View Full Version : Superfluous Titles

One thing that always intrigued me was some of the superfluous titles you could receive in other games. Pie Eating champion, or things like that. Specifically non-combat related titles. I wonder, what kind of titles would you like to see in WAR, and what would you have to do to receive the title?

Lady (or Lord) Luckless - For missing rolls on rare item drops X number of times in a row.

Somewhat combat relatedish, but I think it's more superflous and I'd like to see it since I'd probably be wearing it.

I think, atleast in terms of the the theme WAR is obviously pushing, many titles will seem superfluous in their very nature. For example, you're on the battlefield, war is everywhere, all of a sudden a comrade of yours shouts, "Great scotts! It's Borgash Squig Destroyer" - I doubt you'll be frozen in terror.

That said, I know exactly what you're getting at though, and I would love to see titles for crafting especially. Of course, the obligatory titles of progression (novice, artisan, master, etc) that implies your skill. I'd also like to see rewards for crafting various rare items. Like, naturally you may be a Blacksmith, but if you create X, Y, Z, and W rare hammers, you earn the title Hammersmith. That kind of stuff.

Maybe, a title for finding a ton of Christmas quests.

Or have a series of titles related to how many you find.

1st title - Brat
2nd title - Spoiled Brat
3rd - Brat, wot is spoiled rotten.
4th - Eric Cartman

Something like 'The Many Named'

This is ultimate, just had to post on the first Thread in the ToK Section.

An Ale Master fer us Dwarfs would do jus' fine thank'ee.

Were I a cursed Elgi in a bar far from home, and a man would scream: "Argh! It'd be Ale Master Thoradin, the Dwarf who was one hundred times victor of drinkin' contests withou' passin' out". Would I be frozen in terror? Yes I would! All Elgi would. (Thoradin is my roleplay character's name by the way).

'Beard-Betrayer' - Complete lots of quests for High Elves as a Dwarf.

That ain't funny. Any one with a title like tha' one should suffer a thousand deaths. If they put punishements of bonuses for titles, such a Dwarf should be bald and without a beard yet not a Slayer. And he should have only 1 health and... well you get the point.

From an in-character perspective, it's not meant to be the sort of title the Dwarf in question would be proud of having, but rather an insult thrown at him by more close-minded Dwarfs. Out of character, it would be fun to wear from time to time to get a rise out of people like you.

'The Hickman'

I too would love to see titles for completing the Christmas quests.

Perhaps they could take it one step further from Christmas quests and create certain points in the world (hopefully randomized so they are not just put up on a website) that give you titles. "The Vantage Seeker" for climbing 5 "peaks" that overlook battlefields. Or "The Cartographer" for exploring all the main areas of the map.

Aside from getting a title for being a part of sacking a main city (better be a good one) I would like to see certain titles for kill streaks. Imagine if you killed 25 people before you died. Or on the other end of the spectrum, killed 25 times before you killed someone?

Nightmare the Undieing!
Nightmare the Free Kill ;-)

Hrmmmm...

Hidden titles would be awesome too. Titles for doing things no one in their right mind would do. Like buying 5 stacks of ale and drinking them all or throwing themselves off of the highest peak in the game.

Nightmare the Town Drunkard
Nightmare the Suicidal

Titles are fun, I usually turn mine off after a while but that is only because none of them are ever very good.

Some of them annoy me, like in WoW the guy who opened the gates of Ahn Qiraj got the Scarab Lord title. Something not many can achieve, considering it was given to the ONE guy who rang the gong. If WoW had 300 servers, 300 people got the title. I mean, not only does he get a unique mount, fame and the experience...he gets the title to brag about it from days to come. Stuff like that irks me but I suppose it will always be there.

Titles are good motivations, and add replay at and before the cap.

City of Heroes had badges you would get that would bestow titles, and they were cool.

It's also an ability to give away little cool things that are limited, holiday, seasonal, and celebration times, and make you feel "l33t" for being in the game for a long time.

I want my Orc title to be "Da Git".

Good, until the last two. Y'see, while Journeyman might seem to imply a man who journeys. That is, at its core, semi-correct. Journeymen are actually craftsmen who have completed apprenticeship, and is working towards mastering the trade. Usually by travelling from town to town, and working for masters for a time, hence the name.

As for Forest Gump, that's just a weird name to be used in Warhammer context. Seeing as how they don't have movies. I don't like titles that make roleplayers uncomfortable. I also don't like titles that non-roleplayers won't be proud of, or won't get.

i do think, however...that some of these titles should be harder to get. killing 1000 of a particular race will probibly happen for a lot of people before they reach 40.

are the 'kill points' towards said title only open world rvr? scenarios count?

i love the ideas...i really do. i just think they should be harder to get. say....20,000 kills before 40. if it were 1000, everyone and their graming grandmother would have a title like that.

Depends also on the pace of the game and leveling speed.

Were this a Korean game, I'd say it'd be possible to hit a million kills by level 40 and still have millions to go before level cap.

Being a journeyman has nothing to do with travelling at all. It's from the French journée, meaning day, and originally referred to labourers and artisans who were payed by the day. Eventually it became synonymous with skilled but inexperienced workers. The more you know.

What is a Maibd?
The last thing you'll ever see.

For a Maibd maybe 'the Bloodied' and a Black Guard 'Dread Lord'.
Noo, for Witch Elves it should include "Khaine" in the title (like "Beloved of Khaine"... please, pretty, pretty please :o ). For Black Guards I think it should include "Malekith" (like "Malekith's Right Hand" or something along those lines). Though perhaps those are better as special, post-level 40 class specific quests or such.

Either way I would really want a "Beloved of Khaine" title.

To get more on topic for superfluous titles...

How about titles for distances walked (as opposed to run) without interruption? Like if you walk a long distance you could have something like "Pilgrim" or "Globetrotter". And similarly one could have titles for various uninterrupted distances you ran (with titles like "Marathoner" maybe).

What else... titles for period of time logged in without logging out? Particularly if it logs you out automatically if you don't do anything for a while. Now people can boast for having no life and playing for one continuous week without break. :p

Titles for number of people on your friends list, number of people on your ignore list and number of people who have you on their friends list? (Not for number of people who have you on their ignore list since we wouldn't want to encourage people to get themselves on other people's ignore lists. :p ) I particularly like some for how many people have you on their friends list since it's one you can only really get by making friends (though one might take care with how the friend system works since if inviting someone to your friends list also adds you to theirs would just make people spam friend invites).

Titles for number of different macros used (regularly)? "Code Monkey" ;)

Titles for number of private messages sent? Maybe with titles like "Gossiper".

And I would be very careful about adding titles which might influence the economy. One of the mistakes (IMHO) CoX made was giving badges for selling a number of items... which led to people selling loads of items for practically nothing (making a loss on the sale alone, let alone the value of the item sold) just to get the badges.

Don't underestimate how badly people will want these things... only add them for things you want to encourage players to do and only then if relentlessly trying to pursue them doesn't screw things up for other players playing the game 'normally'.

And I still want a "Beloved of Khaine" title. :p

Extremely simplistic or infinitely unrealistic. I'll let you figure out which of those goes in which category. Oh, and as yet another cuff in the ear;

One thing that always intrigued me was some of the superfluous titles you could receive in other games. Pie Eating champion, or things like that. Specifically non-combat related titles. I wonder, what kind of titles would you like to see in WAR, and what would you have to do to receive the title?

I was thinking about the titles and such and was thinking what about racial titles based on which characters you lvled.

For the Greenskins, you lvl each of the 4 classes up to lvl 40 and you gain the title Warboss.

For Chaos, you lvl each of teh 4 classes up to lvl 40 and get the title Chaos Lord.

For the Dark Elves, you lvl each of the 4 classes to lvl 40 and you get the title Malekith's Hand or something along those lines.

After gaining all three of those titles you finally in the end unlock Lord of Destruction.

Something similar could be done for order ....

Dwarfs, all 4 to lvl 40 being Strength of the Mountain or some such.

Humans, all to lvl 40 being Sigmar's Chosen or something.

The High Elves, all to lvl 40 being something apropriate like Rainbow Bright or something along those lines, :p All kidding aside something following the fluff could be found, I just hate elves.

After gaining all three titles you finally unlock Lord of Order.

Now, this is of course assuming by what we have seen that the ToK can not only trace accomplishments of the characters but the players as well as this would have to be done on several different servers and over and extended amount of time.

If you were able to gain both of the Lord titles you could get another representing your overall mastery of the game.

Warmaster or something along those lines.

Alt-tab out of the game more than 50 times: the Distracted, or the Attention-Impaired.

If there happens to be a /follow command, and you've accumulated more than 30 minutes of /follow time: the Follower (this one doesn't have to be clever)

Check your map 10 times within 5 minutes (or something similar): the Lost

Type the phrase "afk bio" more than 5 times in one hour: the Incontinent

Those were negative (easier to come up with those for non-combat) - now some positive ones:

Buff 50 people not in your group (don't count more than 3 per day): the Saint (maybe a bit grandiose).

After having performed at least 50 trades, with at least 75% of trades were only giving items, not receiving them: the Giver.

Obtains <some reasonably high amount of money> from other players in exchange for high-value items (if that's possible): the Merchant. Flimsy criteria, maybe there's a better way to measure it.

Vendors more than <some reasonable high amount of money> from vendor trash: the Salvager or the Scavenger

And a neutral one: Bank/storage area reaches 100% full state (with all purchasable extra slots bought): the Pack Rat.

Now, if only there were a way to award the title "the Reader of Quests" to someone that actually reads the quest text...

Maybe they could have a few random drop mini-quests that lead to silly titles. You'd loot a little scroll in PvE that has a request, clue or riddle on it. For instance, you'd get one that says "Wait at the hill overlooking the Dwarf camp at sundown." You do so, and a Chaos cultist spy shows up (you got the note off a PvE mob, after all!), you can kill him, turn him in or accept a small bribe from him to let him go. That gets you " Traitor's Bane, Civil Servant or Rotten Traitor."
