View Full Version : Pqs and Zone Locks.

So on my server there are many people who think PQs are only good for VP up to the first (enemy's cap point) notch on the VP bar.

Basically these people suggest that unless you grind the PQs before you cap the BOs, there is no point doing them, and so call off lock attempts the minute someone caps an objective if the VP hasn't climbed to a certain lvl.

So I wanted to ask some of the people who have been trying to analyze the zone locking mechanics to see if this is true.

The most basic question is, if we were at say 80 (or more importantly 95 or so since it often locks at 97) VP from Open RvR and BO capping, could we grind PQs (assuming we had enough people to get lots of them done at once) to increase our VP and lock the zone?

Also is there a cap on how much VP you can earn from PQs, besides the obvious fact that some would decay if not done quick enough?

Disclaimer: I'm believing in the system I'm talking about. It is hard to prove though. I might be wrong in the end.

PQ gives about 1VP for each PQ being completed in recent past.

For example, we have 9 PQ in the zone. A, B, C, D etc. If you complete PQ A once, you earn 1 VP for your side. If you complete PQ B after that, you earn 1 more VP. If you complete all 9 PQ, you earn 9 VP in total.
If you do PQ A two times, you get only 1 VP for the first PQ run, and 0 VPs for second... So you should do different PQs.

VPs accumulated for PQ completition will decay in 2-6 hours (I don't know the exact value, but old competition zones sometimes give you VPs for PQ and sometimes they don't).

Practice
My guild has locked zones doing PQ at last stages. We had about 64 VP in zone (out of 66 for lock) and gone to run through few PQ. Zone was locked...

Personally, I have never seen completion of a PQ score VP, whether in doing them for their own sake, as part of an organised campaign, or soloing low level ones for test purposes. Either the contribution is very low (multiple PQs per VP) or, more likely, the PvE pool is capped low enough that during normal play hours, it will pretty much always be full already, if only from people handing in 'kill 25' and scenario quests.

Well in the other zone lock thread someone said it was about 5 pqs for 1 VP, though it seems they since edited it.

At least I have one poster that has given an example of using them to lock when already very close.

Still, some more testing is needed, hoping for some more posts that can confirm it doesn't matter when you do it. Even if there is a cap on how much PvE can contribute then it would seem you can always gain some VP from PQs as long as the cap isn't reached.

I can't really see the cap being so low that the odd person handing in a quest or 2 would really fill it. I believe they made it so you need more PvE to gain a benefit (meaning co-ordinated and conscious effort is needed), and increased the amount you get from BOs and scens to compensate.
