View Full Version : New WAR Community Manager
Nic_GOA
11-11-2008, 07:27 AM
Hello all!
My name is Nic. I would like to announce that I’ll be working with you on Warhammer Online as a Community Manager for GOA.
I am originally from the Netherlands and even though it has been nearly 8 years since I lived there my Dutch is still nearly as fluent as my English. It may be the other way around though.
In my free time I can usually be found playing any of a long list of games, both online as well as single player and whenever I can find the motivation I paint my Lizardmen, High Elf or Tau (boo 40k!) armies.
As an avid gamer and Warhammer enthusiast this job combines some of my hobbies with my passion for clear communication and I look forward to being part of the Warhammer Alliance community!
Kind regards,
Nic

Hope you enjoy your new Job dude - I'm more than happy about this! :)

As far as I can tell by your post your an avid Warhammer fan, thus I hope you will be able to forumulate the ideas, opinions and issues brought forward by the EU community and present them in a manner that would get GOA off its arse so they actually provide the high level of service that they are contracted to provide.
edit: Welcome by the way.
Good luck to ya I say!:D
If you could find out why the EU updates seem to be slowing down in comming out would be great.

Welcome Nic I hope that you will be able to help my EU brothers so that they may get the same CS that we get here in the states. Hell as bad as it has been for them maybe even better than ours. Oh and BTW I have seen some of those mini's after they are painted up think its quite a neat thing there. Unfortunately I have little to no artistic skill so =( I have to stick with killing Order.

What you're telling me that those retarded psychopaths who send death threats to people online deserve anything better?
Sorry but I disagree and I'm dissapointed Ian isn't with us, occasionally parts of the community need to be told the truth - he wasn't calling everyone a retard just the jerks who send death threats.
Sadly.. the community don't bother reading and just jump to assumptions with blind nerd rage

The only problem is they're just the guys who talk to us on fansites, doesn't necessarily mean GOA will provide a better and/or faster service.
Welcome aboard regardless.

Where are the server transfers then?

Hope they pay you well and you can spin turd into gold.
And to the guys that are saying glad they replaced ianc afaik he still works for GOA just he is no longer posting. (for what its worth I thought he was spot on with the infamous post just it was bad timing and probably not too wise)
Edit: probably came across a bit harsh and ultimately that wasn't intended to the OP welcome to the community!

Hello and welcome.
As a GOA representative, you're kind of starting on square one as GOA is so far behind Mythic when it comes to the service presented.
I hope very much that you can help redeem that situation, but I expect not.

Hello Nic!
Nice to see you here :) i hope you enjoy your stay.
Great to finaly hear something from the European part of Warhammer online! I hope you will be faster to announce news which is very important for the players, such as European server transfers. I know a lot of people who would still be playing Warhammer online if only they had gotten the news about the server transfer at the same time as the Americans did!

I call it the "Tseric syndrome". CMs literally lose their soul after being thrown in those mad houses called "forums".
Both him and Tseric were completely right, being sincere / not timing it right does not pay these days though.

I actually felt sorry for IainC, however after what he said he had to go. Another community manager can only be a good thing for EU, that is assuming GOA are capable of addressing the points Magnus refers to in his other post (cba linking it). The WAR website and Herald in particular have been masterclasses in how not to engratiate your customer base.

I'm with you, NoneSuch. I have much more respect for Iain now that I know he isn't just some corporate beast of burden/yes man who just stands there and takes it like a man. He stood up against adversity, and I respect that. Customer service representatives and management are NOT there for you to abuse, and anyone who does so brings to surface many, many unsavory 'qualities' about their nature.

Well apart from what I previously said I do welcome any new community manager/developers. IanC did slip up, he shouldn't of said it and he should of probably kept silent and taken the abuse.
I kinda have respect for him for not doing that and saying what needed to be said. Yet I know it's inevitable he was going to go, so oh well welcome nic.

I dare say IanC probably stood it longer than most of us could.

Blood for: the Blood God or the Blood God?

Will for saying to people there is something wrong with you isn't an offense my book.
But wasn't the best thing to say...any way if i was him i would have said worse.
Now...when will the EU get a realm of war...change the stupid flash horror of a web site & get a PTS.
These are things we need to know who is responsible for..mythic or GOA.
the way i see it now is that these are huge issues that most players here are thinking about.
So an explanation at least would be nice for why we don't get the same things that the US players have already which i don't see that this would be hard for you.
Consider it that with this you prove for us that we can count on you as a community manger.
Welcome, always glad to see another community manager enter the firing range- err I mean forums. :D
Good luck.

No, let's not. IainC wasn't perfect, but he was honest and verbose, and he shouldn't have (presumably) been fired over the entirely justified response he wrote - this is an internet forum for chrissake. There should be a certain amount of leeway granted, and there are very many people posting here who need to be told to piss off on occasion.
The last thing I desire is another sycophant who prattles to the customers; we need community reps who display personality and can give and take an argument, not, as has been said, mindless yes/no men bound by protocol and middle management.

That would require someone from GOA to communicate, without being begged, cajoled, or threatened.
The experience seems to be that this only happen when there is wide scale revolt for non-communication over the things everyone already knows about.
Hopefully it will be a while before "the new guy" adopts the same bunker mentality!

Well I asked my question nicely (a number of times, as have others) and they haven't been answered, I guess Magnus and Nic are v/busy... or we have misunderstood their role, in which case it would be useful to know where we should we direct our day to day questions too, is there an email address or telephone number we can call (primarily for the EU folks, but I guess the same is also true for the other regions)?

I'm looking forward to first answers to our questions from Nic. I hope it won't happen after the new year.

Honestly guys we all should know by now that the community manager can't just run about willy nilly and answering whatever questions he feels like.
He's monitored and he can't just posts what he wants to. Actually I suspect he has to ask higher ups what he can and cannot say everytime before he posts about ingame issue's.
That's how it's handeld in practically every other company. It's also one of the reasons why mark can post pretty much whatever he likes as he's above such restructions because he's the CEO.
So let's be nice to nic. If he doesn't answer it's not because he doesn't want to or he enjoys torturing the community.

I only ask again because Magnus had previously responded to me that the WAR stats were due within the week, which for no fault of his own never materialised. That was four or five weeks ago so I thought I would try for another update, which is what David Petit, the guy in charge of all of the EU community managers directed us to do in his open post to the community, with respect to the community managers role: (http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1106498&postcount=1)
"He will read your contributions, heed your opinions and requests, so do not hesitate to ask him questions or to address him directly. He is here for you and for the regulars of this place."
I completely agree that we should be civil about it and thought I was, but will stop if it is seen as rude or inappropriate. I am at a loss to see what their role is if we can't ask questions though.

Ok guess we were carried away because as you know not every one in EU is happy...if ever.
But in the main time we like some answers also....these are real issues that we don't like in the game overall & it's affecting our gaming experience so we have to worry about them.
Sadly there is no one else from the so called GOA to ask so we have to turn to the new community manger...i mean who else should we "or can we" talk to anyway.
It's not his fault but the fault of a company that dosn't know how to do the slightest human communication with it CUSTOMERS .
The US players have dates for hot fixes...they know what's the statue if the game..what will change & when.
EU players have NOTHING.
This is not whinn...I'm a customer & have the right to know.
So new CM...bad luck that you ended in this position...i'm really sorry for you.

So he basically can't do anything besides praising GOA greatness and great customer service?
If they can't be honest with us and write at least: "Sorry guys we're missing some hotfixes / we didn't update our mainpage / random reason / BUT we will update them asap" then whats the point of new Community Manager? Another mouth to spread propaganda?
Really, some players are more helpful than GOA.

Well of course he can say stuff like that if the people he works for allows it but let's face it, if you're getting payed by mythic/GOA you aren't going to go about bad mouthing the company/saying whatever you feel like about it or else you'll lose your paycheck.
I know people aren't asking that but if he posts something about a patch which in the end doesn't turn out to be accurate people would freak out and blame GOA etc. So he has to be careful on what he posts and probably get permission.
He's doing his job people shouldn't be so tough on him :p

With the Heavy Metal Event you get the chance to play the new classes for a week before the general server population - should you get elite INF in the event.
Word on the street is that you can play the new classes only on the Test Server - not the live servers.
As the EU doesn't have a PTS....

Just noticed also that on the news page the Heavy Metal Event says the event will start on the 17th Nov - yet on the detail page for the event (http://www.war-europe.com/#/specialfeat/?feat=heavymetal&lang=en) it says that the event starts on the 18th Nov.

Our patcher doesn't download testpatch.exe which gives you access.
Google doesn't bring up any references to a download for it alas.
In theory all we need is the testpatch.exe to access the US servers if they allow you to create a new char. Otherwise it won't work as we can't do a char transfer to the US servers.

Welcome to your new role Nic.
Not the best time to start in the role, with all the frustrations that are out there at the moment, but hopefully you'll be able to keep everyone up-to-date and make a good name for yourself & GOA. Good luck ;-)
It would be great if we could have more info on the character transfers once you have it...
There are lots of people, including myself, who are really struggling on empty servers and missing out on the heavy metal event. It's also a pain because everyone is on hold why they await the information. This is the final nail in the coffin for activity levels on the low population servers.

btw, IanC had balls, emotion, and knew what he was talking about, I'd rather that than some grinning sycophant agreeing with everything we cried about.

Can we get ANY news about 1.06 on EU servers? The biggest patch so far hits US today and GOA can`t even post few words if there`s any chance we`re gona get it this week. Btw, we really don`t care about patch notes in 5 different languages, don`t mind them plz. Eh, thank You.

What this guy said, x4.
easiest thing to do would be translate one line of text along the lines of:
Patch 1.0.6 due on xxx, Patch notes to follow.
I'm sure that wont take too long for all the languages. Then they can go and have a guiness or a crossaint and take their time with the tranny.

I think it would be nice to get some information when we getting 1.06 patch, as players here stated and im also aware that US are getting theys straights after HEAVY METAL and that the patch also gives players who have completed HEAVY METAL access to the new chars after event.
So from my reading that means we should get the patch applied by tomorrow morning as well.

Any updates on the EU having a PTS guys?
You may notice a client patch when you log on today. We just posted this on our website:
Today at 12:45 CET we will deploy a small client update on the patcher to prepare for the soon to arrive test server. You will download a file called 'testpatch.exe'. Please note that if you execute this file you will patch your client to version 1.1 but you won’t be able to connect to the test server because it’s not yet available.
We’ll notify you as soon as the test server is available.
I can't give you any further info for now sorry. But it's coming soon(tm).
