have they state on it yet. Will we be able to climb ladder or , even better, walls...?
we were able to do so in DAOC, why could we not in WAR... Please, Mythic, dont regress on this one.

This is WARHAMMER not Chutes and ladders
my guess is NO, because people would rather them devote time to stuff that actually matter while trying to maintain a releas date. Think of it this way would you rather
A) Have Mythic encorporate wall/ ladder climbing and lets say weather effects too when the game comes out, but change classes that will upset players in patches.
OR
B) Have all the classes stable and fun at release, and then possibly add stuff that matters less later on.
Im not saying you cannot have both. It is just irrational to complain about trivial stuff when we all ultimatley want a balanced fun game.

I would like to see climbing in game myself. Dosn't seem to hard to do and can make for intresting senarios.

This kind of reasoning anoys me.
On-topic: yes I'd like to see climbing too, more interaction with the environment makes for a more fun game.
I think climbing would make things pretty interesting, could climb up a ladder away from an enemy, then jump off and get in an attack before they do the same :P

So during a capitol siege instead of climbing up the ladder your going to charge the walls and chip away at them with your sword till ya get through? Logically it makes more sense to use the ladder. However on the other hand.
They front gates will be going down very fast and most of the combat will be in the city making the use of ladders for sieging not an issue. Just have to wait and see!

I would imagine that there will be ladders in the game. Not having the ability to use such a simple, common tool for fear of "how long it would take to develop" is silly, for a few animators and programmers it would take a day or two at most, very easy to implement.

I think they had ladders in DAoC. Not sure if it'll be in WAR, though. But I have seen a greenskin siege tower in a scenario used to get into a dwarf stronghold. It looked like a static part of the scenario.

Can't seeing it being too much different from DaoC's implementation of ladders and climbing. Wouldn't be too hard to transfer that to scaling parts of a wall. I seriously doubt they wouldn't put the former in, no idea about the later.
I personally hated DAOC's ladder system. I always had problems dismounting wherever i wanted to go. If they can implement it better than that, I'm all for it, but if its still as cumbersome as it was before, I'd prefer not to have it.

I dont need climbing ladders and vines and what not. What I need to see is animation that makes sense when I'm running up a steep incline or downgrade I need to see my character stumble, crawl, slip, slide etc. It's time to boost the general animation count for these next gen games. Especially since Mythic is high on the silhouette a character makes seeing the way a orc thrashes up a hill compared to the way the elves should glide up and down them would make a big difference to me.
So vertical game play (climbing up ladders to get to content) no.
General climbing animations on steep terrain just makes sense. Use the EA money and pay animators to animate the piss out of this game. Look how it helped Team Fortress 2.
Mythic removed ladders from DAoC, at least from New Frontiers (RvR zones), so I don't see them going with ladders in WAR. From all the footage I've seen, there aren't any ladders, only ramps and stairs.

Dur, I'm picking a random game to look smart!
You do know this company has a past of including this stuff right? Like someone said, for Capital Siege, I would love to be able to run up a ladder and do some chaos while my buddies storm the gate, it adds whole new dynamics to RvR.

LOL because making higher areas accessable via ladder or stairs is liable to set the release date back several months......

Oh yeah, it's well known that ladders are tough to program.

Well they said crafting would be new and different and that it would all have a use in the WAR someone who could make ladders would be of use.

These are the kind of lame thought process' that make a bad game. Talk about lazy. Right climbing is going to stop us from having a Fun and Balanced game.
It's like when people talk about making simple Fluff additions and morons complain about that taking away from the Balance of the game. Hey, diffrent people can work on fluff alright, and it's not going to affect the damn Balance.

D*p S**ts.
Damn, I wanted to quote pooter26 and break down the flaws in his logic, but I think Lemures already summed it up quite nicely.
What I don't understand, is that you're trying to tell me the people who design filler content and fluff, arn't the same people who are working on the combat system and class balance? That doesn't make sense. I thought they all did everything. Couldn't they just take some people from the SFX department to work on the coding/animations of the ladder system?

I think it's more specialized than that. However, the animators crank out a climb animation and give it a short loop, the programmer attaches the animation to the surface and the conditions for climbing, the designers place the model in the world (somewhere there's a ladder model, either used or not). Shouldn't take long at all to implement.

why do you guys care about that stuff? thats not even important, you guys should care with the carrers and RvR related things.

Because that stuff hasn't been talked about at length...for years now.......
There have been several threads about all of the Careers and which ones are left, and all of the RvR crap you could possibly imagine but this is the very first climbing thread and personally, I find it extremely refreshing.
