View Full Version : Caster Pet Class anyone?

I've seen a lot of speculation abound considering what type of pet class will be available to HEs. It seems pretty unanimous in speculation that the next two will be Shadow Warrior and White Lion. Those seem like fine choices to me but... well, we're still missing something I think. Shadow Warriors sound like they could put the appropriate spin on DPS for the HEs, whether thats ranged or melee or a combination of both it doesn't much matter. But where is the pure caster DPS class that seems to me to be quintessential to -The- premiere casters? Would it be so far fetched to hope that maybe this class would be DD & Pet based? Say, elementals or somesuch thing? I don't know anything about the lore of Warhammer or how practical this suggestion might be, but I'm curious to see what others might think on the subject. -El Guapo Gato-

Archmagi do not summon pets. Its almost unheard of in the lore (naval Magi can summon creatures, but they are REALLY powerful, or have only an indirect effect that wouldn't translate well in-game).

Not to mention they've already been put down as the healer/support class for the High Elves (adding a pet would probably overpower them).

So, in short, a summoner pet class won't be in game. Not to mention its been done to death (and a melee DPS pet class would certainly be more unique).

It seems that with the classes they've already set out, caster pet classes are out, though you'd think that with 24 freakin' classes they could get one out. I guess it has been done to death though.

I think it's interesting to see a game being made that moves away from traditional caster-pet classes. Hell, their isn't even a 'caster' archtype, instead it's range dps. From the speculation it seems like the White Lion is going to be the range dps pet class on par with the Squig Herder, where-as the other one will be the Mellee dps class.

It's a good thing, it gives them more room to manuavor for balance and flexibility in my opinion. On the flip side of any rational game-balancing-non traditional-class thought, I am kind of sad to see no caster-pet classes, since from EQ onwards those are the classes I've gravitated towards (and enjoyed the most) in every MMO since.

I suppose the Engineer could kinda / almost / not really be considered a caster-pet class... I mean they get turrets, it could be considered a pet... right?! :)

I'd rather see a meele/pet class.

Caster/pet has been done to death in every MMO since EQ, and DAoC.

Zxae, you got them mixed up. Squig Herder is the range dps pet class, and people are saying that the White Lion will be the melee DPS class.

I realise the Squig Herder is the range DPS pet-using class, I just have my suspicions that the White Lion will also be a range DPS pet-using class. That's what I meant, sorry if it wasn't clear. Re-reading what I wrote I can see how it wasn't clear, where I mentioned Mellee dps I was refering to the Shadow Warrior which will have nothing to do with pets at all.

Could be wrong about the White Lion, if I am my point still stands the same though. :)

Edit: Wont delete it but yeah I probably have the White Lion and Shadow Warrior backwards as far as my range dps and mellee dps class prediction goes. Boo!

I found it hard to imagine a Mellee DPS pet class, figured they would just do a Range DPS pet class on either side. Ahh well, my bad it seems.

Next time I read the Lore 'first'. Ha!

I'm hoping they switch things up and make White Lions a melee/pet class, too. The whole caster + pet and archer + pet stuff has been absolutely done to death in the Mmorpg scene. :(

Yeah I know, I did some reading and I admitted I had it the wrong way round in my edit so no need to clear things up.

Thanks though. :p

What? Done to death? Haven't a lot of other classes such as Warrior-Priest (Paladin, sort of) been done to death too?...

Perhaps, but not in the way each of the various games' "Paladins" work. I just can't see a Shadow Warrior with a pet, it does. not. suit. their. lore. at. all. Atleast the White Lions tame real white lions in the next High Elf army book edition.

I hate to break it to you but a DD/pet based class wouldnt be a pure caster DPS class either ;)

If you want to play a the proverbial glass cannon for Order then it would be the Bright Wizard and on Destruction whatever the DE ranged DPS class is since we know the Magus dosentquite fit that description and neither does the Squig Herder.

I'm personally hoping for a melee/pet class as well. The only time I've seen one of these was in EQ, and I quit shortly after their release (Beastlords or whatever) so I never really saw them in action. Though, the Shadowknight in EQ was also a melee pet class, though their pets were fairly weak (at least before Sony took over and started releasing a new xpac every month.. no idea how powerful they ended up being).

Exactly. And, until the conveniently timed 7th edition High Elf release, pets weren't a concept at all in the High Elven society. If it wasn't for that release, I'd still be ranting about the idea is completely unjustified. But, EA Mythic has shown a healthy respect for the IP, and it isn't entirely implausible for them to pull it off with White Lions.
