I've been seeing a lot (well, not a lot but still...) of people saying that they want a Warrior Priest with swords or not a Warrior Priest at all. That seems kinda silly to me because the Warrior Priest is the HAMMER of the church and they would not complete the furtherance of the churches' goals by having a blade, any body can hold a blade it takes a true warrior to beat a Chaos' head in with a blunt object. Blunt objects add to the true bond between the warrior and Sigmar.

Yeh i read somewhere ages ago that warrior priests use maces because a sword just cuts and makes people bleed while the mace can smash the brain and skull to pieces totally killing the enemy. Ill have to try and think were i heard that

I don't know about the Hammer IP, but in the Middle Ages, you would see a lot of "holy" men fighting with blunt objects such as warhammers (no pun intended).

This is due to the fact that it was illegal for a man of the cloth to use a bladed weapon.

Personally, I think the war hammer adds to the appeal of the warrior priest--a physical manifestation of their role, as someone stated previously, as "the hammer of Sigmar." I also like it on a nostalgic level, since in many of the older pen-and-paper RPGs priests/clerics were prohibited from using edged weapons.

The hammer is wielded by the warrior-priest in honor of Ghal Maraz, the hammer that Sigmar wielded in life. While I haven't read lore that specifically prohibits warrior-priests from using other weapons, there's no example of a warrior-priest that I know of that doesn't use a hammer...unless you count the Grand Theogonist, who uses the Staff of Command.

While it's certainly possible for warrior-priests to use weapons other than a hammer, why would he do so, when wielding a hammer honors his god and the focus of his life, Sigmar?

Taking a hammer from a warrior-priest is like taking a hat from a witch hunter. You just don't do it.

To use anything when absolutely necessary is forgivable. Victory for Sigmar takes precedence over all.
But for a Warrior Priest to voluntarily take up arms other than the Blessed Hammer is perilously close to heresy. Apostasy starts by the little steps, the oh so meaningful and well intentioned thoughts that lead to damnation.

Hammer, any other weapon is heretical. Besides, demons, undead and other abominations dont bleed, we use hammers to CRUSH THEM into nothingness.

if i am forced to use a weapon other than a hammer at any point i will take it to the blacksmith, have it melted down, and reformed into a brick on a stick.

our hammers make dwarfs envious!

Hammers = smite = WP

Sword = slice =/= WP

imo.

Hammers are OK (obviously not playing a dwarf hammerer:p), but for my alternative to swords, I prefer maces, especially morningstars.

Then they stab and bleed... AND they smash brains and totally eliminate the enemy!
