Is there a replacement for MS Trackball Optical?

I hate mice devices.

I have exclusively used the MS Trackball optical -- http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/product.aspx?view=22&pcid=10426173-9aba-45eb-b7ce-af9ef9724d3d&type=ovr --.

I like the thumb ball, and the 5 buttons. MS has dicontinued this, and while I can find stock, I am curious if anyone has found something like this, but more current?

Or are thumb trackball devices a dead design?
