View Full Version : Why did you choose a Shaman?

Just wondering what caught your eye when you saw/read about the Shaman career. And how does it fit you and your playstyle.

Small size (hide in the bushes).

The guild is going Destruction.

I tend to play a healer (hybrid) in most games.

I hate elves.

I really like the Waaagh! mechanic. The idea of heals being more effective after damage encourages me to actually do some DPS, which is what I found boring about my Priest. I feel that I really do enjoy playing a Healer, but I want a healer that is at least able to hold their own. If all I can do 1v1 is keep myself alive a little longer by throwing out annoying heals, then what's the point. If someone is beating on me, I want to be able to hold my own with some DPS.

The fact that the class is a Goblin also makes it all the more appealing. I love the Goblins in this game.

A few reasons:

1: "Fun" - as much as it limits how potentially high I could min-max, I'm never the guy who takes "blacksmithing" - hundreds upon hundreds of gold and hours of work, but the most powerful stuff in the end. I'm the "engineering" guy - nothing game-breaking, ro will fetch the highest sale price, but is fun, hilarious, and brings a smile to my face. If I wanted to be the biggest, most defensive powerhouse healer, I'd have went runepriest. Instead I'm going Shaman, because he looks cool, has a cool mechanic, is part of my favorite army, and looks a lot more versatile and fun than the runepriest, who I'm sure I'll wish I rolled when I face one.

2: "Look" - Odd as this might sound, I've always wanted to play a small race who's gear was tailored to them. By "tailored", I don't mean "scaled down until a sword looks like a toy dagger in his hands". I mean a hood, pauldrons, and robe that look like it was created specifically to be on this 2-foot tall goblin, and a staff that's bigger than he is and he walks with like it's a cane.

3: "Role" - I've always played some sort of healer in games, it's my favorite role. "Nobody likes seeing health bars go up compared to owning dudes". I do, I love seeing health bars go up as people are trying to kill my partners.

Shaman

-Has terrain advantages due to size

-Is underestimated

-Support=like to play

-WAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had an oustanding urge to play a support class and stick with it for longest time in any MMO. I usually find myself annoyed by Mana or something by about the mid-levels. So that drew me to a Support Class.

My friends then chose Destruction as the side to play as, and I agreed.

That led me to the Shaman simply becuase it looked like a lot of fun. The Zealot of course was interesting but the Shaman and it's Waaagh! mechanic just made me literally jump out of my seat and shout for joy. The small goblin caster which literally glows with green energy is just awesome from my perspective. A combination of Gameplay desire, Graphic desire, and Archetype desire are what drew me to a Shaman.

After actually getting to play a Shaman at Gamesday, I was only boosted in my enthusiasm for the class and can't wait to play one at launch.

I like the fact you are not just a healer but have some great buffs/debuffs to help the fight as well as dps to compliment your healing. There is no fun in just healing people and forgoing any solo content - I also think a shamen just healing will be a negative asset as opposed to one using all his abilities and that appeals.

I know other classes also have similar mechanics but the thing that tipped the balance ws seeing the casting animations - they looked really good and the Goblin himself looked spot on.

Wanted to play a healer and just reading about the shaman I knew it was for me! Support/DPS/Heals the class overall seems great fun to play. Also, come on, goblins kick .

1. Mork's cool

2. Allows me to be a spellcaster, while still being able to yell WAAGH!

3. I like healing (except in excess)

Had to be a class on destruction, healer preferrably, and had to fit my name.

Also, its a goblin. I'm gonna ride a boar around. How awesome is that?

Pretty freaking awesome as long as the animation doesn't suck. I was so psyched to get a wolf mount in WoW and then I found out that it was the wolf animation that looks like it got shot in the butt. Animals don't move like that unless they're wounded.

I chose shaman because I like casters, I like support characters that are fun to play, and I like being the little savage guy. Ratlings, goblins, kobolds, all neat races to me. Gnomes are just lame (hence the savage component). I'm hesitant about WAAAGH though. If it means that I can't go fully support when my mates are really getting their teeth kicked in, I may end up with a zealot or whatever abomination that the dark elves wind up with.

1. I simply like being the healer guy, although its me that is always responsible for my teams health. And its awesome to see my teams health go up and realize that without me, my "boy" orcs would have failed however furious their frenzy was.

2. The abilities... The abilities and mechanics looks awesome! The whole Whaag! concept is totally awesome. the Eek! ability. They are numerous.

3. The roleplay. To play the wicked one in the camp, who deals out curses and tremors. The wise man of the village, who deals with the less smart orcs and has the snotlings as servants:D...

The Shaman is just cool:)

I'm gonna agree with the the guy above me.indeed, the name fits the class in that the shaman is the "wise man" of a nomadic community.

Although I have met many who would see Sage as more of a Wizard kind of name, I prefer healing. If I were to be with friend who were going order, I would be Archmage Sage.

Though they are all going destruction :)

So shaman, I like :)

also, goblins are quite goofy, and this is another reason I have chosen the shaman!

idk usually i play melee classes but ever since the druid in WoW (yes i know) ive really enjoyed hybrid healers. although this is a caster, i think the way they had it set up looks really nice. this is honestly the only destruction class that appeals to me. the rest are on The Order (Witch Hunter, Engineer, Warrior Priest).

They arn't all about heals though they got some pretty damn cool offensive WAGGH spells like the fists punching the ground is tight also i think the support will be deacent offensive wise but i also think they will have to heal too so yeah i like being able to do dmg help allies and live a long time with my awsome heals

PS. i have no clue what class im going yet

Shaman are the brains and true leadership of the Orcs, Waaagh!

Also Shaman give a whole new meaning to the term "pocket healer" as we can litterally fit in the pocket of the average Black orc or Choppa.

I decided to play a Goblin shaman after playing with one in TT. We played one demo game between me and a buddy and my little Goblin Shaman stomped him with the foot of Gork turning his entire army into pulp. Was hilarious... so when I saw Gobbo shamans on here, I yelled out in joy exclaiming THATS THE CLASS FOR ME! :D

And Orcs & Gobbos are my favorite race, blah blah the usual stuff

I agree totally, the names of some of their skills are great. Healing people with "Gork'll Fix it" is so much better than Lesser Heal or some other generic name.

I usually play dwarf priests on most mmorpgs I play but I don't want to play Order so this is the basically the equivalent.

Also, anyone that has pvped a lot in any mmo knows that heals, properly place and well timed, can often make or break which side wins a battle.

LOL, QFT!

Shaman is really appealing to me because:

1. Never really felt that a healing class had any DPS potential in PVP. I like healing, but not all the time, and I don't like being sword fodder.

2. Something about greenskins really appeals to me, I'll prolly be taking shots each time I log in, hehe.

3. Devious looking little scoundrels.

I probably wont play a shaman as a main... but it depends on how the game will be.

I chose shaman not because it's a support class, but i dont mind supporting a team and when i play a hybrid in other MMOs i m always willing to heal in case no-one else can and do a pretty good job.

But i mostly chose shamans for bursting stunty headz. That's the coolest spell/ability ever... making people's heads explode.

Other known abilities are quite nice too.

Kind of the same. Because of the lack of trust in pvp healers, I'd like to roll class that has healing abilities as well as some dps to kill stuff. Also by playing a healer pve vise, I have the delusion of grandeur, and can upon that and my god syndrome, deciding who shallt live and who can suck it. :P I played a shammy in wow since BC, and didnt find the totem system appealing, only the fact that it was a shaman. I think shamans are down to spirits, not elements but spirits who represent the elements and could be enlisted in one or another archetype. I hope these goblin shamans will be full of voodoo-like stuff with lots of animal and enemy bits stuck on their clothes. Also, I'd like to get a little red pouch like this one (http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/images/careers/GShaman03.jpg), might make one for real. :D

I, more than probably, will roll a Chosen as well, since that was my initial class of choice, but since there will be no raiding in scales such as in wow (which i do not know to if I dislike, honestly :D) I do not want to be the defensive type.

2. Hate Elves
3. No pure DPS class (I want to be wanted)
4. Friend is playing chosen.
5. Liked Shaman most out of the 3 remaining choices.
EDIT: 6. WAAAGH!
EDIT: I like being self sufficient.

I sure hope so. I love being a pain to my enemies. (In fighting games, I only like chars with spammable projectiles)

I am choosing the Shaman as my main because it fits in well with my past gaming experiences. From Shadowbane, FFXI, Vanguard, WoW, among others, it resembles most of the careers/classes/jobs I enjoy playing. I like classes with utility and I love being under fire as a healer in PvP, I love that challenge.

Goblins were always my favorites.

-I was really disappointed when I found out that you can't play as a goblin in WoW.

-I've always been on the 'good' side. Time for some changes. I'll be an ugly, annoying pain in the behind.

-The thought of PVP healing always attracted me, but not being able to do anything besides healing kind of made me not doing that. The WAR shaman changed my view on this, having the awesome hurt-to-heal system.

Well. I dont really know why i choose a shaman. Maybe its cus im not the "good looking armor" guy if you know what i mean :p I dont care about the looks at all.

And well, the shaman is ugly as hell if you ask me :)

I always liked the small races and when i started to read some on the shaman i got amazed, it sounded like the perfect class for me. I mean, you have to do damage before healing, i always loved being a healer but i also always missed doing DPS.. So shaman is perfect for me :D

Imagine your friend getting injured.. His leg is broken really badly, and unless he gets help soon, he's going to die of blood loss. You're stuck in some woods, as you were out "adventuring" or "digging" or whatever you want to call it. You're trying to get help, but you're really in a tight spot and can't find any.
Except a Goblin Shaman.

You hand your friend over to the goblin, who says it's going to cure him. As he starts doing his weird magics, thoughts keep coming to your head, pretty much in this order:
1. Does the goblin actually have any idea what he's doing?
2. Assumingly the goblin's actually aware of what's going on, is it trying to help, or is it just killing my friend as slowly and painfully as possible?
3. Even if the goblin is actually trying to help my friend, what are the odds of it working?
4. If by some freak accident the treatment actually works, what sort of side effects will it have?
5. How do I know it's friends won't jump out and make a meal out of me the second I turn away?
6. How do I know the shaman isn't going to do that?
7. How is it possible I couldn't find anyone else to help?
8. If I walk away out of this, alone or with my friend, I'm sure as hell NEVER coming back.

That's why I like the shaman.
Also: green is best, elves smell funny, WAAAGH!, healer=good.
