White Lions seem to be pretty much a sure thing, so...

Based on the lore, all White Lions must go and kill an actual lion on the plains and claim one of its cubs to raise. Should this be an in game quest? as in you start with no lion, train, go out and kill the lion, and then start raising the cub, which gets more powerful as you level up. Or should you start out with a full grown lion as your pet? /discuss

If I ever played as a White Lion then I'd want it to progress as I progress, rather than it already being fully grown. Teaching and equipping the lion would be one of the fun aspects of that class, and also promote braggin' rights for having the most badass looking one.

Although that'd be nice, I guess that given they go with the whole "part of the elite soldiers of your army"-approach, you won't get to play as a fresh recruit who is just starting out with his Lion ;)

I wouldn't mind what you suggest, or some kind of variation of it.

Though perhaps we might have a slight problem (already pointed out) in the fact that we're probably already going to have our cloaks.

Still, that new Career Mastery mechanic could make it possible to do something like this (or not, depending on your preference).

i doubt you will have to do a quest, although it would be cool, but your lion will probably get bigger and strong looking like your character will as you progress.

There's nothing to say you have to get your White Lion pelt and pet in the same trip. Over the centuries, even millenia, living in Chrace a White Lion is likely to kill more than one of the beasts. In fact hunting the dangerous creatures to protect Elven settlements would seem like a standard job for elite Chracian infantry. I'd guess a developing lion is likely; character development is always popular, and inkeeping with the what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach to characters, logically you should be able to tell from looking whether the lion's going to shred you or not. I'd guess the quest would be not to go out and capture one, but to go and hunt a marauding adult terrorising the area. You'd track it to its lair, kill it and acquire its young cub in the process. I seriously hope we don't have to feed em though; I don't want to have to take time away from the war to hunt boars for it. Unless it eats druchiisteak; that'd be ok.

Forgive me I'm not 100% sure of the lore on the White Lion but I think it'd be awesome to get the pelt as epic armor for your final quest in the Tome or something. That lion head on the shoulder looks awesome.

No way, the pelt is a VERY iconic part of the White Lions. We might not start with it, but we SHOULD get it early :p.

If you don't start with it, it would have to be your VERY FIRST QUEST (or else!) I mean, a White Lion without his cloak is just some elf with an axe. An can you imagine how crap they'd look on the character selection screen? It'd be like Swordmasters starting with a wooden club. Or a magus starting without his disc...:p

Even if I won´t be playing a white lion, class quests are always great since they connect you to the world and often enough reveal huge parts of lore.

So I hope and pray that you get an early quest to get your cloak and cub, which grows as you move up through the tiers, becoming fiercer, stronger and bigger.

Didn't Mythic say they'd be no class only quests?

Anyway, I think you should at it at the end of tier 1, after all, if when you start off is meant to be fairly easy, i'd just be:

Quest Giver: "Hello, go into that small (Very small) wood and kill a White Lion, your only level 1 so it'd only take 1 or 2 hits.

Oh OK.

I was wondering where you'd gotten them from.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Mythic will make all White Lion cloaks essentially the skin but with slightly different looks, so it appears that you're still wearing the same skin, but that it becomes more and more of a real cape as time goes on. As for the pet...well, I don't know where they'll go with that, as they've said they don't want class-specific quests. My guess there is that they will bend it for finding the pet and getting your starting cloak, or they'll just tell you up front what happens and you just start with them.

I wouldn't mind if there wasn't a specfic quest to obtain the Lion, but I would want it to be young and untrained. It should be part of any pet class to have the pet grow and progress with the master.

For it to be a fully grown Lion would be pretty disappointing, but I doubt it will be. It should be like one of the visual features of the class, eg. when the Dwarf beard grows and the Black Orc gets larger, etc.

I think that in character creation you will b e able to pick from a few ways your cloak will look and sit on you.

all i know is i want the lion head to sit on my shoulder like a shoulder pad.

If Witch Hunters have to earn their hats then the White Lion should have to earn their pet as well! Should definitely be an early quest though, < 10th lvl

Why not start with a cub that levels with you to a full grown lion?

Tallak

I don't see a cub being very effective in battle...It'd have to grow fast, methinks.

From all that I've viewed and read there are no references to career specific quests.

This, I think, is a shame as it's an excellent tool to really connect a player with his career while drawing on the lore and the writer's creativity to really define through gameplay what that career is all about. A Lion Warrior's quest to gain his cloak or perhaps obtaining/rescuing a young lion is an excellent example of this. The Lion pet itself (assuming this is truth) is a pretty stout advantage and perhaps wouldn't even be gained until around Tier 3.

I think each career should have a solo quest (perhaps even treated as an instance to avoid help/interference) given in each tier. I've been giving a good deal of thought to examples and will post something later in a general thread in more detail.

Since this will be the pet class for order i believe it should grow with you. should be similar to the squig herder, which i intend to play. only fair if both pet archetypes get similar pet progression.:-D

Hence why I believe that the lion will indeed grow more powerful as you rank up. Else it would be overpowered early on and underpowered later.

Just thought I'd clarify a few things about lions. (Its fantasy though so may not mirror reality) I see a few problems with said quest.

1. EA Mythic has said there won't be any class specific quest.

2. A lioness doesn't have a mane.

3. You are told to go out and kill a lion not a lioness.

4. A lioness usually doesn't have just one cub.

5. A Lion usually doesn't hunt but stays with the pride as do said cubs.

6. A full grown Lion I don't think can be tamed.

But I am sure mythic will find a way around all that.

A lion/s protects the "family" and maintains the borders of the "family", protects it from danger
Fights of anything that threatens them, you could call them real men

I just hope there is some mechanic to make each White Lion pet look different from another's. I guess that wouldn't make too much sense as far as lore goes, but for the game I think its best.

This made me giggle ferociously. I seriously hope you meant to say loin. The part I found especially funny was longer hair and fangs.

Just a note to the clip I posted; The first male lion who kills the hyena is nicknamed "He who greets with fire aka hyena killer" 'cause he attacks immediatelly if he sees one, and the second is he's brother
They together maintain and protect that pride
It's from a documentary called ; Eternal enemies : Lions and hyenas

If you do have to kill a lion then get its cub and raise it....

.....Then I'd like it if when you first create your character and in the beginning you start your quest to kill the lion and get its cub. Then it would level up with you.

Also if they were to make it so you could equip things onto your lion..lets say armor.

Then I will probably end up switching my main from a Shadow Warrior....to a White Lion.

lol

it would be really cool to do a quest to get your lion and equip it with visual armor. would make the lion really apart of the class instead of an exotic mechanic to make the class unique.

and you should be able to change the look of your lion like your character in class creation

Didn't notice if someone already said this, but how about equipping your pet with trophies, in addition to armor, etc.

they should put the quest in at lvl 1, you must go and kill a lonely lioness and get her 3 cubs, then go back to the person who gave the quest, he takes 2 of the cubs from you for a lion chariot, he then says: hey you can keep this lion, you could tame it if you want.. then you can choose how he looks and if it's a male or female, then you carry it with you for a couple of lvls, then it gets too big and has to walk beside you, then after a while you could command it to attack the enemie and so on, and it would be fully grown at lvl 40 ofcourse, then you should be able to get some cool (purely visual?) armor for it, give it a haircut, paint him pink............... lol
