We've all played the warhammer 40k on a single player game of various genres. What genre and/or gameplay would you most want to see used for an online incarnation of Warhammer 40k?
Would you want an MMO like there are rumblings about?
Would you want it to play like Halo or some other FPS?
Something else completely?
I personally would think that using a UT3 engine and similar gameplay would be awesome. Playing a team deathmatch against an entire team of another race would be incredible.

Retool Planetside and you have the makings of a very enjoyable Warhammer 40k MMOFPS. I would dig it.

Moving to Off Topic. There's a few thread in Off Topic dealing with this already, so it'll be worth using the Search Function (lucy) to find them. There's plenty of awesome points been raised already.

Hmmm FPS *thinks of that horrible game firewarrior* no thanks. An MMORPG would be awesome though. Perhaps in the style of StarWars KotoR (yes I know thats a singleplayer game), that would be brilliant.

I think a mixture of what Planetside and KotOR did would be awesome in a 40k MMO. Give the RPG elements from KotOR, but make it FPS style like Planetside.

I think theres an FPSRPGMMO engine being made for a game, I forgot what it's called but theres a thread of it somewhere, if that one works then mix that engine with the mass effect engine if both of them are good. If not planetside mixed KotoR would be okay.
And firewarrior was bad but not because it was an FPS, but the way they did it.

My only worry are Space Marines.
If Space Marines were included in any MMO, it would totally suck. Don't get me wrong, I love the guys, but they're too damned powerful. Putting them into the game would make an obvious alpha class, or just bastardize the awesome of the Space Marines. At best, perhaps include small segments of Power Armor for normal humies to wear, as well as bolters as rare endgame guns
Other than that, anything would be good. FPS RPG would probably get my vote over the standard kind of game.

It HAS to be an MMO FPS, not an RPG, no NPC's, no auto targeting ....these have been tested and have failed miserably.( Auto Assault, TR, ect )
Planetside is the most under rated game ever released and its style of play is the only smart decision they could possibly make.

the only way you can do it especially with the races in Warhammer is Battlefield style. You can't level a spacemarine/Imperialguard/eldar succesfully. My only hope when they do this is that they make it like Joint Ops and have the maps that can support 128 people.

Isnt THQ making a Warhammer 40k MMO? Cause i went on Gamespot looking for more WAR videos and search Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. And i saw Warhammer 40k Online or something along the lines. But yea i saw something like a Warhammer 40k mmo somewhere in Gamespot dont know if its true.

Yeah they are still literally at the drawing boards.
Personally i think an fps style game would blow chunks in the most part. Like has been said, a Space Marine simply does not lose in a fight against a Guardsman...Just doesn't happen. Sheer weight of numbers is all well and good but doesn't work in an fps. Too much would have to be left out for balance sake that i don't think it would be very true to the feeling of the game. Of course they could make it so that for every 1 Space Marine in play, 3 Guardsmen/1 Tau/2 Guardians etc could be in play.
That said, I think that an MMO Necromunda would work amazingly as an FPS. Have a Hive as the Game Map. Have it cut up into hundreds of differant segments and areas, each of which can be captured. Players then create gangs (guilds) and try to hold as much territory as they can. The more you hold, the more cash/rewards you get. It would be a beautiful concept if it could be done right.

a cool thing they could do is have you start out as a space marine (FOR INSTANCE) then when you level up to like 2-3 you get another space marine so now there are 2 of you running around and your controlling both. Later on you could have full squads and get weapons such as missile launchers and plasma guns. Or, you could say forget this im going assault squad and then trade in your bolters for chainswords and jump jets. They could have PvP be similer to TT where its on a point system with troop choices and what not. Dont have any brilliant ideas about HQ but im sure they could come up with something clever.

MMOFPS (a la Planetside)
Mature Rating
Unreal 4.0 Engine
Release: 2015
Anything sooner and I'd be skeptical if they could deliver the scale needed for WH40K EPIC. Overwhelming and intimidating, dark and unsettling, and wholly graphic.

It also includes the same rights to Games Workshop’s Gorkamorka and Necromunda properties
Necromunda would make an interesting mmo

Space marines.
ah yes that old arguement.
Maybe they could be a special class for GMs to help even out a battle if one (imperial) race is so heavily outnumbered that its not fun
for other races i have no clue

As a MMOFPS kinda like planetside would be awsome.
edit: ohw yea and a mature rating ofcourse, no more limitations in design please, do it proper.
