i was just curious about whether the sword masters deflection skill will only be sheilding his group from 1/6 - 1/3 of the ranged classes (im factoring healer as ranged classes and 1/6 is coz there is 1 amt and 1/3 is coz DE might get 1)
so being the fact that this skill will both be on a timer and cost significant ap im just curious is mythic has noticed this and will be changing it to all ranged attacks for like 5 secs 30 sec cool down or something of that sort (other wise it will be one of hose lackluster skills not worth the ap), i dont think its beyond an elf to deflect spells with a magically enhanced sword do you?

Skill Name: Wall of Darting Steel
Description: You spin your weapon and concentrate on your defenses, greatly increasing your chance to parry and disrupt all attacks for up to 6 seconds as long as you maintain your concentration. Requires a Great Weapon. Also deals damage to any enemy in its field of effect.
Action Points: 40.

logical, the Wall of Darting Steel doesn't just knock arrows out of the air. It also cuts up anyone who gets too close to the sword. Its effectiveness is thus justified even if there is just one class it is effective against at range.
The Swordmaster is all about dealing damage and preventing it from being done. The Wall of Darting Steel represents this philosophy extremely well.
I hope that answers your question.

Yeah, aside from all the other uses it has, 40 AP is not alot, it is in fact the cheapest skill I have seen in recent memory.

I like how it mentions *requires a Great Weapon*, that will help keep the Swordmasters' iconic look of them wielding the fabled Greatswords of Hoeth, and if you decide to dual wield this ability will not be avaliable.

Not to burst your bubble, but I bet there will be skills that require dual-wielding also.

If it is balanced out in the end I don't see what the problem is with it...either by adding a higher recast time or a higher AP cost...or even if they whole game mechanics show that it is balanced even as it is...I am sure Mythic is gonna balance out stuff so don't jump on the whine wagon yet...wait for the actual game to come out.

If you watch the Swordmaster/Witch Elf video you can see that it actually drains much more than 40 AP. I think that it probably drains 40 AP per tick while the ability is active. In the video it seems to drain about 1/4 of the Swordmaster's total AP bar by the time the it's finished. Without going in to some very basic math it seems very improbable that the ability only uses 40 AP total.
Not to burst your bubble, but I bet there will be skills that require dual-wielding also.I'm pretty sure there will be a dual-wield skill. They are swordmasters, it would be pretty ironic if they diden't know how to do dual-wield attacks.

Not necessarily. We don't know what level the Swordmaster being demo'd was. It may well be that the Swordmaster was rank 20-30, and thus hadn't yet gained the full 500 AP yet.

First of all, I agree with you, I never said there wouldn't be. I was refering to skills that require dual-wielding, in addition to the skills that require a great weapon.

Watch the video, the Swordmaster uses Dragon Strike and Phoenix Claw, both use 130 AP. Then compare it to how much AP is used by Wall of Darting Steel, it is pretty obvious.

The game has only left Alpha, it's going to require more tweaking. Nothing you see should be taking seriously until January. Maybe even not then.
