View Full Version : How does an engineer obtain his explosives?

I'm guessing engineers will craft their own devices, but I was curious where they get the materials. Do they drop off enemies? Must we mine, buy the materials, or do we simply "conjure" them?
How about guns? Do we need to buy ammo? Will engineers have inventory problems, lugging around countless amounts of ammo, grenades, and other expendible explosives?
I am fairly unfamiliar with the class. I have read the class page, seen screenshots, and it all sounds exciting, but I saw a few holes. Can anybody clear things up for me?

They create by spending AP.

EAM said a while back that you will have to tote around ammo. But as the original poster said, most of those nifty items and moves are AP driven.

Umm....Not too sure if engineers will have to lug around slugs...But at the games convention Squig Herders didnt have to carry endless amounts of arrows...So i would figure it would be the same for engineers.

From what I understood you would not need to carry standard ammo. But special ammo would have to be carried. What special is, I am unclear of, but I would assume staus affect ammo etc....

To clarify for the OP, when they say it takes AP, yes, they are "Conjuring" the grenades and such. It's just assumed they have "enough" on them at the time.
As to ammo... who knows? Besides EAM of course.

Generally if you shoot something, you tote around the ammo. For a class like engineer with so many different moves that could require reagents (items needed to use the ability) it'd be an annoyance beyond reason to require them for everything possible.

If the OP hasn't guessed, nobody outside of the beta test knows the answer to your question at this point :)
I really, really, really, really, really hope there is no 'Gathering' mechanic in the game.
Mythic said they were going to try to minimize grinding in WAR and nothing embodies the concept of grinding more than gathering skills.

Thing I couldnt stand about the 'engineer' trade skill class in wow that was kindof needed if you where going to be a hunter. least it made gettin' ammo fer ya gun cheaper. Is all the fiddlin about with odds 'n ends in an allready limited inventory space. Not to mention havin' one of ya inventory slots taken up by a bandoleer fer ya amo.

In daoc arrows were really only a nuisance to noobs. Who had very little money, and low strength for lugging them around. After mid level, they really lost their importance as arrows became quite cheap and you could carry around a couple thousand of them if you wanted. I would take a look at the archery changes however in daoc, which eliminated the need for arrows on a character. I have seen stuff labeling Engineer Tactics, as Explosive Ammo, and AP(armor piercing) ammo which can be set. All of the abilities like grenades, had an action point cost to them, so they would be generated with that mana pool. I think the signs are pointing to there not being ammunition that has to be purchased. If there is anything, there may be something like an ammunition pouch, which you have to buy which would hold unlimited ammo of the type that may give special bonuses like +3 to accuracy or such which progress as you level up.

Conjuring ammo sounds decent...Just hope that ammo will be "infinite" so to say; meaning you would only need to be carrying one stack to get that ammo bonus.

Well, like people said your bombs and stuff are mana based. As far as ammo goes I hope you can just buy a type of ammo and have an infnite amount of it. One thing I hated in WoW, was how much space my ammo took up. The food for my pet and supplies for jewel crafting sure didn't help though.

I agree... unless there is a separate ammo bag you can put in your main bags, I would like it to be infinite.
