legalazes of Warhammer.

They are the freaking Legalazes of Warhammer. I think the opportunity to counter-act the whole Legolas bow-imagery by emphasising that they're these black-haired, grim, grey "good Dark Elves" Elves burning with vengeance and merciless fury for their fallen kin will be too tempting for the devs. Paul Barnett will have a field day.

I really dont see how anyone could possibly believe that these scout archers could be anything other than ranged dps. If they are indeed melee, they are not really Shadow Warriors, merely a made-up class that happens to have the same name.

In the Lore of Warhammer, they are explained to be, as previously said, "good Dark Elves" who are known for their skill with the crossbow or bow. In the bit I read about them, they use their crossbows to great efficiency, killing Witch Elves in single shots to the throat, heart, etc. But when they are drawn into battle they are, as quoted from the book itself "out of their element" and are systematically slaughtered by the evil Dark Elves their are fighting, though slaughtered may be a bit of a heavy word, seeing as they ARE somewhat competent up close.

P.S. I read all that in the INVASION! novel, a bunch of short stories from the Warhammer world. A great read, IMO.

I say Ranged, but with a mix of melee, similair to the Witch Hunter.

They are famed for their guerilla tactics and ability to drop foes unseen. They are grim and unyielding, and a very proud and warlike people, due to the constant raids of the Druchii they are unable to settle to more peaceful tasks, and are constantly at war. Unlik the Asur, they do not mask their emotions nor their utter contempt for Druchii. They use longbows, not crossbows, no Elves use them. They show no mercy to any Druchii they encounter, and those they take alive they torture until they're broken or they've gotten the information they need. Alith Anar is the Shadow King of Nagarythe. Shadow Warriors travel many places and can be seen throughout the world due to their nomadic nature; from the dark forests of the Empire to the steaming jungles of Lustria, and of course on the bleak shores of Ulthuan constantly scanning the horizon for the inevitable black sails of the Druchii raiders. Also, since they are viewed as slightly barbaric and "touched by Malekith" by the typical Asur, and partially as a result of this they have stifled their distaste for "lesser" races, as they are seen as outcasts themselves.

They have a WS of 4 in the TT, which is better than an average soldier, so there's no reason to belive they will be awful in melee. I think that they will be similar to the Engineer or Witch Hunter even, a ranged DPS class that is also fairly adequate in hand to hand. This I hope at least. Shadow Warriors will be the only class that could draw me away from a Melee role whether it's tank/melee dps. Although, if they are given pets I won't play one. Seeing as they have no affinity with nature and the fauna of Nagarythe are primarily mutated and raving beasts, they don't have a pet to choose from.

Good explaination; Alith kicks . But I thought I remember reading about them having crossbows... after all they ARE Dark Elves, and Druchii is just a name given to their evil kin... but I'll take your word for it. After all, I've only read the one story on 'em. It was the one where Alith and the famous Swordmaster (drawing a blank on his name) attack Nagaroth.

They are not dark elves, they live on the same continent near enough and most of their people became dark elves but in heart they are high elves. Their armour and weapons are high elf weapons not dark elf ones.

Witch hunters are much more the other way around: Melee, with a small bit of ranged.

That is what I meant, dammit.

If shadow warriors are going to be the ranged dps class then what will be the melee class? Do shadow warriors have any kind of pet? If it would go against lore for shadow warriors to have a pet, then that would mean the melee class would be the pet class for Order. In mmo's, the ranged classes are the ones that usually have pets.
I'm not familiar with Warhammer lore so idk if it is likely that the shadow warrior will have a pet or not. If shadow warriors don't have a pet, then I think that it is likely that shadow warriors will be melee.

Shadows Warriors don't use "Pets". NEITHER DO WHITE LIONS.

Even so, WAR is bringing us Melee Healers and Tanks with GOOD damage.

So it's not a stretch AT ALL for a melee class with a "pet".

If that's the case, then I think it'll be interesting to see what the melee pet class will be.

I'd imagine it will be a White Lion with an actual Lion pet. In the upcoming revision of the Asur codex there is a White Lion chariot, so I assume they have found a way or are able to tame them. Furthermore, a couple races have a "king's bodyguard" career, Hammerer for Dawi, Black Guard for Druchii, and White Lions would fill that slot for the Asur. While a melee pet class could be fun/interesting, I'd really prefer them without pets, White Lions don't need assistance to slaughter people. I don't think Mythic should have felt the need to give Order a pet class just for the sake of "balance", Shadow Warriors/White Lions don't need/have pets and I feel that they would be better off petless if they are indeed implemented.

Not to rag on you, but that's like saying a White Wolf of Ulric (Warrior Priest of Ulric) would have a white wolf pet, but in all actuality a White Wolf of Ulric would WEAR a white wolf pelt. So... ya... not sure a wolf would like him too much... ;)

And from what I've seen, White Lions WEAR lion pelts so... same deal... X-P :p

Except that White Wolves don't also ride around in wolf-drawn chariots, do they?

Since they're best in ranged, I believe that they'll be the High Elves ranged dps career.
