Browsing through the Knight forums, I found that Runefang, Press the Attack, and Emperor's Champion all stacked. As far as I knew, you always got one passive ability (tactic) and a buff to stack after the stacking changes. In any given situation, this is what prevented absurdly large numbers (like stacked Press the Attack) from popping up over various people in stat categories. The three do stack (tactic + ability + morale) which made me curious, so I did some testing.
I got my friend (a Rune Priest) to help me out and had him slot Regenerative Shielding (http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=1622). He cast regen on me until it procced and then I immediately used Perseverance. The two abilities stacked, putting my armor somewhere in the 111% absorption. This seemed par the course so far, as it was a proc tactic and an ability. I would've tested Mountain Spirit (http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=1644), but I couldn't at the time (he didn't have it yet). I then went on my Swordmaster and activated Aethyric Armor (http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=9033). Unsurprisingly, that armor buff and Regenerative Shielding did NOT stack. The highest, Regenerative Shielding, overrides the armor buff.
Strange, that those two didn't stack but Perseverance did. I then slotted Rugged, pulled out Nature's Blade (http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=9009) and attacked mobs until I stole Toughness. Once that was done, I used Guard of Steel (http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=9056) and checked the stacking. Surprisingly, all three stacked fully, giving me somewhere around 400+ toughness out of spec.
What does this mean? There's a stacking bug somewhere in this mess. Runefang and Emperor's Champion are core, meaning they'll scale to their full amount (240) and stack. Rune of Power replaced the Press the Attack bonus since it was larger, but still stacked with Runefang. Perseverance and Regenerative Shielding stack, but Aethyric Armor and RS do not. From what my friend tells me, Mountain Spirit does NOT stack with Regenerative Shielding, nor does Prayer of Absolution. Lastly, passive stats + active buffs + morales DO stack (Rugged + Nature's Theft + Guard of Steel).
If Guarded Attack and Regenerative Shielding could stack (Aethyric Armor/Prayer of Absolution are pretty much permanent, which I could guess is why it doesn't stack), that means the bug lies in the Aethyric Armor/Prayer of Absolution not stacking. If Guarded Attack and Regenrative Shielding do NOT stack, the bug itself lies in Knight abilities stacking (at least Perseverance). Granted that Rugged was able to stack with Nature's Theft and Guard of Steel, but Rugged is a passive tactic and Runefang is a proc.
There is something very strange here and I'll try and do more testing to figure out what is going on. As food for thought, this means that it is potentially possible to stack Ancestral Inheritance (which DOES stack with Regenerative Shielding), Regenerative Shielding, Guarded Attack, and Mountain Spirit to gain some absolutely absurd armor. On a dwarf.
The real question at hand is whether or not this is intended or there's a bug somewhere in the mix. Some things can be replicated across factions, but what is the final say on stacking? Is it even consistent across abilities?
