just a tiny question as i couldn't find it anywhere.
when damage from one hit gets mitigated and absorbed, which happens first ?
eg..
is mitigated% = mitigated damage / (damage done + mitigated damage)
or is mitigated% = mitigated damage / (damage done + mitigated damage + absorbed damage)
i'm sure this is an easy one, just lazy atm, please forgive. ;)
Mitigation occurs before damage is absorbed by shielding spells and abilities. They were absorbing before mitigation for a while but that was confirmed by Mythic to be a bug.
It goes: block/parry/disrupt/dodge? -> damage reduction from Toughness -> damage reduction from mitigation -> add crit damage if it crit -> subtract damage absorbed by shield

I dont know how it is currently, but I do know 1.1 borked it. There was a change that allowed critical damage to be included in healing from damage -> healing abilites. With this came a few side effects. Before we got healing from damage that was absorbed from shields, no longer. I've also heard reports that damage was absorbed before migited from this change as well.

How it works now afaik:
1. Absorb shields
2. Toughness
3. Resistances (including armour)
Only unknown which could be worked out with a bit of testing is where "damage reduced by xxx %" factors into it. My gut feeling says after resistances as it specifically states "damage taken" (and "damage taken" is what gets removed from your hitpoints after 1/2/3) but I'm not 100% sure.
Critical hit damage now gets fully mitigated by resistances and indirectly through toughness (crit hit damage % increase is factored by the ability's damage, which is reduced by toughness).
Before 1.1, the above order was 2/3/1 which means absorb shields were much better (and didn't get wiped out with 2 good hits).

unfortunately, looking at the combat log, i just don't see any way of finding out how toughness affected the damage outcome..
resistances & absorption seem to be the only two things that can be found out in this way.
has been covered in the grab-bag now aswell.
thanks
