I'm very curious about how, having played WoW for more than a year, a tanking class could be effective in PvP. In World of Warcraft, the tank would stack effects that would keep the target focused on him, and obviously that wouldn't be fair to keep your opponent from doing nothing but fighting you. Any ideas?

WoW = NOT WAR

2 completely different games with completely different engines and completely different designers. Basically, every class in WAR is a dps class of some sort. Classes are gimped like in that one game.

The ironbreaker will have moves that tell enemies to attack him, but he'll be able to hold his own in combat and be able to do a decent amount of damage.

Not sure if i fully understand you here, but ill have a shot!
Im pretty sure i read somewhere there'll be guard abilities (for ironbreakers anyway) where they get to share damage with someone. So if said ironbreaker "guarded" his runepriest friend, any damage the runepriest takes will be shared with the ironbreaker, and given the ironbreakers high HP (im assuming), this effectively increases the survivability of the runepriest.
Ive also read about ablities such as taunts that reduce a targets damage against anyone but the ironbreaker by 25%, but i may be lyeing, i cant really remember :)

But as always, this is beta info, so dont expect it to stay the same :D

Im so glad WoW wasent my first or only mmo experience, sure it brought alot of new people into the games, but it has ruined some for life. Not all pvp is as horibly imbalanced as WoW, where a tank there was basically a weaker dps with hamstring. For instance taunt is an ability that halves the damage the taunted target does to everyone but the original taunter. A great way to protect your caster buddies who are getting bent over by meelee types. They have powerful but short duration abilities that help avoid or mitigate damage. And of course collision detection, now they cant just run thru you to get at your squishy buddies, they have to go around. That means a tank can actually hold a narrow passage and protect people. All in all tanks are less gimp here, and there is no omgwtf owned warlockzorz to fearlock you ftl.

Oh did I mention the ironbreaker gets grudge (or rage if you like to think of it in WoW terms) from his ALLIES getting hit. Thats right no more cc him till you finish his buddies than killing him at your leisure. The longer he is alive and the more you hurt his friends, the more damage he will do to you. This makes for one tank you actually want to focus fire first as opposed to the healer/caster/roguey types hiding behind him.

I forgot if the Ironbreaker had this ability or it was another tank in the game but I remember there was a "Taunt" Ability in which the tank would taunt an opponent, and for a period of time the taunted target would do less damage to everyone else besides the tank who did the taunt. So that forces the taunted character to either attack for lower damage or try to beat the tank...and destroy it...:D

What the other guy said, I have no idea why people want another WoW clone game, THIS IS WARHAMMER! *kicks the gnome down a well*

Anyway with all the collision detection and the Ironbreakers mechanic, they will be very viable in pvp, remember kids WAR is about teamwork and not the individual...

No offense to the OP when I say this, but it's really easy to pick out the people whose only MMO experience is WOW. Open your minds up, there are alot of other concepts and ideas out there that Blizzard didn't think of.

IMO this game is going to be all about mass teamwork. Devs have said plenty of times that they made mistakes in DAOC that they won't make here, and this is one of them. DAOC wore down to being a lot of people trying to solo or elitist 8 mans that just whined and b*tched about people running a zerg army. I think the gameplay will necessitate running in larger packs and eliminate a lot of this.

I think i can sleep content in the knowledge that ironbreakers won't be a let down, although thats assuming they don't get changed. Problem i see though is that he hinted at the possibilities classes may be toned down especially the engineer for example.
