Anyone else realize that the SS's of the Ironbreaker has the shield alternate between left and right hand... although not huge, it would be nice to choose handedness.
What do you all think?

I definately see your perspective. The issue of chosing handedness is really a technical one. It's an animation issue really, untill someone comes up with a clever way to mirror animations on the fly without it taking up extra memory or resources server wise, you won't see it. I doubt it's going to happen in WAR, but maybe they solved that issue.

I think the left hand is the best hand for a sheild, but that's becuase i'm right handed...
But now that I think about it, i'd probably switch off...
Ok I think I retract my fist statement and say both, have a sheild on both arms and an axe in both hands XD

Technically it's not that difficult but it would be quite time consuming.
Not only would you have to create new animations for the shield-bearing classes but it would make a toe-to-toe fight between two melee classes look a bit odd depending on the characters choice of hand.
I'm pretty sure it's one of those polish-type things that could be done but will never make it's way into the game due to the fact they could better utilise their time on more important things.
On the other hand you can never underestimate the wackiness of those Arty/Animator types.

Well, like I said, the only reason I mention it is because of the fact the Ironbreaker screen shots actually how the shield in both hands. So just makes me wonder.

From what I have read history wise, many armies made their soldiers fight right handed if they were shield bearers as it was the 'common' hand. Last thing I would have wanted would be some crazy lefty on line with me and not being able to protect me and annoying me like a left handed brother at the dinner table(me being "right" :D handed). Modern times handedness doesn't really matter, hot brass hurts, but it beats the bullet you might take because he wasn't unloading accurately downrange. Lefty's are actually needed on patrols, even though most grunts/soldiers are ambidextrous shooters.

would be nice to be able to choose. as a leftie it would add to the immersion that little bit more if i could choose my handedness.

To form ranks, really all of the soldiers would need to keep their shields on the same side, regardless of preference.
But, it's a game, and since you really would just have to flip the animation of the character (Which is probably not that complicated a command I'd think...) if it could be made to work easily, I'd be for it being an option.

good point, i forgot all about this. in ancient rome they forced left handed boys to learn things with their right hand for this reason.

I don't see how it would be that time consuming, since they will just have offhand animations anyway?

I myself am left handed. Living in a right handed world is no big deal but I would get a little smile and be a bit more happy If I could make my char left handed as well.

Greetings hand-brother. I'm left handed too. For a long time, in every MMO that I played I wish they would make left-handedness, but nah, they just had to go for the right handers cuz their lazy. I hope it's different in WAR. And I challenge the fool who has called being left-handed annoying to a drinking contest!
