First off I really like the look of the engineer.

My plan is to invest in tactics that will increase my ranged damage and sit back sniping and waiting for Artillery strike. This means that i won't be using my grenades as often as an engineer who gets up closer to the enemy.

Will my overall damage be gimped in comparison to such an engineer?

Well, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say... possibly. Though no one other than those with solid play experience (more so than even convention time) and Mythic themselves could say for sure.

Then again, the difference between a shot and a grenade toss is only 40 feet. So provided you didn't make yourself an obvious target, I don't see why you couldn't hang a bit closer to the action. Or you could simply stay at max range, moving up for a quick grenade toss, then moving back.

Also, Lack of turret and bomb use would be a shame. Both of those seem like they'd need a mobile Engineer to be effective. Turrets only last a minute, not sure on there firing range but I doubt it's as far as an engineers regular shot. So not only do they need to be placed often, but likely closer to the action as well.

So in short, It seems like you'd be sacrificing most avenues of your classes utility except for your gun. Which would lead me to believe you probably would end up gimping yourself.

As I said though, no one really knows.

It kinda looks like you may be gimping your damage a bit, but i can see what you would want to do. By focusing on ranged attacks you would have a good chance at killing most melee before it touches you, however you may be pretty weak against pure ranged classes like the magus.

Playing as an Engineer
As an Engineer, the heart of your job is to rain destruction on the heads of your enemies. Like other ranged combatants, you prefer to avoid the frontline. However, unlike most other ranged classes, you reach the peak of your power at a relatively short range. You must maneuver wisely, positioning yourself so that you can strike at your target without exposing yourself to their attacks. You are a capable melee fighter, and you can strike at extended range, but your best attacks – grenades, blunderbusses, artillery bombardment, and more – require a closer position.

From the description im assuming the engineer will be quite a bit tougher than other ranged careers, and he may be designed to take a little damage and may be decent at melee. If hes good in melee defensively than it may be better to hang around up close and if you get forced into melee just riding it out and either waiting for help or taking down the last bit of an opponent's health. Guess we will have to see how it actually pans out in game.

Yeah from what we read you're a short to medium ranged attacker

Since I am really into the engineer part (engineering is my favorite class at my high school , lulz), I will focus on the gadgetry, like turrets and grenades, to help damage all enemies.

Sniping sounds fun, I think they will have skills and tactics you can invest into which will help you increase your firing range and damage. In most games featuring snipers I always like to find a little nook to sit in somewhere where it is hard for others to see you, then I blast away.

Thats a good point.
From what I heard the Engineer is more the "shotgun" of the range damage classes that is week over long distances but get more and more dangeros if you get closer

So ,imho, if you try to " sit back sniping" every other range DPS Archtyp would be better.
