View Full Version : ToK and recording Kill Results

The Tome will record soooo much information and I love the idea of it all. Should it also keep track of how many times you've killed other players and how many times they've killed you?
It was mentioned that the number of X beasts you've killed will be recorded, so I don't think it would take much to implement a kill tracking system between players.
Some of the impact of tracking such results are:
-Competetive rivalries where two arch enemies will seek each other out in battles in the hope to take the better victory record.
-You'll see some peoples names popping up more often than others and they will gain some reknown because of it.
-You'll know which foes have been killing you more and then be able to adjust your tactics to improve your record. (Of course a combat log will tell you who killed you as well)
-It could give further Tome unlocks such as giving you the tittle of "Squig Slayer" Or "antimagus" or something like that...
-Keeping the record sortable so that you can also see how your class killing breaks down. Do you have a better record vs. Black Orcs or another class?

I'd be suprised if they didn't add how many people you have killed at least.
I had over 8000 open world pvp kills in WoW (before any god damned BG crap) and too many statistics involving such a large number would be confusing.
However, having a top 10 of the people you've killed most/been killed by the most would be sweet. Would keep the rivalry up.

tbh I have no idea whatsoever how much resources this would require, but from the top of my head I wouldnt image the tome tracking these things from the combat log for example would be that much of a burden, so if its indeed doable then hell yeah it'd be nice.
the only negative I can think of, aside from technical issues, is that if you really suck at PvP this might make you feel even worse :-D ... but surely atleast no one from this site would be so lousy

heh I love the idea. The thought of competitive rivalries and knowing my opponents is one that excites me.

Nm .
NDA? At least I know what you said...
Do you mean track enemies' names, or track enemies killed? I guarantee you the latter, couldn't care less about the former.

Better keep track of lots of stats then, such as amount of heals you've given or times you've saved a buddy from dieing.
Promoting kill list just encourages people to go for kills during pvp not helping the overall RvR element. People are going to start going 'omg i'm so much better than you I have more kills hahahahaha' and all the healer/buffers/debuffers whatever are going to get pissed and not play their class appropriately. Certainly not all, but you have to remember to cater to the 'general public' mindset.

I have gotten used to eves killboards. i want the tome of knowledge to chronicle my path of destruction. names, places, levels, equipment and stuff.

Deffinatly want a kill record.. Wouldn't mind Kill/Death and some even more detailed records of killings. Like how many people you've killed in under 5 seconds or something. The most crit hits you've landed on one person. Etc...

Being in the group that made the kill could add the kill to your list and then reflect the support contribution. I never liked the system of "Only the killing blow counts" since that is just a mechanic of timing and not that of contribution.
But on the note of recording lots of stats... Mods do so for players in other games... I know it's client side and not feasable on a server side basis, but a compromise between the two extremes could be managable.
I agree, that kill lists are unfair to support classes.

I think the tome will do all of that, they have said that the tome is very very expansive, and it's pretty much telling your character's story, so why wouldn't it track your enemies names and killing stats etc?

Because of the scope of it after pvping all day every day for a year, then doing it for every player in the game. It would be a lot of overhead. I hope they do it, but I'm expecting a top 50 list or something of that scale.

It will probably be like DAoC.

Here is hoping there something like a Kill on Sight list built in there.
Granted Everything I run across is going to be KoS. But I would like to put a select few on some sort of a list so I can go above and beyond out of my way to kill them off.

im going to presume kills are tracked by proximity to the death/assist and not killing blow?

Did they give any indication on how that would be displayed? Will it be something in your ToK, or something when you target the Player (you have a 10% victory rate against Kilrogg)?

That's good to know! I didn't hear that question asked in the two videos I watched of the question period, but now I know. Does it also list who has killed you or other stats as mentioned by people in this thread?

It tracks proximity kills (fixed into your Number of Kills), death blows, and solo kills on that site. Number of kills consist of assisted kills or kills done by your group without you hitting the guy personally. It also lists any death blows or solo kills you did below your Number of Kills. Hope that answers your question.

yea i figured they were proximity kills after looking abit harder.
Yes, Track player kill records.
Would be definately interesting to see how many PvP kills another player has.

i think logging kills is a good idea. but take it a step further.
track how many of each race you kill.

We asked that specific question back in August at the fansite event. It's going to be fun reading through the hundres of ToK pages to see the names of the thousands and thousands of different players you've killed after playing for a year or so.

I'm pretty sure they're taking it to this step, considering they're able to keep track of every single monster you kill.

sounds like a great idea, the only problem is i had over 100k kills. how would it filter out the kills i cared about, instead of the zerglings i killed the most of.
if i could store solid information of my pvp i would want it to keep record of my greatest victories. once i got zerged by a group of opposition, i got back to my body, waiting till they bite off more then they could chew, then ran in and finished the group off. i spent the next hour res camping their entire group (all + or - 3 levels from me). how would it accuratly decide this is a great battle, and save that information for me?
i can't think of any way.
