View Full Version : Make award cloaks "add-ons" for normal cloaks?

I enjoy the live events ingame a lot, as well as the random unlock cloaks and such. The different models are nice to look at but overall they are useless. Would it be possible to make these items "addons" (either like how talismans are added to armor, or even a new slot for them) so they display over your current cloak with stats?

The same thing would work with the halloween masks so players can actually keep them equipped rather then just show them off, then equip stat gear.

I think it would be good for unlocked cloaks that you just add the skin on a cloak you are wearing, like a guild heraldry preserving the original cloak stats.

yes i would love that, because i dont use my cloaks atm they are useless to me they are only in my bank just so i can say i have them. all these special items are only good for lowbies level 1 -15 :(

I had exactly the same idea when I unlocked one very nice cloak with no stats.

I don't have any of these cloaks yet. But are they really cloaks? Or just the same old blanket with a new skin?

It's similar but there are ones that look like fur, some have skin on it and other have cool logos.

Excellent idea, I support it 100%. As it is I don't even bother to purchase the cloaks anymore because they are useless (beyond looks).

I 100% agree, I love the look of my Witch Night cloak but the stats are pretty useless. I'd rather it be just for show over another cloak, like guild cloaks.

Agreed in full. I've only unlocked one cloak thus far, a sort of cool bear skin ... skin ... but the cloak has no stats or anything ... So much cooler than just your standard guildy cloak.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mythic implements this at some point: It's a great idea.

I like my Shawl of Spring even though it does nothing, like goggles. :D

Nah, that does not go far enough for me.

Any of you played EQ2?
Imho the best implementation ever:
There's a second group of itemslots for all visible armor, whatever you put into these slots overrides the graphics of the armor you wear, but does not add any stats.
That way you can look really good and still wear patchwork armor consisting of different sets for max efficiency. In that constellation "Social Clothes" also make sense, cause people actually start wearing them, not for stats but for looks.

Example (careful, pictures behind the links are rather large):
Arasai wearing Armor:

Arasai wearing the same Armor with a special social clothset in the social slots that gives 0 stats but overrides the looks:
http://img359.imageshack.us/my.php?image=syphaforesttw4.jpg

Imho that is something every MMO should incorporate. You get the stats from the gear in the equipment slots and the graphics from the gear in the social slots. It is possible to put the pieces into both slots. If a social slot is unoccupied the gear that also adds stats show up.

You can say against EQ2 whatever you want, but the social/community aspects of the game are the best ever imho.

For those that purchased the CE of he game and saw how the special heads worked I would think something like this would be ideal for masks/cloaks etc.

You get the unlock as a token, you go to a vender to dye the item and insert the token into the special slot. Therefore you can 'dye' your uber cloak of uberness to look like the shawl of spring - show off your tome unlock and practical at the same time (and everytime you got a new cloak you could 're-dye it or even change your existing design). Got mega helmet of head protectyness? Add a mask 'token' and you are wearing a dark elf mask of protectyness (though don't espect anyone to take you seriously :D )

My brother and I were talking about this the other day, and we basically had the same idea. (the Eq2 one) But I think the idea Gorfist had would be the best way to implement this. Hopefully someone at Mythic will read this.

Personally I disagree with being able to completely conceal your items. Changing the appearance of a cloak does not alter the fact it remains an obvious cloak. Being able to run around naked while retaining all of the stats / bonuses of a full armour set is stupid (sorry EQ2 players). There are very few ways to discern the effective threat level of an opponent in this game. They might have a higher or lower level, but as we all know, in many cases it makes little difference. But when you look at somebody charging towards you with more armour than your average fortress, that's a good way to discern you're probably about to die.

Admittedly, there are times I have wished I could keep a piece of armour but simply change its appearance. This being said, having cooler looking gear is a surprisingly powerful motivation to continue levelling, which ultimately stands as another point against the cosmetic appearance thing.

Cloaks are fine though. Cloaks would be good. I want that cool bear skin cloak damn it ...

The EQ2 implementation sounds sweet too.

Great idea. Give us "cloak designs" rather than useless cloaks only to be worn in towns and safe areas.

I sent in a recommendation like this for the Witching Event. I really like the demon mask, but essentially it is useless.

I think that these events should give us items that can "absorb" the stats of one item we own, destroying that absorbed item.

I agree.

I actually wish they would do what I believe EQ2 has done, where you can keep and apply the 'graphic skin' of items that you have obtained, and apply them to new items. So effectively, you can keep the look of your 'favorite' item, but gain the benefits of the newer higher level items. For example, if you hated the RR 70 Shaman Hat, you could apply the Teir 2 hood graphic to the RR 7 Shaman Hat.

Awesome idea, I actually thought this was how it works when I unlocked a cloak from the ToK.

Perhaps make the cloaks items in the TOK you can enable, kinda like your titles.

Clear it to show the plain cloak, or select from Guild or other cloak style to modify the looks accordingly.

Agreed.

Witching Night was pretty disappointing after I realized that the goodies I'd worked so hard for were only ever going to take up bank slots. I'm not sure what Mythic was thinking when they created those rewards since they must have known they would never really get used past Tier 1. If only the reward stats could have scaled up with your rank. But now they are as worthless as all those unlocked cloaks.

Well, maybe they'll change it, so I'll hold on to them for now.

Well, looking at the stats of the cape I think this time you can wear it without too much problems. The stats are really good, I will be wearing mine a long time.

Love the idea, I loved my Fur cloak on my shaman and wish i could keep it, but the stat decrease is way to much :(

This would add another layer of uniqueness for the playerbase while still having no effect on "Stats" or anything while just being a another visual element.

Agree in full....

so where can we suggest this?

I like this idea, although I'd prefer them to be listed in the ToK Rewards section with the titles, tactics, etc. You could select a pattern by right-clicking it like you do achievement titles. I'm all for more bag space, especially as a gatherer/crafter.

Definitely a good idea. Since they don't have any bearing on balance/stats, the decorative cloaks can just add as a pattern and give players more customization choices. :D

I've long thought that it would be a good thing to have dedicated merchants or a crafting skill for just Dyeing and changing the appearance of items. It's not like most characters don't have a few gold burning a hole in their cassock's, why not spend a little of it on keeping your character looking how you want them to. It would be two adds to the game in one. A new crafting skill, maybe, as well as added customization.

I'd also like to see some trophies depicted on cloaks only (other people's blood stains, burns, tears and such). I'm sick of that perfect looking cloak that is unchanged even though you just went through a blazing inferno a BW threw, a meteor sqashing you and god knows what else. I want my cloaks to have character.
