I keep thinking of the early battles during the release of DAOC... way back when...
Huge stand offs with epic numbers.. servers crashing the air filled with the stench of death. Thats what im looking forward to. Huge city stand offs that last for days.
Will there be check points in the city itself? Like Minor Generals to drop way before we get to the king. And hopfully different routes in, like via sewers or maybe the ability to dig under walls. Im not talking about a clone of DAOC keep sieges, but give us options so we can plan unique strategy.

I honestly would be surprised and depressed if City sieges weren't massive complex and strategic endevours. I hope they are DAoC keep/relic sieges X 10 + more, all of that on Super powered Steroids.

Yeah personally I would love to see just a mass of different ways to do it, when you hit certain points mini generals and leaders oppose you similar to raid bosses. Wil sieges be able to last for days though? I know they talked about a reset time after a city was sacked but does that go for the process of taking one too?

I hope so. That would have been so chaotic, strategic and most of all; Fun!

The campaign is the crux of the entire RvR system, making it the crux of the entire game. If it sucks, the game sucks. So obviously, the campaign will have to be pretty spectacular.
OF relic sieges were really hot, and those mechanics are 6 years old now. So I expect some hot city sieges.

I'm hoping city sieges will last like a week or something to really give it that epic battle feeling.

The main thing for me is the formation of a strategy. I just want to be able to plan these things out, knowing when to send in the rienforcements. When to send in a wave of Marauders and Black Orcs and send the Choppas to the right flank.
I know it wont be that in depth.. but damn, that would be great. Almost TTish.

I just want, more than anything, that instant when the last defence crumbles and our forces steam through into the capital and rampage to be AWESOME to be a part of. I'd like to see some degree of NPC invovlement too, one both sides, both fighting and fleeing. To add to the chaos.
But yeah, as someone said, this is the most impotant part of the game for me, and I really hope they can deliver.

I just hope theres piles of loot at the end. Nothing says a 'That was a good razing' like a pile o' loot.

pile of bodies > pile of loot
Or maybe at the end, theres just one huge massacred pile of bodies mixed in with loot. That would be seks.

Seems there likely will be some objectives to kill, control, or capture something because there's got to be some way to determine if a siege is succesful or not.
Since there doesn't appear to be siege weapons to blow holes through walls, I hope there will be multiple points to attack from. It will probably be popular to zerg the front gate, but a simple way to add strategy would be to allow players to also attack from a sewer entrance, underground cave/tunnel, river bank/canal, or maybe even an orcapult that lauches destruction players into the stables area just on the other side of the wall :o. I can't be the only one wanting to relive the WAR trailer. Would be kind of funny if the orcapult had a 5% chance to slam you into the wall too. :p
That way, if the defense isn't on their toes, the offense could swing around to another point and make a small advance.

Don't be so sure of that just yet. We've already seen plenty of evidence of seige equipment involved in quests and/or PQs through preview footage. I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least some of the city seige objectives involved the use of seige engines and such. Players or guilds certainly won't own the equipment per se, but that doesn't rule them out completely.

Well, there's got to be an interview somewhere where someone asked if there would be siege equipment. Has Mythic said anything about this, like yes, no, we'll consider it, can't say at this time, maybe in an expansion etc etc?

And when the last walls crumble, the remaining defenders turn, with nothing left to lose, and make a last desperate bloody stand... Of course, the defending orcs in eight peaks would be slaughtered by the attacking dwarves, but thats beside the point.
DAoC keep seiges were amazing, complete with siege weapons and destroyable walls. Im only hoping that the capitol city sieges are at least on par with the keep/relic raids, as has been said before, but im not getting my hopes up. Something just tells me that its not gonna be as good... im hoping to be pleasently surprised :D
Destroyable walls? Buildings? Siege weapons? NPCs that help you? DAYS OF KILLING!? God i hope so.
But im also hoping that the battles in lower stages are just as good.

I hope 500 Attacker NPCs come and 500 Defender NPCs come and battle at the gates of the city and you (thanks to collision detection) have to fight your way through.
-Edit would love to see some destroyable walls aswell, maybe have some slave giant or war hydra (for dark elfs) come and smash down a wall.

Sooner or later its definetly gonna turn up into a mass zerg of either order or destruction on 1 city or another with everyone just killing each other until inside. I would really want it to be as if your fighting a major boss in a raid or something maybe it will in the beginning but eventually its gonna be a zerg.
Yea theres definetly gonna be npc's helping both attacker and defender from water and siege from land if i remember awhile ago.

I hope that cities are large enough to have massive battles with +200 people.
Also multi zoned so server could keep it up and lag stays in reasonable levels. But doesnt have loading screens or instances.
No Scenarios or any Instanced stuff... dont want people to flee in those when battle really gets to slaughter.
Of course safe zones should be in (grave yard including) to enemy cather their force for counter attacks.

THey said that there WILL be siege equipment... but not controled by players :)..so i wouldn't worry about it much. :)
